There are so many extreme prog metal bands that sound similar, how can i stand out?

Don't listen to any of them!

Hi Francesco, have you ever thought about doing a massive collab with all of your Internet guitar friends? :) One person makes a long backing track, and everyone does a 30 second solo or something. That would be amazing :D

It exists already, and I'm part of it along with TONS of mind blowing musicians. It's called Soul Cycle II and you can listen to it here: http://soulcyclemetal.bandcamp.com/album/soul-cycle-ii

Maybe this is a hard question to think about...but do you have any regrets regarding your music or life in general? Is there anything you wish you did sooner, or anything you wish you didn't do at all?

Life isn't perfect and things don't always go as planned, I have many regrets and surely I could have done some stuff that I haven't and viceversa. But I'm here, slowly but steadily getting where I want, and if there are issues, I work around them and get the most out of my life anyways.

Who are your favorite female musicians?

Hiromi Uehara, Joanna Newsom, and I really like Lana Del Rey

What camera do you use to film? A video camera or just a high quality digital camera? What program do you edit the clips?

It depends on the video, but when you see high quality stuff it's usually my Canon EOS 550D (Rebel T2i), I actually just sold it to purchase a 6D. I edit clips with FCPX.

Do you have any copyright strikes on your account yet? :(

You mean on my youtube account? On a couple cover videos, yes. Doesn't bother me that much as long as computers everywhere can watch the vid. When copyright acts, it usually makes the content not available for mobile devices only (which is nonsense imho). Mobile devices are a part of the audience but not a big one, so no biggie to me.

Hi Francesco, I want to start record guitar but which software should I choose ? I know somebody already asked you recently, but why I should use that software ? Why other people choose not Ableton, but Logic Pro or Pro Tools or Cubase ?( i have mac) Thank you so much for your response.

It entirely depends on tastes, if I could return from scratch I'd choose to learn and use Pro Tools since it's the standard in audio recordings, but I'm used to use Ableton and it does the job just fine. Same for Logic, Cubase etc.
No DAW software sounds better than the other, they just have different graphic interfaces and offer something slightly different in terms of "shaping tools". They all get the job done.
Like I said, I use Ableton since I started as an electronic musician and it's suited for that, although I can do anything with it just fine and it's very simple to use. I also tried the new Logic Pro X and find it much better than the previous version, so in the end up to you!

Any modern ibanez models youre interested in? Any you would actually buy? (aside from the bubinga 8)

The incoming acoustic 7, nothing else that I can think of.

I have an ibanez with an ugly dry rosewood fretboard...have you ever used a fretboard stainer to darken a fretboard? Have any friends you know of done it?

Sub-par rosewood is pretty common in cheap Ibbies. If you want to stain it, do it! Lots of people do

Do you still listen to electronic music or has it taken a back seat these days?

I still listen to it but not as much as years ago unfortunately, I'd love to be "back in business" in that field tbh!

Do you use lemon oil or something else to lightly oil your fretboard?

Yes, it's pretty common to do so

does the grain of rosewood ever bother you? the pores are a lot more noticeable than ebony or maple

No it doesn't bother me

Would you buy 20 pairs of the same sock so you never have any more unpaired socks?

Why have I never thought of this? Problem solved forever, thanks buddy!

What are the best looking pickups, sound aside? (weird question I know)

KxK, Thorn and Vik make beautiful wood-topped bobbins to match their instruments' woods.

When you shoot video with many angles, do you have multiple cameras or do you do multiple playthroughs for each angle?

I do multiple playthroughs, although for example for our drummer's covers I had to borrow several cameras to film him at the same time otherwise he had to repeat the same tiring songs over and over.

If you're getting a Carvin neck-thru 6 string, and you don't want maple to play a big part of the body wood, what would you choose? All koa, all mahogany or all walnut? Regarding your own playing style btw

All of them can work! I would personally choose koa with maple or walnut fillets

um hi Francesco, I want to record guitar for the first time and I'm new :) I have a Line 6 Pod GX, what software do you recommend? something that's easy to use. thanks in advance! :)

Garage Band (if you're on Mac) or Ableton (PC or Mac) are both pretty simple I think

Hi Francesco ! I'll soon have a Jackson DKA7 (Alder body, maple neck and fretboard), and was wondering if the D-Activators could give me the à la Petrucci lead sound that I'm after, but also a really jazzy neck pickup sound (think Joe Pass/Pat Metheny). If not, what are your ideas ? Thanks man !

I'm of the opinion that almost every pickup can do the sound you want if you tweak your gear accordingly, but anyway: I generally prefer BKPs, don't like D-Activator 6 and 7 that much if at all, and definitely there are better pickups for jazz or leads.

Talking about the duncan mayones contest, what is your guitar on that video, with that semi purple pickguard and headstock + shark inlays ?

Pickguard is black, it's just the room's lighting being purple :) it's a '89 RG750WH, you can watch another (amazing) video of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t6QAKd1s96sFrancescoFiligoi’s Video 56202128212 t6QAKd1s96sFrancescoFiligoi’s Video 56202128212 t6QAKd1s96s
