Pups for carvin sc90 mah/maple neckthrough, swamp ash wings,q.maple top, ebony fretboard. In the style of Periphery,Polyphia,Fusiony stuff like Tom Quayle,Intervals,Jason Richardson, etc. I want to have a modern progressive rhythm tone with the ability to have some sick Abiogenesis and fusion lead tones

Juggernaut set is definitely your choice man!

nailbomb is more tight and agressive than juggs?

It is equally tight, I think it's more aggressive yes

What's your favorite pickup set/combination for 7 string guitar?

BKP ceramic Nailbomb bridge, VH2 neck. This if the guitar is on the warmer side of things.

I'm wanting to play songs that were recorded on a 6 in AADGBe. Am I right in thinking to get this to sound good on a 7 string, using ADADGBe would be the right way to go about it.

The Safety Fire? I'd personally just tune to AADGBe and don't care about the other string

In what situation would you use a baritone 6 instead of a 7 string?

TheInsurgent’s Profile PhotoTheInsurgent
Well, if someone wants to use Drop G or A standard tuning and prefers the sound of standard/drop 6 string tuning (which is different from 7 string tuning), that's a valid reason. Or someone just prefers less wide necks, or just wants to chug all day and doesn't care about the higher strings.
In the last case it's a bit stupid imho, not because of the playing itself but because you MIGHT need the higher string sometimes for a clean passage or whatever, so better to have it than don't.

Hi I'd like to ask how would you incorporate diverse influences into your songwriting? I struggle a lot with songwriting as I take influences from too many genres and can't really stick to one style, it makes songwriting a bit difficult for me as I don't know where the song would go. Thanks!

Why should you stick with one style? :) sometimes all the different influences create something new and fresh if they gel well together. Sometimes not. It's mostly in the cohesiveness and maturity of your songwriting, how the song flows. Just give it time!

How is the 14' radius on your CT74 compared to some of your other guitars?

Very easy to adapt, still pretty flat. We're not talking about vintage Fender 7-ish haha

Are you a fan of baritone 7 strings or prefer standard scale?

I'm a fan of the sound of the two lower strings on baritone guitars. Overall I prefer standard scale, but if I were to use drop G or something, I'd probably go for baritone.

What are some good affordable guitar luthiers worth a look, that dont have such a long wait list? I have searched far and wide and was wondering if you know of any small companies that are not that well known. Thanks

go with Carvin, very low waiting time, low price and unreal quality.

I have an EMG in the bridge and a stock pickup in the neck. I just bought a set of uncovered bkp juggs.. They're are not soapbar style will this compromise my tone or anything?

No, just aesthetical difference

ok thinking of getting a evh striped series guitar(basswood body, maple neck, floyd, only humbucker bridge pick up) just for my lessons with students.which bkp do you think would fit for just over all versatility? decent cleans, rock orientated guitar maybe delve into metal here and there.

That guitar BEGS for a Holy Diver. Btw I played it at Messe one year ago and it was fantastic!

Ciao fra, sto addocchiando delle rg 550, quelle col tacco. È vero quello che si dice riguardo la fattura molto migliore e del sustain rispetto alle ibby attuali? È difficile raggiungere i tasti alti rispetto all'aanj?

Do you think is good to learn other people stuff and try to understand what they thought when they wrote the specific solo/rhythm? Can you improve your playing and expand your vocabulary with licks/ideas and incorporate it in your playing?

Absofuckinlutely!

While sweep picking i have my wrist floating or resting on the bridge depending on the pattern and number of strings involved. Do you think that i should stick with one technique only in order to avoid inconsistency and lack of versatility later?

Some people do one way, some people the other. Do what feels best for you!

I know you're not a fan of multiscale guitars but what would you think of a 28-26 scale 7 string? Thanks so much for your time!

You just answered that yourself hehe :) no I would personally not like it.

what moinitors do you have before you buy Event Opals

I still have my KRK VXT6, not sure if I'll sell them, we'll see once Opals get there.

Have you ever tried the huschmid picks? And if so what's so different than the jazz III Dunlop picks? Other than the obvious thickness around where you held it. I guess my question is does it make a difference in sounds or playability?

Yes, thickness and material change the tone A LOT. I like Hufschmid a lot but still prefer my trusty Dunlop TIII 0.88.

Do you think that it is important to learn full songs to assimilate more easily differents styles and techniques than with simple exercises ?

I'm not sure if I ever learnt one song 100% apart from my band or session stuff :) I'd say just learn what you really dig and think could beneficial to your own playing.

What pickups do you recommend for a -Ibanez RG8, Basswood body, Rosewood fretboard, 27" scale. -Standard 8 tuning, sometimes half step down the G string. -Boss metalcore, Marshall mb30 -Death, trash, speed, heavy metal -Amon Amarth, Andy James, Stratovarius, Meshuggah

Duncan Nazgul bridge, Sentient neck

Hey Fra, recently I've been feeling as if my technique is lacking from what it usually is. I would say that my technique is pretty advanced but I feel that since I have been focusing on writing riffs and such, my alternate picking, economy picking, and my sweeps have suffered. Any advice?

The only way in which I can help you properly is via lesson, for more infos check FAQ #2

What's a good rack-mountable power amp that doesn't color your tone too much? To use in conjunction with a multieffects processor like axefx/line6 hdpro. Thanks. :)
