Who are some insanely good guitar players you know, but are not well-known?

One above all, Ben Lacy. Criminally underrated guitarist that imho should be revered at Tosin's level.

I hope you don't mind this question, but do you prefer HESU or ZILLA Cabs? Or do they both have their own awesomness? Cheers mate

Both are awesome and super high quality, just different! Can't go wrong with either

hey man, what tweaks should one make to a rhythm guitar patch (for studio) to use it live?

Good question! Generally speaking you want to listen to it way louder, and then tweak accordingly. The higher the SPL, the more bass and highs are enhanced. So a live tone should generally have less bass and highs and be very mid-prominent in order to rebalance this. If you play your live tone at bedroom volume it would sound too boxy, but it will do just fine with louder volumes.
To read more on this, google "fletcher munson" :)

Do you go on guitar forums every week?

I'm subscribed to daily email updates from various forum sources so I can see what's new without visiting them, but if a topic that interests me comes up, I'll click on the link :)

What's a pretty good budget mic for miking up cabs? Thanks in advance and can't wait for the Abiogenesis stuff \m/

SM57, doesn't get any better and any cheaper than that :)

why no crowd-funding for abiogeneeeeeeesssssissssss?

because we're not big enough yet to foresee a succesful crowdfunding, and we really wanted to fund everything ourselves, at least this time. :)

I have just got my jam up plug and i'm wondering what to buy; the jam up pro xt (with the metal expansion) or the BIAS? And also, is the 8 track recorder worth the money? Thanks for your time

Both :) I haven't used the 8 track recorder personally, but that's a cool feature - depends on your purpose!

what pickup humbucker in single coil size for a maple neck you like? (shred-polyphia style)

Fast Track/Cruiser/Air Norton S are all good, I wish for a single-coil sized humbucker by BKP though.

this may be a silly question but where do you get different colored gruv gear fretwraps? All i see i that they offer black on their website.

Colored ones are limited editions available from time to time, that might be why there are none other than black currently.

What ultra-res irs do you use(speaker+mic choices)for the axe fx 2? especially for lead tones

Don't know yet, I still need to listen and compare them all before choosing my preferred ones.

Your opinions on active pickups?

I like some of them, some of them I can't stand though. In the bridge I like the 81 or 57 depending on the purpose, in the neck I like the 66 mainly, 60 is cool too. Really don't like the 85 in the neck at all, and I'm not a big fan of the 707 either. Generally don't like blackouts, way too much output but they can work for certain things, I've heard glorious recordings made with them.

do you make custom patches for the axe fx 2? how would you charge? thanks man~

Yes I do - for infos & prices please contact me privately on FB, thanks :)

thoughts on focal cms50?

great monitors - a bit too bright for my taste but they're very detailed.

Just asked Aaron Marshall this question, but I'd love your opinion/advice/experience as well. I'm wondering what your approach is to setting amp sag, bias, bias excursion and balancing preamp and power amp distortion? Thanks you rock!

Honestly, just tweak knobs until it sounds good to your ears, regardless of the "fancy name" :)

Recommend me pickups: Suhr Modern 6 basswood with maple top, maple neck RW board. Standard, Eb, and Drop D/C# Line 6 Pod, gonna be Axe soon Jazz Fusion, Prog Metal, Alt. Smooth, tons of sustain, good cleans, organic and well balanced. Guthrie Govan, STS, Intervals.

Holy Diver bridge, VH2 neck. Obvious choice, will sound godly!

ever been interested in learning drums? it's a lot of fun... ;)

Yea, I actually purchased a supercheap drumkit time ago to learn stuff. Fact is, I'm lefty and naturally play as a lefty on the drumkit (opposed to the guitar), and it was a real struggle to learn everything reverse.
Maybe one day I'll learn the "right" way, even if it doesn't feel natural to me :/

Hey man big fan, any tips on how to get a good video setting for guitar playthroughs? I have a Canon t3i with a 50 mm and an 88mm plus lots of lights, but what about the settings them selves? Thanks in advance!

No setting can work for every room/lighting/purpose, tweak until it looks good!

What is your take on buying audio interfaces? Are the 2000 USD interfaces worth the price or with better production skills you could achieve almost the same results with a 150 $ interface? (Talking in terms of guitar tones )

As always, you get what you pay for. Sometimes it's more features, sometimes better quality, most of the times both. Depends what you need and what your quality standards are, but for sure an experienced engineer can make a pretty solid record with a 50$ Fast Track.
Regarding guitar tones, you want to capture the best possible signal so preamp and A/D converter are the things that make the difference from a budget interface to a better sounding one.

Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the Sonic Maximizer is awful. What don't you like about it? It seems to me all it does is hype the low & high end.

It works when you're playing by yourself at home, but within the mix it just makes the guitar disappear, the midrange gets lost.

What do you think of the Duncan '59 in the bridge position for modern metal?

I kinda like it! Organic and warm.

Do you have any tips to offer someone who's about to start a home, computer based studio aka me

Read as much as possible, trial and error as much as possible! Also don't spend too much on gear, but what you buy, be sure it's something you will use for at least 3-4 years and will serve its purpose just fine for your needs.
