I'm a fusion guy that also dabbles in some metal stuff from time to time; I need the sweetness, dynamics, articulation, note separation, and control tone of a mid-output alnico, but the grind, front-end output, and "push" of a hotter pickup. BKP Emerald, Holy Diver, Or Juggernaut set?

I'd say Emerald or VH2 set.

Would you be offended if I ordered a 7 string Carvin that looked very similar to yours?

Absolutely not, actually other folks asked me the exact specs of the guitar since they wanted to order a similar one. It only makes me happy that other people are into my aesthetic choices :)

Why do you "like" Nickelback on Facebook?

Because their production is fantastic and their records sound fucking huge man! Now, why do you bother wondering about other people's "likes"? :)

Hey Francesco! I'm going to get a guitar with a walnut body, roasted birdseye maple top, flamed maple and purpleheart neck and ziricote fretboard. At the moment i'm looking for some BKP, i want a really transparent sound with a lot of dynamics but even a grownling low end, mostly playing metal stuff

Transparent sound with lots of dynamics = Cold Sweat. Might be too bright for those woods though, which tbh I'm not a fan of in the combination you chose.

Do you prefer the HESU 2x12 to the Zilla Fatboy?

Both are very nice and can provide super good quality recordings and also sound excellent in the room. I choose both :P

I am using a Ibanez RG570 (Basswood body, maple neck with rosewood fretboard and a walnut strip in the neck [I think]) and I am looking for a new neck pickup (Seymour Duncan preferred since I cannot afford BKP) I am looking for something HUGE sounding and BASS-e lol Thank you!

Invader!

For $1000, do you think I could afford a good 7-string Carvin? Or should I save a bit more? Cheers Fran :)

If I'm not mistaken some of Carvin's 7 string models start at less than 1000$ with the basic specs, so yes :) If you want blips and blops like fancy wood tops or stainless frets etc etc, price might be higher, but not that much at all in the end.

Would you say the Blackhawk is a "scooped" pickup? Clearly in comparison to the Aftermath and Painkiller it is way less hi mid scratchy, but it still has that solid body/honk that BKP's competitors miss ...

I would say it's very balanced with a broad frequency range, but for sure it's got a healthy amount of deep low end. Generally speaking the higher the output, the more low end a pickup has, also the closer a pickup is to the strings, the more low end you'll get.

I want to buy my first sevenstring soon and wanted to hear your opinion on an used Iby RG7421 or RG7621. What pickups would you suggest for an Obscura- or Nile-esque sound (in that particular guitar)? Cheers

Nile sound = Invader or Warpig. Very massive. Obscura sound = Miracle Man or Black Hawk, both not very middy, a little old-school sounding, more output and plenty of low-mids and cutting presence. As an allrounder that fits very well with Obscura's technical riffing, Miracle Man would be my choice.

I'm very tempted to buy a 7 string that has a 26.5 inch scale and it comes with A standard tuning. My question is: will I be able to play in B standard tuning without compromising my vibratos and bends? Should i get like a thin set of strings? Thanks

There might be a biiiit of increased tension, but nothing that stops you from doing bends and vibratos. Worst case, a slightly thinner gauge will do just fine.

Where can I find pricing/buy HESU cabs? I really am interested and I can't find a place to buy them...

Contact them at info@hesu-amps.com - friendly prices :)

I'm looking to try some new strings out, any favourites?

D'Addario and Elixir are my usual suspects, my favourite gauge for standard tuning or Drop D is 9-46.

Ever play a guitar that you had very high expectations for and were disappointed?

Sure, it happens from time to time. Luckily as of late the opposite happens - I play a very cheap guitar and it feels/sounds incredible.

wait, smaller picks make difference in tone too? could please tell me more about this?

I compared the same riff recorded with a Tortex Jazz III and a TIII and even if they're made of the same material, TIII had more attack and "boldness" to it. I would personally never use a Jazz pick to record rhythm.

Hey dude, are you still using the tortex IIIs as your primary plectrum? Since you shred quite a lot, why don't you use the tortex jazz IIIs? Just curious.

My main picks are Dunlop TIIIs, either 0.73 or 0.88, or even just the normal Tortex. JazzIIIs are the most comfortable picks, but I can sacrifice a little bit of "comfiness" if the tone is perceivably better. Tortex Jazz IIIs don't sound as good as TIIIs due to the small size.

Do you like the engl stuff ?

Not too much into ENGL, but some of their amps like the Fireball 100 are teh br00tz!

How do you ask Carvin to use a non-stock humbucker in a custom order?

Contact them via email or phone, then send them another brand's pickup.

I'm starting to shop around for my first seven string, what do you think is a good first seven string? Keeping in mind i am prepared to pay up to $1500. Given your experience and vast knowledge what would you say gives most bang for it's buck ? Also thankyou for your time. ~love from Australia.

If your budget is up to 1500$, then absolutely Carvin. No better bang for the buck imho
