I've been trying to get my hands on a Chris Broderick pick clip, can't find any anywhere at all. I remember you uploading a pic of it on Facebook but saying you didn't really like it (correct me if I'm wrong). I will buy that from you!

I don't think they are still available on CB's website, probably sold out.
I think Dunlop is making an official version, but Essetipicks from Italy have a WAY better version already out which also works with smaller Jazz type picks.
I don't sell mine since it was a gift, anyway I find it totally useless.

Because it takes time to build one and people tend to keep them instead of reselling them, Doug of course still builds them.

Which picks do you use?

Dunlop Jazz 3 Carbon Miber Max Grip for shredding/gigs/record solos, Dunlop Tortex Sharp 1.35 for recording rhythms/cleans, Hufschmid Ultex for bass.

Yes, it's super tight and very modern sounding, but the voicing kinda annoys me like most Engls. I don't like it that much tbh.

Have you ever heard of Zilla cabs? OR Omega cabs? Custom cab company that seem cool. Any thoughts on either? :) If not, what is your favorite cabinet and why? Just curious on the gear you use :)

Zillas are awesome, I owned one and sold it just because I needed money at the time, superb company on all aspects. My currently favourite cab for recording is the classic Mesa 4x12 oversized, but Zillas are actually better for the "in room" wall of sound. Although I still have to try the new Randall cabs which might eat these two for breakfast!

Related to the dude with the powerball vs evh 5153 question...what are the pros cons of each? What do you have enjoy in both?

Simply put, I don't like the powerball, way too cold sounding for my ears. EVH sounds modern, brutal but also smoother on the highs, remains very tight and clear, and has exceptional crunch and clean too. Among my favourite amps if not my favourite.

when recording a DI, how hot should it be?

hot enough to drive the amp input nicely when reamped, but don't clip. the max peak when chugging should be -3/-4dB

do you find, as a left handed person, that your alt picking skill suffers and that economy picking/sweeping is easier?

Not sure if it's related to me being left handed, but sweeping feels a bit more natural to me than alternate picking, although I'm quite happy with my alternate as well. I'm not an economy picking monster but I do enjoy it a lot as of late.

what's your string gauge?

depends on tuning/purpose. 9-42 E standard for lessons/random shred, 9-46 + 60 drop A 7 string, 12-52 drop C 6 string, 9-46+60+74 drop E 8 string.

I getcha, I apologize for coming off as the stereotypical copycat, I just have no idea about tone, and I only go off of what I like to hear, and I love their tone, so I wanted that as like...a base. So later on I can see what I would rather hear and tweak. So even in versatility, EVH>Powerball?

For a dude going for a periphery esque tone, what tube amp should I go for under 2 grand? I know there will be pedals involved regardless :). I was looking at the Engl powerball, even 5153, and even the Randall Satan looks pretty versatile. Just making sure my money goes unwasted :)

While I do like Periphery's music, pleeeease don't follow all the cats trying to copy that tone since at this point it only hurts the music rather than make it more enjoyable to listen. That being said, if you really want that tone, buy an Axe Ultra. If you want a tube amp, 5150III.

Do you think a set of .011-.048 with an added .068 is overkill for drop Ab on a 25.5" 7 string? Looking for a tighter feel, like playing a set of .010's tuned to standard.

I'd go 12-52 if you want that 68. Or a hybrid between 11-49 and 12-52 would be even better. I generally prefer lighter gauges than these though.

There's lots to choose from regarding IRs: Kalthallen, Redwirez, Ownhammer are the most popular. There's actually a shitload more around but these are good for sure.
