i've learn riffs from the song the art of shredding by pantera, but for some reason i can't play it from start to finish, should i worry that i can't play it from start to finish? the important thing is that i learned stuff and put/apply it into my playing right?

yep, don't worry about that there's tons of stuff I can't play either :)

Thanks that was a really helpful answer! Do you think the Hannes would be nice in a 7 string Mayones Regius, or should I stick with Hipshot?

Up to you! Again, Hipshot is the safe bet and you definitely can't go wrong with it, plus Hannes is a bitch to install and would be a serious upcharge I guess.

Dear super talented sir, recommend me a decent 8 string from 1k - 2k price range. I like almost all genres.. so i am looking for a pretty versatile instrument

what do you recommend for a neck pickup if you want a fusion esque lead tone like guthrie or Mike Stern, but you also play Dillinger style stuff and you play a lot of high gain stuff too, so high gain leads etc. Painkiller or VHII, I know you said you love both, but for this situation, thank you :)

I'd actually prefer Painkiller in this case! Plenty of character and juiciness.

Hey Francesco, what BKPs would you recommend for basswood body/maple laminate top and maple/walnut 5 pl neck? looking for a rich/warm but at the same time tight and aggressive tone, like architects. PUs should be versatile enough to play jazz/fusion. thanks in advance! cheers

sounds like Juggernaut set I think :)

Schaller Hannes or Hipshot? Reasons?

Both are awesome, Hannes is incredible but for some reason I still think Hipshot is the safe bet. Schaller Hannes has a very prominent character/attack and might work fantastic with a certain guitar (like my B2), or not so well with another.
Also it's hard to explain but with the Hannes design you don't feel a "reference point" with your palm to where you are exactly (you only feel the saddle under your palm, not the bridge around it like Hipshot), so it's a biiit harder to find the sweet spot for chug/purr/etc.

have you ever felt lost on your direction of music ? I feel lost these days and don't know what to play/learn/listen, need help -_- ?

No it never occurred to me, there's so much good music around :) maybe try genres you haven't listened to yet!

Best way to practise legato?

There's no big secret about it, mainly it's mainly a matter of doing it slow and focus on having exactly the same volume on each note, and of course correct muting technique in order to avoid unwanted resonances from other strings. If interested in more details, read FAQ #2

BKP Holy Diver ponte, VH2 manico

Maan, I've been practicing a song for a while and it just feels amazing that after long practicing sessions, you can finally play fast things without effort, it's just a breeze and I love that :D, I just wanted to share this experience to you, so you keep making good music :)

Happy for you dude :D

Hey Francesco, I just want to say you're a fantastic musician, and also your Carvin is beautiful, keep up the great work man!!!

Thanks dude :)

what do you think about the music in chile?

I don't think I know any music from chile sorry :) maybe Coprofago is the only one I've listened to actually many years ago!

ciao francesco.

Hey Francesco . I've been playing the guitar from 4 years now. I cover songs by reading tablatures. I really want to cover by ear. How should I train myself ? I can't even pick up the chords by ear. Not showing off but, frankly I can do an appreciable number of techniques. I mostly cover songs from

Using your ears is incredibly important, if not THE most important aspect of all. Tabs are cool but wrong 99% of the time and most importantly they don't teach you how the guitarist actually approaches it, how he plays those parts.
I wasn't born with perfect pitch but listening to a huge amount of music got me close, for example if I think about the first "Master Of Puppets" chord I know it's an E powerchord, have that chord impressed in my head and if I then play the same chord on guitar, it matches. Maybe you should try the same with songs you're very familiar with :)
I'd say having "relative pitch" is actually more important than an absolute/perfect one. Good ears and relative pitch tell you what's going on, which mode is being used, why that chord sounds like that, which pattern/technique is used, and so on.
Perfect pitch sometimes is overkill, makes you notice too much :D I know some people that cringe every time they hear a not-perfectly-in-tune bend or chord, or that can tell you which note you emitted when you scratched your shoes on the floor, or stuff like that :)
Back to your question, there's something called "ear training", google it and that can definitely be a way of helping you. I never had to use it but I do apply it on my lessons with students that need it: for example I play a note and then another one, the student has to tell what the second note is when related to the first one (minor third, perfect fifth, etc). You basically have to imagine them been played at the same time in your head, perceive how they resonate together and what feeling they create together. That's a way to train your ears to dissect the big picture (chord/harmony/poliphony/counterpoint/etc).
In my case when I have to pick up chords by ear, I try to focus on just a certain frequency to get a single note out of it, usually the easiest one is the highest one been played (voice leading). After that I'll maybe focus on the lowest one, and that's two notes already. Then I'll focus on what's within, maybe do some trial and error with the guitar to get as close as possible.
Four years of playing is in my opinion not enough to already have mature ears, so I think you should do some healthy ear training and at the same time just don't use tabs :) Force yourself to replicate what you're hearing as close as possible, it will take some time but hopefully it will work for you!
Also listen to as much music from all possible genres. There's no substitute for that :)
