Yes, I've been in another Brutal Death band for two years until late 2010, we toured Italy/Europe with Decap, Suffo, Destruction, Benighted, Fleshgod etc. I never wrote anything for them though and we split since my priority became Abio and there were strong personal differences between us

A lot of modern guitars only have a pickup selector and volume knob. Do you think that guitars controls should be as simple as possible so the processing is left to the preamps etc.?
Tone knobs are fuckin pointless, and they actually suck a bit of your tone, the more you add to the signal chain...
I would actually even remove volume knobs and just have a killswitch (might do this on a possible next custom), if I want less gain I do so with a different patch. You should hit the amp with your full signal and let the amp shape the sound, both eq and gain-wise.

Generally speaking, I'd prefer no covers since the sound is a biiiit more "open", not just figuratively :)
Having played several different Jp models, do the painted necks bother you any, and in general do you prefer the painted, oiled, or roasted necks?
No they don't bother me, EBMM gloss finishes are the best you can get, I also find PRS gloss finishes exactly the same quality. A roasted neck can be oiled or gloss btw :) I love roasted necks, so fuckin stable!
your blackmachines have no inlays though, do you sometimes get lost on the higher frets?
It can happen yes, also if I remember correctly some of his guitars don't even have all side dots, but just some of them. I definitely do get lost on these
