Were pagers like cell phones, but for texting only? I don't really remember them, they were out of style by the time I was old enough to use a phone.
Most pagers only showed you a phone number to call. Maybe there were some fancy ones that had a small amount of text but otherwise it was just a notification from a specific phone number. You would have to find a landline or pay phone to call the sender.
