Are you a "food snob" in anyway? For example, are there certain foods that you will only eat if it's prepared in a specific way or if it's made by a specific brand?

A little less so than I seem on the internet. I’ll eat cheap mac n cheese if it’s put in front of me, I’m just not going to pay decent money for it. My issue is mostly with value. I went to an award-winning restaurant one time and order an appetizer. It was a generic $1.00 frozen pizza that had been warmed up, and they had the nerve to ask me if it tasted good. Of course it didn’t. I paid $10.00 for a dollar store pizza that you couldn’t pay me to eat again. That’s the stuff that ticks me off. But I would never be a food snob in someone's home.

How was your day?

I double masked and went grocery shopping. It went great. There were few people there because everyone is doing black friday at the big stores. Plus I earned $10.75 cash back. It was worth it. I’m home now to clean the kitchen and rest.

Would you share your mac n cheese recipe?

I don’t actually have one written down, but I’ll try.
My cheese sauce is a ratio of 2:1 sharp cheddar vs heavy cream. That’s twice as much cheese as cream. Sounds backwards, but trust me. I don’t use flour, I use full fat heavy cream. Heat the cream until it’s hot enough to melt the cheese, then take it off the heat and put the cheese in, stirring constantly. Do not leave it on the burner, because the cheese will burn/curdle and it’s ruined. To help with melting, make sure the cheese isn’t too cold when putting it in. Nearly room temp (but not sticking together) is ideal. It doesn’t usually need salt, but do add garlic powder (if you like it) and black and/or red pepper for flavor. If you’re me, you’ll probably add a Cajun seasoning like Tony’s instead.
Taste your sauce. Never serve something you haven’t tasted. Add more seasonings if needed.
(This is the same sauce that goes in my loaded potato soup.)
Boil the pasta till al dente, drain, and put in a baking dish. Pour cheese sauce in and fold until all pasta is coated.
Topping: 50\50 ratio of crushed crackers and shredded parmesan cheese. Add a layer of chopped cooked bacon if you like bacon. Sprinkle dried Italian seasoning on top of the whole thing and bake until toasty.
If you want an extra layer of flavor, boil the pasta in chicken stock or garlic broth, but I normally don’t.
The easier version is to use processed cheese, of course, but it will taste different. I like sharp cheddar, and doing it the hard way. 👍🏼

When responding to questions on AskFM, are you selective or do you try to answer everything?

Selective.
Too many repetitive and non-applicable questions.

Would you rather meet a wolf or a poisonous snake in the wilderness? Why?

Probably a better chance of escape from a snake, but I’ll be glad to stay out of the wilderness altogether.

Happy thanksgiving! 🍂🍗 How'd you describe the holiday in an honest way? Especially to someone like me who's never gotten to celebrate it?

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
My family doesn’t get into the history of it, although we are aware of the Colonial origin. We are simply thankful to be able to come together and share a meal. Almost everyone brings a dish or something else useful, and we eat while playing with the kids, catching up on family gossip, and watching TV or playing video games. Sometimes it is spread out over a period of 3 or 4 days, with certain relatives traveling to be with others. Sometimes there is a late-night bonfire to end the holiday if weather conditions permit it.
Pre-pandemic of course. I am alone today.

Anon is enabled until I decide otherwise.

FS: How long does it typically take you to get over something small before it becomes a bigger thing?

Most things are big things to an empath.

Have you ever been sleepwalking or done anything else in your sleep? 😴🚶‍♂️

TobbeAsks’s Profile PhotoTobbe
I think I walked once as a child. Other than that, I’ve laughed, cried, and acted in pain (wasn’t an act, was definitely in pain). No idea what I’ve done in middle adulthood, since I live alone.
