Possibly. I’m past the “make new friends” phase of my life, but if I do meet new people, then I’ll make the most out of it.

If you like something, that should give you the motivation to work harder for it. There is no point in pursuing something that you don’t like or enjoy, because you wouldn’t have the motivation or push or drive to do more than what is necessary to pass.

I like paper books, reading a physical book gives me more pleasure. But to each his own, both have pros and cons.

It’s not a matter of “berbaloi” or not, it’s a matter of how much you value the relationship and how much you can afford.
My parents didn’t put a high hantaran on me. In fact, they told me to decide on it with my husband on our own, and just let them know of our decision.
None of our family members knew of how much hantaran my husband gave to me, except (1) our parents, and (2) a couple of good friends.
I gave my husband the choice to give however many he wanted, I wasn’t picky. If given the chance, I didn’t want any duit hantaran at all, because why would I want to burden him with giving me the duit hantaran?
But my husband insisted on giving me the duit hantaran, so we decided on a number. It was the same hantaran that my brother gave to his wife two years ago, so we decided, okay, let’s just follow that.
I thought it was too much, and told him to reduce it. He, on the other hand, wanted to give me more, which I strictly told him no.
He said he wanted to treat me, to give me more so that I can use it to buy whatever I want for myself, but I would probably use most of it for us anyway (like household things, furnitures, etc).
Hantaran is a private thing between the bride and groom, it shouldn’t be a burden but it should be decided upon mutually on a value that is affordable for the guy but also worth it for the girl

Well, I have maybe 100 books that I bought over the past few years that I haven’t finished yet, so probably not the best person to give an advice on that. But perhaps you should just try and start. Pick a book that’s interesting, set aside a few hours of quiet and calm, find a place that’s comfortable and a cup of Milo / coffee / tea and just start reading.
