Assalam alaikum, is it permissible to eat chocolate that has 'vanilla extract' as an ingredient? I know some vanillas have alcohol but not all
No harm in that inshaAllah, according to the majority of scholars.
Vanilla has no alcohol. It was dipped in alcohol at one point. And that's only real vanilla extract. Cheap extracts are artificial flavours and don't contain anything Haram or anything useful.
In our mathhab it is prohibited because it was immersed in khamr which is Najis. Not because of any potential intoxication.
In all other mathāhib, it doesn't become najis by immersion, so it's fine.
