Sheikh, what is the farthest a student who goes through the Siraj program can reach? Is it meant for solidifying the general principals or training full fledged scholars?

Siraj institute is accredited and internationally recognized to provide knowledge to students from short courses to the general public to full university degrees in Islamic studies (undergraduate and graduate).
More details coming very soon inshaAllah on our fb page

Salam Sheikh, I hate being the dummy who asks this question, but what is the Hanbali position on moon sighting? I think I read 2 opinions (not fully sure if they are in the madhab) the first being that moon sighting is globally binding and the second being one follows the community.

What appears to me that the mathhab opinion is that it is globally binding, once one Muslim observes the new moon by eye, makes a testimony before a judge, and it's publicized, then Ramadan is confirmed upon the whole globe.

Shaykh, is deodorant that contains propanol halal? It falls under alcohol but does that automatically mean it is khamr? Please advise. I really need some clarification and closure on this issue when it comes to deodarant and cologne.

Propanol isn't khamr. Also search 'khamr' in the archive tool of for my account.

You mentioned the economist work is halal and etc. Can you mention some ways how a economist can work in his field without going against islamic laws?

Dow Jones Islamic Shari'a Compliance Board is one example of many.

Alcohol that is used in perfumes is not khamr right? So we can use it.

It is khamr if it was fermented. Some cheap perfumes ferment corn for that, but after a few years the fermentation smell starts to take over the fragrance.
Keep in mind that perfumes can contain all kinds of things. There's a perfume in the market, under the name of a famous singer, that, quite proudly, contains human semen and blood in its formula.

Salam Sheikh, do you mind posting this? The video series by Ustadh Tim Humble on the names of Allah is quite good. Also the book ‘Explanation to the Beautiful and Perfect Names of Allah’ was a great book to start with for me. May Allah increase us in knowledge and love for Him.

(According to an anonymous asker)

Will Siraj institute be fully online?

All classes will be live streamed yes. However, the degree programs, the community projects and the internships all require residency in Ottawa.
(But fear not! There'll be dorms in 2019 inshaAllah.)

Sheikh I was talking with my brother about financing I said that 1) if seller sells with an interest rate = permissible 2) if buyer takes a loan with interest from third party and buys from seller = prohibited Even if at the end, the same price was paid (with interest). Is this wrong?

With conditions,

Salam Sheikh, is there actually a narration about how the tears of the believers wipe away oceans of the fires of Jahannam? A famous YouTube video has this quote, but I never found it (in English )

It's from the words of the Tabi'een, as a form of giving hope to the sinners to repent.
All the narrations in this meaning are fabricated or extremely weak.
But the tears of the repenter are significant in the Eyes of Allah. The Prophet said: "No person crying out of the fear of Allah will be sent to Hell, unless milk can be put back into the udder. (i.e. It's impossible)..."

Is there anything wrong with holding your spouse's hand in public.

It's a great idea. She'll think you're romantic, and you'll make sure she doesn't run into a store to buy stuff 👌

Super excited for Siraj institute!! When will the courses be announced?

Bismillah, in August inshaAllah. Classes begin in Fall, inshaAllah. Please take a moment to make du'aa.

https://ask.fm/MajedJarrar/answers/141243480386 Isn't there a hadith where the Prophet walked by a group of his companions who were sitting together doing dhikr and he didn't stop them (even though he went to sit with the group that was talking about 'ilm)?

No, they were making du'aa (could be individually and silently, or one imam and the rest saying Ameen), and he didn't sit with the other either. He pointed that the one seeking knowledge was better, but both were good.

Al salamo 3lyko sheikh. I work as a broker for real estate and part of my job is to work with sub brokers under my management. Is it permissible to work with a female subbroker of course with Islamic limits yet knowing she might be meeting male clients on her own? Jazak Allah khairan.

You're held accountable for your actions, not hers.

https://ask.fm/MajedJarrar/answer/141242300994?utm_source=copy_link&utm_medium=iOS . I use to punch in and leave then come to punch out without actually working sheikh. I will pay the money back but should I pay it to the company yet not certain it will reach the owner or give it as sadakah

Betraying trust is a grave sin, and is one of the major sins in Islam.
You can't simply pay off major sins and walk away free. You need a sincere repentance, to change completely from that behaviour.
This is prohibited money that you cannot give as charity, for Allah only accepts that which is good. You discard that money - give it with the intention of getting rid of Haram, not charity - through possible means. You cannot discard it in building of mosques, or feeding poor and needy Muslims. But you may give it to maintaining hospitals, schools, roads etc and clothing of needy people.
Remember that the doors of repentance are open, but you need to walk in through them with humility and regret.

Sheikh, how do people religiously justify things like the mawlid, muraqabah, group dhikr circles, etc? Like, isn't it common sense that those things aren't Islamically sanctioned? Isn't it like they're saying "all the things the Prophet taught are good, but our Shuyookh had better ideas"

The inevitable result of worshipping without having enough knowledge, that one would attempt to please their Lord in ways that aren't pleasing to Him.
It could reach a point where for example, with regards to the ruling that it's discouraged (in Hanafi mathhab, as well as majority of mathaahib) to use the title Sayyiduna (our master) to the Prophet during the prayer, some extreme Sufis have said, even if it's prohibited we will still disobey and call him Sayyiduna out of our love to the Prophet.

This may be a very stupid question, so I apologize in advance. Why do people put so much emphasis on aqeedah ? In my limited understanding, isn't it a topic we shouldn't fight over since it's not exactly "proveable"? Like, why should it take precedence over learning actual worship like fiqh?

Fighting (especially between peers) whether it's over Aqeedah or Fiqh, is equally disturbing.
In an ideal world, a Muslim needs to first learn about their purification, prayer and other basic rulings of Fiqh, then learn about the life of the Prophet, the Qur'an and Sunnah, while learning Arabic to understand all the previous better. Their aqeedah (creed) is the fruit of all this.
Sometimes people get confused because they've learnt incorrect things indirectly, from their society, parents, teachers etc and would need to study aqeedah to correct it. It's a medication given to fight off misconceptions. Taking it without the need can be problematic, especially that it introduces the laity to misconceptions they may have never heard of, before refuting them.

Al salamo 3lykom sheikh. I use to work in a company and sometimes attended shifts and didn't do any work. I left this company but I would like to give the salary of those days back. If I am not sure if the money will go to the owner should I pay it as sadaqah. What do you think is best ?

If you're hired on shifts as security guard, cashier, janitorial, etc. Then it's fine if you finished your work early and rest, and still get paid for being there stand by.
