Is star rating super-accurate when considering pp? Is it possible to get more pp for SS on 5* map than for SS on 5,5* map?

It's not 100% accuracy, but it is pretty damn close. There is a very strong correlation between star difficulty and pp.

why does an ss on the big black only give 308 tp? I feel like it should give a ways more than that

Big Black is mainly so hard because of the sliders. Those 180BPM jumps would be a lot easier otherwise. Since the difficulty algorithm assumes the easiest possible movement on sliders, this map gets underrated. I can't really make it assume harder movement, because then some things like fast repeat sliders would suddenly get a high difficulty while all you have to do is keep your cursor at the same position.

Why do I sometimes go up ranks without gaining pp? I'll set a score, gain no pp, but I will go up a few ranks. Is this just the gained pp not showing up right away?

It doesn't make sense to gain rank without the server having calculated your pp. It's probably a bug in the display / data transmission.

I checked the star difficulty in the test build. Could you make the numbers higher? Like it would be cool to say extras are now 7 stars instead of 3.5. Also there are just too many maps in the 1/2/3 star difficulties so it would be cool to split them in half.

Up to 5 stars is still easily perceptible and distinguishable. If there were 10 a numerical display would be much more necessary, which again defeats the purpose of showing stars at all. I think 5 are better.

About the new star rating in the test build, and it changing with selected mods, good job. But it's a bit hard reading the exact difficulty out of the stars, since the decimal numbers make a big difference. Maybe add a mouse-over to show the number or add it behind the stars?

It's already displayed next to OD, AR, HP and CS at the top-left.

You finally got the dev! status on your profile (or you already have it since a few months ...). I know that it won't change much for you. But I guess that it is still nice to have. Yes this is no question

yay. :D

Why the only update by you that doesn't seem to be related to star rating is under "new_star_rating"

All the other stuff prefixed with "master" should be "new_star_rating", too. Those just are the branch names in github - so take them with a grain of salt. A lot more than written in the changelog has been going on under the hood, though. :P

I was wondering if you could\would possibly release a new client of the diff calculator since there are unranked maps that are missing from osu!tp. It's Probably is a big request I guess but you can't check the maps difficulty with the stars system on osu.ppy.sh with mods.

The new star rating is _very_ close to being integrated into the game - updating on the fly when changing gamemodes and mods.

Hi Tom, just a quick question. I fc'd https://osu.ppy.sh/b/124217?m=0 and it says I earned 83 pp from it (125pp weighted 66% = 83 pp) but I got 8... I'm just wondering why, osu seems to hate me recently :( Can you help me? - Toxyk

Toxyk
The weight of all your worse scores decreased, so the pp from them also decreased, thus your total gain was only 8 pp. This is how pp prevents farming. The more scores you have the less pp you get for equally good scores.

If per-hitobject data became available some day, how would it work with old scores? Would it take a pessimist estimate of the hitobject data for those scores, or what?

Most likely.

I want to make a video about 'weekly top10 score', but I meet a difficult about how to sort score. I think new Star Difficulty of map is a good idea, but if the player add a mod?

You can use http://osutp.net/scores?pn=&bn=&n=1 for the best scores in the past 3 days. Alternatively you can check through each player's top performance and take the scores which give the most pp - mods are considered there.

If you have a list of the aim strain of each note of a map, how do you calculate the aim difficulty from that? (for example, do you take the sum of the squares of each strain value, or what?).

I compute a weighted sum over the sorted aim and speed strains, similar to how a player's total pp is computed from their scores' pp.

For combo, what about if instead of storing Aim Difficulty as a single value, it stores "Aim Difficulty for X combo" (calculating for 50,100,etc, and interpolating between those values during pp calculations). For 150 combo, it takes the easiest section of the map that gives 150 combo and calculates

Hmm... taking like 10 values per map & mod combination sounds feasible. I'm not sure whether this pessimistic approach is a lot better, though. Not even speaking of how it would be very computationally expensive to even find the "easiest" parts of maps. Considering how currently it takes around a day to recompute the difficulty of all existing maps for all gamemodes (including unranked things) this would have a very negative impact.

What are you working on right now that you can talk about? It often comes across that you simply say "I may look into it"

I think I have mentioned often enough, that I am very busy with university things and that I do not have time for osu! things at the moment. The top priority things for osu! are first getting the new star rating ingame and then improving the way scores are handles so one can't easily lose pp by using mods anymore.
Algorithm changes for standard are at the lowest priority at the moment, since other gamemodes need them far more.

why are some banned users still on tp when other banned users are not?

osu!'s API still shows users if they are just hidden and not completely removed. Since osu!tp gets all its information from osu!'s API those users are technically not banned in osu!tp's view. It's not possible to circumvent that without just scraping osu!'s website.

I found while using your site Osutp, while under someones profile's best scores there are the options to search players and beatmaps. When I searched my name under the users field, it directs me straight to a different user, simply because my name is in his/hers. Does this need a fix or intentional?

Teshikumei’s Profile PhotoDrew Hanbei
Changed it to require the exact name in that field instead of allowing arbitrary parts of the name. Since there could be multiple results when looking for arbitrary parts it always took the user with highest tp rating. Not ideal behaviour, so it should work as expected now. :P

Also you didn't touch on this - "It'd be nice to see faster streams rewarded more and longer ones rewarded less (hopefully this balances out for long fast streams). Atm fast stream provide barely any pp compared to longer streams(say a few 270bpm 12 note streams vs a 40 note 220bpm stream)."

It's something I can look into, but a lot of other things currently have a higher priority.
