Yeah, that's why I said 2 scores: Airman to measure aim on extreme jumps, FD for speed, stamina and consistency on long maps.
http://ask.fm/Tom94/answer/117409130702
I only think that a system which tries to measure skill should do so without any exceptions.
Let's say player x has played offline since 2010 and now comes online and sets these 2 scores. He isn't a cheater and such a system should be able to evaluate his skil
You miss the point, that the system needs enough information about the player to make accurate assumptions. With your logic the system would have to give an offline player who then does just one 500pp score the same amount of pp if his skill is equal to the other guy.

You assuming that these 2 500p scores could bbe achieved by abusing a gap in the pp system means that you attempt to create a general allround system. In such a system there should be no gaps.
As if that's not the goal already. :p It can never be perfect.
http://ask.fm/Tom94/answer/117103322318
Yeah, but isn't it true that just after 2 500 pp scores you should be among the top 5? HDHR Airman for aim, Nomod 4Dimensions for good speed, consistency and awesome stamina.
You will have < 1000pp but you will have achieved stuff which is top 5 worthy.
No, you are a cheater in that case and are definitely not top5 worthy. :pThat being said you should have to prove your capabilities on a wide range of maps. Just getting one or 2 500pp scores could as well be a gap in the system or luck - theoretically speaking.
stimmt es dass bald ein pp update kommt wo die besten scores auf einer map nur pp bringen?
beispielsweise: HDHR score kann man mit DT wegen der accuracy nicht toppen, aber man bekommt die pp für das DT play (wenns mehr bringt)
Facerolled the keyboard until the number was in an acceptable range. On a more serious note: I originally designed it as a sum over 0.9994^i * 0.25 across all the scores which is far more round for certain reasons. The value 416.666666... which is the result when you compute this sum with infinitely many scores just stuck around.
if i were to have a play where most of my 100s were barely out of the 300 line, recreate that play with a program, and change the offset so the 100s would be 300s, would that be considered cheating?
"30 500pp scores" As a player in the top 300, I'd have to say that even a 400 pp score will take most people a LOT of repeats to get it.
Don't worry, I am not a bad player myself, I know how hard it is to get 500pp scores. It was just an example to show, that if you had what it takes to become #1 you could quickly get close to that goal.
The biggest problem in my opinion is too much grinding to go up ranks and HR not being valued as much in harder songs. PP seems to increase your rank too "step by step", not ever in large jumps even if achieving good pp scores. This advocates farming too much.1
That slow progress you are experiencing is connected to your skill and not to pp. You can get #1 with a handful of scores if they are good enough. You'd have 8000pp with just 30 500pp scores, and that doesn't include these 416pp.
http://puu.sh/aLnnZ/41b3e490e2.png what is this bonus for? I thought you wanted to prevent pp farming, and now you just give pp for free. Yeah, 416 isn't that much, but this is still confusing for me.
Farming is fine at the lower ranks. It giges people a sense of accomplishment and motivates getting scores on multiple beatmaps. In the upper ranks (talking about the top few thousands) pretty much everyone has accumulated enough plays to have a big portion of these 416pp, so no farming is possible anymore. That is unless it is a multi account, which are prohibited anyway. :p
How come the amount of PP gained from SS'ing a song isn't relative to how many stars the song has? If PP is rewarded for difficulty of a song, then shouldn't the stars accurately display this difficulty? I've had 5.11 star songs give me less PP than a 4.75.
It correlates but does not scale per se. Why has been explained many times on my profile, please scroll down.
hdhr just seems to be a different kind of hard, not necessarily harder. It's too bad you'll never have a moments peace, people will always be crying about how their "playstyle" is underrated
Well, it's impossible to have a balance that pleases everyone. Skill is subjective in the end.
With the way pp is right now, I really can't see a reason to go for hard songs with HDHR... It's currently best to just go for star diff 4.5 songs with HDDT and literally go from rank 60 to 8 in no more than 3 days
HDHR is far from underrated. Statistics don't lie. :p It just seems like more people enjoy the speed challenge of DT rather than the am + accuracy challenge of HDHR. The effort required looks like it is similar to me.
Is it possible to determine pattern difficulty by considering how sharp consequent turns (i mean the angle between 3 hitcircles) are compared to the previous, and looking for sudden changes in this?
I made this when I was bored today http://pastebin.com/73nxqjEL The algorithm has many aspects that can be tweaked. What do you think?
First of all that running time is far too long. Given 30k ranked maps this would take 166.6666 hours - keep in mind this also has to compute for autoconverts. A multithreaded environment would make it better, but I still think there has to be a way to improve this.As long as you don't provide details about your algorithm I won't be able to give any further feedback, though. I assume the resulting numbers are decent, but many factors are still unknown to me. Things like robustness, how it works with potentially new patterns, how it deals with the BPM specified by the mapper etc etc.
Report people via the !report command or scores via the website. Don't write that to me on my ask.fm. Neither can I help now is this the right place to ask for it. :p
http://ask.fm/Tom94/answer/116680984526 His account is restricted from the day he made it, we've sent a ticket the same day, but no reply yet. For how much longer does he have to wait?
As long as it takes the support to answer your ticket. I am just a developer - nothing to do with that kind of stuff - sorry.
Hello, please answer my question. I uploaded it as a .txt because it exceeds the word limit. http://puu.sh/aIBXj.txt
It would change top-play dramatically since basically everyone would be able to stream 250bpm+ with a bit of practice. I don't think it will ever happen for precisely that reason. It also would push mouse into a big disadvantage due to either only 2 buttons being available or horrible button placement if one wants to use 3 buttons.
Hey Tom I've been watching the Cookiezi live streams on Youtube do u know what skin effect causes the hitcircles to grow bigger when u hit them like in his skin?
That always happens, regardless of skin. A while back it used to be way stronger, but got reduced due to many players complaining, that the circles persist for too long, making reading harder on fast patterns.
Yo. These questions about your algorithm again, sorry
Does it consider the distance between circles other than counting speed needed to reach both? A fullscreen jump is imo harder than a short jump even if you need to move your cursor slower
