Sometimes, when you watch a player who is better than you, do you get envious of their skill or do you simply not care?

Not really envious, more like impressed and astonished. I love spectating players like rrtyui (or previously Cookiezi) doing crazy scores - it simply amazes me.
That being said it's not like I don't want to be as good. I just don't value being able to click circles as such an important skill.

http://ask.fm/Tom94/answer/123871499214 I noticed the cursor sometimes freeze for a second; and Im sure its raw input problem because it doesnt freeze when i turned off raw input. also before the update the latency is always fixed at 1ms but now it increased to 8ms-12ms.

Did you read the changelog? The latency display was previously bugged. You always had 8-12ms. Regarding the freezes I don't know what could cause this - but there was certainly nothing changed with the mouse raw input handling that could cause those. :/
Can you keep trying without raw input to see whether you get those freezes sometimes after all?

hey tom, recently raw input is kind of broken; it works perfectly fine before the update. my friend said it too. we are using mouse. do you change anything of it? can we get the previous raw input before the update?

If you don't tell me what exactly is broken I can't fix it. I can only say that for mouse in fact nothing regarding raw input changed, so I'd be very surprised if something actually broke at osu!'s side for you. Give me specifics either way and I'll look into it.

Ehm Tom I was reading that many people and you are wanting that osu become as an only accuracy matter game regardless of combo lengths but I kinda feel that osu should be a skill based game aswell with a good ballance between combo and accuracy meaning dat a 97% FC can value more than 50% comb 99.5%

I never said I want osu! to be entirely accuracy based... where are those stupid rumors coming from all the time. It should still be combo based to a large degree. The current situation is merely ridiculously in favor of combo, which is bad, but having a good combo scaling is very important in a game where you NEED an incentive to actually play crazy jumps and not just sit on one side of the screen.

I noticed that Raw Input in cuttingedge build now works with Wacom tablet. Does Raw Input have lower latency? I play a bit worse with it (not used to how the cursor feels), but if it has lower latency I guess it would be better in the long run to get used to it.

In theory raw input should have the lower latency.

what do you think that would make a hard FL map? High SV? slider jumps? Or do you think its just about memory?

Even with perfect memory FL would still be harder than nomod due to small adjustments to position and stuff like that being way harder. That being said I'd imagine lots of sliders and jumps would make it the hardest. Sliders due to the visual confusion and requirement of more memorization, jumps for the same reason.
Take this with a grain of salt, though, since I'm not an FL player and ultimately have no clue about how it actually is like. :P

http://ask.fm/Tom94/answer/123438736078 is a reward for playing well on the hard parts of a song something you would like to implement in the pp-algorythm? and do you think it will ever be implemented?

I would love to implement it, but it'd mean saving EVERY hit in EVERY score. This wouldn't even be possible to retroactively apply to past scores. There is however one big issue I recently came to see with that approach: Touch screens would be heavily overweighted with the current difficulty system in that way. I can FC the beginning of http://osu.ppy.sh/b/27638?m=0 on my tablet PC and that's give tons of pp. We are talking about magnitudes of like 1000.

Does song length matter in pp? Lets say if a mapper made two same songs with same patterns and paste one right after abother one like marathon, will it have more pp than just one song length?

Of course.

Hi Tom, as ståsted earlier by you and peppy as well, osu will at some point become open source. And that is awesome, but wont This make hack and cheats easier to make? Is This inevitable, or do you have any plans to make hacks harder to code? i hope you Get a fantastic new year! Cheers :)

I'm sorry, but I won't go into any detail about that aspect of the game. We know what we are doing, no need to worry. :)

why are you working on osu on holiday?

It's fun! Also I've been fiddling with getting windows touch to work in osu!stream. Fun stuff. :D
Too bad online score submissions aren't running when playing osu!stream on desktop.
(I only made the osu!stream window so small to take a reasonably sized screenshot. I did play on fullscreen, not on that tiny thing.)

Hello Tom. How's your vacation been ^^? What precents did u get ?

Well, the one present I got was my parents paying my flight to Israel for me (which was very generous of them, <3 u Mum and Dad). I'm most of the time buying what I want, though, so I don't have any real need for presents.

Was there a change in pp in the past couple days? Seeing a huge drop in rank in the performance graphs of many people around my rank and my own as well.

Some maps had bugged .osu files sometimes resulting in low combos being considered "full combo" by the algorithm and incorrectly giving too much pp as a consequence. This has been fixed for the most part.

I thought a system to get more feedback for making difficulty calculation systems: http://pastebin.com/3TFgEfPb

So you suggest balancing the system around nerfing the maps that are most popular for farming? I don't think people would appreciate if the maps they play for pp on always get toned down. That being said the recommending program will also without doubt have its issues which would then perturb the balancing of the resulting pp system.
