Hi, regarding the 8MCs of SUs that i can carry forward to sem 2, is that still the same for my case? BBA+DDP+UTCP and taking IEM in sem 2. will i still only be able to carry forward 8mcs?

Only 8 MCs can be carried forward to semester 2.
Even if specified by your college that your IEM has a CS/U policy, that S/U technically speaking is not counted together with the 2 S/Us that you can bring over. That is to say, (only if specified by your college) you will have 2+1 S/Us for semester 2 :)

Hi,may i ask for business student,which round do we bud for our gem mods and biz mods respectively?thanks.im year 1 ,in sem 2 soon.

You may bid for business modules in Rounds 0, 1A, 1B, 3A and 3B. GEM modules and all other non-business modules are open for bidding in Rounds 2A and 2B.

Hi, if u get a F grade, take an unsatisfactory grade for it and retake, would the grade(that is count to CAP) be an average of the result from two sem or the result from the later sem? same goes for a D+ grade

If you S/U your F or D+ grade, these modules will not be counted in the calculation of your CAP. However, if you retake it (assuming that it is a core module), then your grade in the second semester i.e. your retaking will count towards your CAP. It will not be an average of two semesters since the U-ed modules in the first semester will not be considered at all.

Hi, what does closed bidding mean? What kind of mods can we bid for during closed bidding and does this mean we don't bid in the other rounds? Thanks :)

Hello there :) Closed bidding simply means that bidding statistics (e.g. highest and lowest bid points, bidding status) will not be made known to any bidder. The type of modules you may bid for depends on which round of bidding it is.
And no, this does not mean you don't bid in any other rounds - closed bidding is merely a more 'secretive' method of bidding for both the system and the user. Please bid during open bidding as much as possible! You can use the statistics provided to your advantage :)

Hi when will the allocation of our seminar slots be out?

Hello there! The BBA office pre-allocates our modules on a rolling basis. Therefore, there is no fixed date in which everyone receives their module lists. Once pre-allocated, you may either check it on IVLE or myISIS. However, the pre-allocated modules will definitely be made known to you on the first round of bidding when CORS opens, i.e. 29th December at 0900 hrs.
We hope that answers your question!

hello!:) if i got 1 C+, 1 B-, 2 B and 1 B+, what will be my new cap if i SU (1) the C+, B- and (2) C+, B-, 2Bs (so left B+ only)? thanks for helping!!

Hi, I believe you should begin with reading the information on this website link:
http://www.nus.edu.sg/registrar/edu/modular.html
Anyway, to answer your question, (1) 3.67, (2) 4.0
More importantly, however, you could reflect on how much better you can expect to do in the next semester and for subsequent semesters. Your CAP in this semester is hardly as representative of your abilities as those in your next 7 semesters. Think hard about the type of degree you wish to graduate with, the CAP that is required and how much more effort would be required to achieve that goal.
By keeping only the B+, it would put you on track to a second upper class honours, but only if you can sustain this grade for all your subsequent modules (at least B+ for all modules remaining, or A-/A to compensate for any grade below B+).
By keeping your Bs and your B+, you will be on track for a second lower class honours, and your CAP will not be as vulnerable to a B- or C+ in the future. However, it will be even harder to move on into a second upper class honours or first class honours (at least 2A- and the rest B+, with further A-/A to compensate for any grade below B+ for second upper class honours).
It would be best to make this S/U decision a pivotal point in your university life to think over how much effort you are willing to put in for your degree and work on this goal.
Good luck and feel free to ask us if you have further queries!

Hi i got 4 B+, should i S/U 2 of them if i m aiming for 2nd upper honours since i have 2 S/U to spare?

Hi! If you're aiming for a second upper class honours, you will need to have more As than Bs, so each B+ will only serve to pull your CAP down. If you have the S/Us to spare (meaning they would expire if left unused), I believe to S/U for 2 of those modules would help boost your CAP when you achieve A- and As in the future.
However, if you are realistically expecting to fall below a CAP of 4.0 in the near or far future due to modules you have no confidence in scoring B+ or higher, then keeping these B+s will serve you better as they would minimise the fall of your CAP below 4.0.

should i S/U B+ if I am hoping to get a second upper honours?

Hi! A second upper class honours requires a CAP of 4.0. Since a B+ corresponds to a grade of 4.0, it makes no difference whether you S/U this module.
You should keep the B+ because it can act as a buffer to keep your CAP nearer to 4.0. Mathematically, this buffer mentioned will only serve to minimise the deviation from 4.0 but not bring it to the minimum of 4.0 required.
If you have 1 B and 1 B+, your CAP would be 3.75.
If you have 1 B and 2 B+, your CAP would be 3.83.
Either way, whether you have the B+ or not would not get you a CAP of 4.0. You will still need an A- at least to bring the overall CAP to 4
0 for second upper class honours in both cases.
Hence, if you expect to consistently score above B+ (or at least more A- or As than B and below) then a B+ will drag your CAP down and prevent you from moving up into a first class honours. If you have the SUs to spare (especially since 3 will expire for business students in the first semester of study as the other 2 are brought over), then it would be a good course of action for people aiming for second upper and first class honours to SU this module.
If you are aiming for second lower class honours, then keeping the grade for this module will help to act as a buffer should you do badly in the future by keeping the CAP nearer to 4.0.
I hope this helps you in your SU decision, and feel free to ask us on any other concerns you may have on SUs or other matters.

Hi! I received mediocre results, 1 B+, 1 B, 2 B- and 1 C+. I'm still aiming for second upper class honours and I was wondering if I should SU the B?

Hi! Considering you are aiming for second class honours, you need a CAP of at least 4.0. The B will get you a grade of 3.5. Hence, it will only drag you down because every B you keep you need an A- over a B+ to bring it back to the average of 4.0. Simply put, you should.
However, assuming you are in your first semester and thinking of whether to exercise your 4th s/u option and bring over one to the second semester instead of two, you will have to consider if second upper class honours is a realistic expectation. If you are prepared to dig deep and really work on getting your CAP to at least 4.0, then mathematically it would make sense to SU the B. However, if you think you may do badly in more than one subject next term perhaps due to existing external commitments, it may be wiser to keep the fourth SU and carry over 2 SUs to the next semester. This method would bring you more security in the sense that you can afford to do badly in two modules, but if you are prepared to work very hard and spend a lot of your time to do what you believe you can achieve and are aiming for, then you would have no use in keeping the SUs.
Overall, a second upper class honours requires an average grade of B+. Whether to SU your B will depend on whether you can or are determined to achieve better in the next semester. If you are ready to commit, then SU your B. If you are laden with many commitments, keeping more SU options open for the next semester may be a better choice although it will undoubtedly bring down your CAP slightly below the required 4.0.

Hello! (: I'm wondering if you could give some advice with regards to the s/u option. Is it advisable to S/U modules with B and below so that the overall cap would improve, or to advise B as well? Thank you!!

Hi! We would like to emphasise that there is no best way to use your s/u options without knowing your future grades. However, if you do have a projected CAP you wish to achieve, then your s/u options can be used to work in that direction.
As a fact, a B gives a grade of 3.5. This is the minimum grade for a second lower class honours. If that is your aim, whether you s/u or not will not make a difference. If you are planning on getting a second upper or first class honours, then this grade will only pull your CAP down and below the required CAP of 4.0 and 4.5 respectively. Hence, you should s/u any B or below if you are aiming for second/first class honours.
Of course, it is unknown whether you can avoid getting a worse grade over the next few years, but if you are in your first semester of study, at least 3 of your s/u options will expire if not used and would be best used to disregard the Bs and other lower grades if you are planning on achieving second or first class honours.
If you are no longer in your first semester, it is difficult to say whether you should use your s/u options because there is always a chance you may do very badly in a particular module. However, it must also be noted that as you advance, the number of modules eligible for the s/u option also decreases. You may not be given the opportunity to s/u any module you do worse in in the future.
Overall, I believe it is in your interests to s/u the Bs and grades lower than Bs, unless you are aiming for or realistically expecting an overall CAP lower than 3.5.
I hope this helps, good luck, and feel free to ask us more questions on ask.fm!

can I have more info about the floating SUs? and SUs in general. for AY 2015/16

Hello!
First, to answer your question, floating SUs are SUs that can be used in any time of your time in university. You have 12MCs worth of floating SUs, which generally means 3 modules. Students generally use them for GEMs and other electives beyond the first year, although you are free to use them at any time.
The SU option (both floating and in general) is applicable only for the following types of modules:
All Level 1000 modules (Except for English for Academic Purposes modules);
Level 2000 modules with no other NUS modules as pre-requisite;
CLS’ Language modules;
CELC/UTCP’s Ideas & Exposition 2 (IEM2201);
CELC’s Level 2000 communication modules; and
(For accelerating students) – Level 2000 modules with NUS modules as pre-requisites; if read in the first semester only
For your next question, on SUs in general,
SUs stand for Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory, and when used, any grade C and above will be converted to satisfactory, and any grade below C will be converted to unsatisfactory. Do note that you have to exercise this during a set period shortly after the results are released. It won't be automatic so remember to do so if you have to!
An unsatisfactory grade will mean that you failed the module and will need to retake it. Regardless of whether you get an S or a U, once the SU is exercised the letter grade will no longer count towards your CAP.
On top of your 3 floating SUs, you have 5 SUs for your first semester in year one.
This means that you can SU up to 20MCs in your first semester in year one, and up to 8MCs (which must be unused in the first semester and carried over) from your basket of allocated business modules in semester two.
Hope that answers your questions!

Hello! Are the dates for finals fixed? Or is it subjected to changes??

Hi! Dates for finals stated at the start of the semester are unlikely to be subjected to changes, but you should always check the Exam Schedule on myISIS for the latest updates and also other critical information like your seat number and the exam venue. These information may not be up on myISIS just yet, but do remember to check out myISIS before your exam in a few weeks' time to confirm the details for your finals. Hope that answers your question!

Hi, is it advisable to put bsp1005 acc1002 and ger1000 tutorial on the same day?

It completely depends on your inclination towards certain modules. If you feel you can cope with all 3 tutorials and their respective pace and content in one day then why not :)

Will there be an SEP talk for business students only or the only SEP talk is for the whole of NUS?

Hi there, a SEP talk has been held just yesterday (9th sept) exclusively for business students. If you didn't make it for the talk, do feel free to approach the SEP / BBA for any queries you have.

Hello, If I went into a wrong sectional group during the first week, and the classes has already joined groups, what are ways to remedy it? Should I continue to join the wrong class or go to the right class?

It'd be practical to return to the original sectional you were assigned to; do contact your original sectional tutor for help with forming teams for your project if necessary :)
