Hi, I'm a freshie in NUS and I got outbidded for ES1102. ): i do know that ES1102 is an attendance based class and my preferred slot falls on Monday. Can I appeal for the module now instead of 11 or 12 of Jan which is round 3 where I have to try to bid..

Hi, unfortunately you probably can only appeal after end of round 3, where you are still given a chance to bid for your preferred slot. Sometimes, during round 3, students pull out from the class, and hence there will be available vacancy to take in students for that class. You can only appeal after end of round 3.
But don't worry, first week of lesson for ES1102 (i.e. 11th & 12th Jan lessons) is cancelled, hence you can bid in round 3 and still make it for first lesson of ES1102!

what is the procedure if we want to overload? what do we have to include in the email/what are some possible reasons? and is there any format?

Hi, yes you will have to email the BBA Office to inform them of your intention to overload, as well as your reason to overload in that semester. It is recommended you provide them with basic information such as student ID, year of study, and Cumulative CAP, so as to justify your capability to overload.

Hi, i've been allocated with CFG1010 module. What kind of module is this (are there any assessments included?)? Including this module I have 6 modules in total. Is this too many?

Hi there, CFG 1010 Roots and Wings – Personal and Interpersonal Effectiveness 1.0 is a 0 module credit module with no exams, something similar to BFS 1001, which is merely an enrichment class that helps you build interpersonal skills. It will not impose a huge strain on your academics not to worry, since there is no examination for it!
The module details are as follow:
"The world we live in is becoming increasingly volatile and complex, giving rise to the need for students to learn core behavioral strategies and develop healthy mindsets which will allow them to focus, thrive and respond with agility amidst an environment of rapid change and disruption. This is an e-learning based course which investigates and demystifies the future-ready skills and provides students practical techniques based on the latest research in neuroscience, psychology and leadership, so that they may understand the nature of their mind, learn the science of focus, and maximize their potential in their academic journey, life and career."

Hi sorry to trouble you but can I just check, if i've already been allocated with 6 modules (one of which is GER1000) with a total workload of 20MCs...then i don't have to bid for any other GEM mod. Is that right? Thank you!!

Yes that is correct! GER1000 is a preallocated GEM for you this semester, hence you need not do any additional bidding.

Hi, what is the minimum attendance requirement for BFS1001?

Hi, it is to be present throughout the whole class duration for 4 out of 6 classes. The reason to be present throughout as attendance is taken 3 times - before class, during break and after class.

Can we still bid for es1102 and GE mods in round 3?

Yes you can! For es1102, it may be harder cause you will have to compete with seniors who have ton loads of bid points. Nonetheless you can still try!

What's the maximum workload for biz? If its 25, we don't have to request and just bid on rd 3 for 6th mod? If 23, we need to apply through cors or email to biz office with reason?

The maximum workload for single degree students is 23MCs while it is 27MCs for double degree students. To apply for modules beyond your workload, you have to contact the BBA Office in order to bid for more modules during Round 3 :)

Hello. What are the procedures for a change in lecture slot for a core biz module? Say I was allocated Lecture group 1 but I'm interested in 2 instead. And the change would be crucial becas the system would not allow me to bid for timeslots that clash with my lecture slots. Thank you!

Hello there! You should contact the BBA Office to request to have your core module shifted to another timing, stating your reasons above. However, if that doesn't work out due to administrative limitations of the Office, then you may submit an appeal through CORS to request to drop your preallocated module, and then appeal again to take up the same module providing your reasons. Hope this helps!

Hi, what is considered as a high bid for a GEM module? Would points be added as we progreaa from sem to sem?

Hello :) What is considered a high or low bid for any modules is relative to how your cohort mates bid for the same mod. Hence, it is usually better to observe the HLBP (highest / lowest bid points) column during open bidding to make a better judgement on how you should bid.
And yes, every semester 1000 points are allocated into your P and G accounts. For single degree students, the split is 600/400. For double degree students, the split is 650/350.

Hi, I noticed that some modules have A/B/C (e.g. FIN3101A) behind them but I couldn't find an explanation anywhere. Some of these are available in different semesters. Are these different from the main module and who can take them? Thanks!

Hello! For non-topical modules such as FIN3101/02/03, the suffix at the end of the module code just mean that the classes are being taught by different instructors, i.e. FIN3103A and FIN3103B are the same module but A and B classes are being taught by instructor A and instructor B accordingly.

Hi, is it advisable to bid for a module if one of the lecture class is at another faculty, but it is inbetween 2 lessons at biz school? I'm really interested in taking up this module, but am hesistant because i fear that there would be time constraint to travel from science to biz and back. Thanks!

Hi there! If the two business modules sandwiching your science module are sectionals then it is not advisable to do so, as sectionals are dependent on class participation and being late will disadvantage you as compared to other of your cohort mates. However, if your business modules are lectures or tutorials then it should be okay as you will be able to catch up on content independently.
Ultimately, it boils down to whether you think you can manage your time efficiently outside classroom hours. But if you are really interested in that particular science module then by all means, take it! :) You probably don't want to live with the nagging regret of not taking a module that you are truly interested in :)

Hi is it that we can only bid for GE modules in round 2? I am a first year student (taking sem 2).

Yes that is correct, Round 2 is for GEM modules!

I checked the NUS guidelines and it seems like it is recommended for us to complete our 5 GEM modules by end of year 2 (4 semesters). Does that mean we have to take 2 GEM mods in one of the sem?

Hi there, very sorry for the late reply, we were awaiting BBA Office's confirmation on this as well. To quote, "It is the University’s recommendation that all students should complete the GE requirements no later than the 4th semester." What this means is:
For first year, most students are preallocated 8 core modules (4 in each semester), and we have to bid for 1 GEM in each semester. However, in the second year, you are given the choice to bid/appeal for your desired modules, which need not be a core module. Hence, you can actually bid for 2 GEM modules in one semester to complete the requirement of 5 GEMs by 4th semester. This is because in year 2, not core modules are required to by completed in year 2, and can be taken in year 3 onwards. Those that are prerequisite i.e. ACC1002, FIN2002, MKT1003, are either completed by in first year or will be preallocated in year 2.
TL;DR BBA Office recommends students to complete their 5 required GEMs by 4th semester. You can do so by not taking 1 core module in year 2 and replacing it with a GEM. However, even if you don't, it is unlikely BBA Office will fault you.

If I want to bid for a biz module as UEM, do I bid in round 1 (for core mods) or round 2 (for ULR/UEM)? I'm a biz student. Thank you!

Definitely round 1, since it is for core modules. Round 2 will be opened to all students, hence you will need higher points to bid in round 2.

Hello. I understand that the guideline is to complete the 5 GEM modules by the end of year 2, ie 4 semesters. If that's the case, doesn't that mean that we are required to overload in one of our first 4 semesters (that is, taking 2 instead of 1 GEM mod within one of our first 4 sems).

I'm a freshie. Just to check, I read in the NUS website that we are required to complete all our 5 GEM modules by the end of Year 2. Is that true? And if that's the case, this means we are required to take 2 GEM modes in one of the semester in order to fulfil the requirement?

Hi, to know whether a module is webcasted, would we only be able to find out when we are allocated that module? Thanks!

Yes, you will know when you are allocated that module, when more information is provided on IVLE! Alternatively, you can ask your friends or seniors who have already taken that module if there is webcast before you bid for it.

Hi, the only way we can change our preallocated module is via mutual swap? There are several gem modules which I want to take but they clash with my preallocated modules :(

Yes, unfortunately you have to mutually swap preallocated module's class timing to fit the GEM module time you want to bid for. Alternatively, you can just take another GEM that fits your current timetable, and bid for the GEM you want next time!

If we are bidding for GE modules, which account from the bid points be deducted from?

Modules that you bid which are not from your home faculty will have your bid points deducted from your General account :)

How do you determine who is the tutor for different tutorial slots?

The tutors for each tutorial slots are already fixed, hence you will only know who your tutor is after you have balloted for your tutorial classes!

Hi, can I ask is it true that for ES1102, biz students are only allowed to bid for the slots under group B in round 1 and 2 and not the other slots under say group A?

Yes that is true, because for round 1 you will be bidding with students in the same year as you first, hence there are fewer options available. For business students it's under group B! In round 3 however, the bidding is open to all students, including seniors, thus you will have more group options!
P.S Round 2 bidding is for GEM, so you cannot bid for ES1102 in round 2!

Wouldn't there be grade inflation with the gradeless semester, thereby disadvantaging the senior students?

I believe seniors would have loved to have the gradeless semester as well, but unfortunately this policy by NUS only started when it was announced last year, for students to ease into university life more comfortably. Grade inflation among the freshmen, even if statistically true, should be highly unlikely to affect the seniors. They belong to different years, and enter the workplace in different times. The competition between years should not be too strong, and hence grade inflation should not cause concern for either freshmen or seniors.

hi! for students that matriculated this year, how many UEs do we have to clear, for both 3 year and 4 year Acc students?

Each student has to clear 12 MCs worth of UEs (usually 3 modules). For students taking up an honours year (4th year), they have to clear 32 MCs worth of UEs (usually 8 modules).

what does it mean by unrestricted elective modules? where can i find a list of those modules that i take for this category?

You can take modules from other faculties, GEMs, or your home faculty's modules to fulfil the requirement from this category (as it is an unrestricted elective). In essence, any module can fulfil this graduation requirement, as long as you fulfil the MCs required.
