I am a teenager and I talk to a lot of people of the opposite sex. I speak in a friendly manner and have no intention to take it any further than this. I see them as my sisters and therefore have no dodgy thoughts about them. Someone once said that I should stop speaking to them, what's your opinion

We can talk to people of opposite sex, we are not that extreme but you know yourself if your doing something wrong. As a Gursikh you may be giving an image off to other people which you don't intend...

I can't concentrate while reading bani and it kills me on the inside that how much of a moorakh I am.Guru sahib did so much for me but I'm just a moorakh I suffer from depression and it spoils my day.

Vaheguru - don't beat yourself up, that's not good! Try listening to Bani if it gets too stressful, or just try and read it slower and louder jee. Do Ardaas to be blessed with Nitnem, it all comes when Guru blesses us. We will never appreciate enough how many sacrifices were given for us, we just gotta keep going on this path even if sometimes it gets shaky.

Bhai Sahib Ji, a question about gelling my daree. Although not for safety reasons, it's more professional to tie-it and I'm in a customer facing role, so I know my manager would frown at a kulee-daree. In that case, is it ok? My Guru Ji is forever understanding correct? Think this is ok?

To who is it professional looking to ji? If your manager is against kulee-dhari after explaining to him why we keep it then if its a must, its ok.

If someone starts following Sikhi, should they change their name to a Sikh name?

If you feel the love for Guru Ji then one would definitely want to be blessed with a name that comes from the first letter of a Hukamnama (random Shabad).

I have a question if a girl be vegetarian and never eat meat her body will be very weak because no protein And the blood in her body will be less and her mestrual wont be following with time and all. what shall she do?

You don't need meat to live its not meant for us, we can get protein from other sources such as chick peas, lentils, daal, there's loads more. Do you think Mata Sahib Kaur was weak? Proved to be braver than 40 Mukhte, a veggie diet!

How to pray to Waheguru?

Vjkk vjkfateh. pray to vaheguru by waking up in the early hours of the morning (Amrit vela) and read our morning nitnem... Japji sahib, jaap sahib, twav prasaad swayiae, chaupai sahib & Anand sahib then Ardas.
for evening prayers after 5pm, read Rehras sahib and Ardas.
before sleep read kirtan sohila and Ardas.
These can be found on YouTube if you can't read gurmukhi or find it hard to read romanised. We also have them on out SoundCloud account Ji.
Also they are just the minimums.... with every breath we should be doing vaheguru simran (remembrance of vaheguru I.e. by saying vaheguru or remembering of his qualities & love etc.)

Why is that some sikh's eat meat and drink? Does guru ji get upset or do something to punish them?

the age of kal yug.... the illusion of the world is very strong and so is the Maya of this world. This is making us forget the gurus hukam - to not have alcohol and intoxicants
There are numerous reasons for this, ie lack of education, faith etc.
But this is a game of love, we should never think lowly of people who do.
Guru Gobind Singh Ji doesn't like the person but he loves them for their rehit. The more inline we are with their hukam & rehit then they are pleased.

WJKK WJKF , Why do we touch the floor during the Ardas? In the gurdwara we mata tek during the ardas (im assuming that's because Guru Granth Sahib Ji is present) when we are outside we touch the floor ? Do we have to do this? Thanks in advance

WJKK WJKF! Vaheguru is present everywhere and we do Ardas outside without Maharaj Parkash we touch floor for the dust of the Sangat. It comes again and again in Gurbani about getting the dust of the feet of saints.

Vjkk Vjkf You have mentioned many techniques of Amrit vela. With gurus kirpa I will try it. Any tips for new parents. I have a 6 month old baby and she wakes up throughout the night. So it makes it difficult to wake up during Amrit vela.

vaheguru..... with parents its a whole different ball game.
You just gotta beg the baby to let you have a nice Amrit vela but if you can't then do Ardas and ask for forgiveness and do it when you can.
Children at such a young age are difficult to control, you will need to wait until the child is in a routine then you can work your Amrit vela around them.
But as I said do the best you can for now Ji.

Wjkkwjkf. Bhai Ji I was asked by a non Sikh on why don't we trim our hair, their argument was that the end of the hair is already dead just like dead nails we cut, why can't Sikhs trim their hair. Silly question but for sake of argument I want to clarify.

Vjkk vjkfateh, hair has more benefits that's meets the eye.
firstly I will give you reason why we truly don't keep our hair... because its hukam not to. For a sikh of the guru that is the only reason we need.
secondly, hair has been proven to be a living tissue and functioning to be a vital entity. It is alive in its entire length and id dead only when it falls off.
thirdly, It is important for absorbing solar energy as it has pigments called melanin which absorb ultraviolet rays from the blight spectrum which cause special photosynthetic chemical developments in the hair cells. Also the skin provides a precursor to vitamin D which is decomposed and reassimilated in hair cells via these solar rays.
fourthly, vaheguru created us as we are.... no need to change what he made, otherwise we are calling his creation imperfect.
there's loads more that could be said but it will be a bit too long.

Can sikh donate blood to people who need it?

Hanji. I would personally.
It has the potential to help so many people.

Veerji, I am a heavy sleeper. This has caused my parents to come to my room and ask me a question like "Do you want to go to the gurdwara?" and I am still sleeping but I say no. This has caused me to miss out on many opportunities and this happens very frequently. How do I fix this issue?

Vjkk vjkfateh,
you are lucky your parents actually ask you and want you to go.
Firstly you will need go work out how long you sleep for. the maximum sleep you need is 6 hours..... I would aim for 5 hours.
to achieve this you need to do it in small steps, so wake up 5 mins earlier everyday and ask your parents to come wake you up and force you out of your bed no matter what. Also have numerous alarms on.
secondly, you need to look at when you sleep, sleeping very late I.e. later than 11 will make it difficult and nearly impossible to wake up at Amrit vela.
Thirdly we need to look at diet, and what you eat and when your last meal is. Try to stop eating 3 hours before sleep Ji.
fourthly you need to Ardas to vaheguru, and ask to be woken up and ask for that help; have faith.
finally, you need to put in more effort yourself and be organised. its not going to be easy but we have to put effort in to see results. If we take one step to the guru they will take so many more towards us.

What do you have to say on increasing radicalism on online forums where sikhs are terming each other as nangs, hindu yogi, rss, manmukh, anti-panthic just because if there is disagreement. I read a disturbing comment on forum where someone already converted from sikhi was called sell out, bemukh.

don't get involved... keyboard hero's

whats your opinion of sikhs who drink and eat meat?

I'm a moorakh... my opinions nothing.

"If one's clothes are stained with blood, the garment becomes polluted. Those who drink the blood of others - how can those people's consciousness be pure?"
sikh rehit maryada says no to alcohol completely Ji.
but the people who consume these can still be compassionate etc. their not bad people but engulfed in the illusion.

Guru sahib has there hand over you and all the basics of sikhi group. This page has helped me alot with all the different questions and answers on here. I would just like to say thank you and well done. May guru sahib continue to bless u with his grace. Big love to you guys wjkk wjkf

My mom respects all religons but on the other hand my dad only respects guru ji and that troubles my mom because my mom does go to the mandir once in a while but my dad hates that. I told him that Guru Nanak dve ji was a hindu and he said sikh`s gave up so much sacrifices for us. So what do I do

Vjkk vjkfateh,
there's a difference between having respect for a religion and having your feet in two boats.
sikhi and Hinduism is different and times will come when you will have to choose one over the other.... which one will you choose ? for example in the case of divali and bandi chor which fall on the same day.
Guru Nanak was born a Hindu but he wasn't a Hindu.... he created a new religion. The key word in the sentence before is the word was.
I would have to agree with your dad on this one.... don't put your chocolate eggs in many baskets but only in one :)

VJKK VJKF! This is a follow up to the question regarding reading Sikh history. I would like sources for both English and Punjabi since I am going to learn Gurmukhi anyway!

gurmatveechar has a number of documents.
if your just starting up I would recommend puran singhs 10 masters, then spirtual born people.
Also manmukh to gurmukh about Bhai Rama Singh is a eye opener and enjoying read.

'Charitropakhyan', from dasam granth, is described as explicit. Why did Guru Gobind Singh Ji write this

Vjkk vjkfateh, I don't know the gurus plans or games.
but if we didn't talk about explicit things... which are part of this world then we would be living in illusion ourselves.
We need to learn to live in this world like the lotus flower in the murky water. remain distinct and different yet still give out a distinct fragrance.
I would say don't doubt it, do Ardas to guru Ji if you question it and say, ' My mind doesn't let me understand you game but please keep me on the path and help me understand' then leave it and they will show you when your ready.

Why do Sikh girls just want to get drunk and go out with kaley and gorey? See this so much.

Vjkk vjkfateh,
kal yug and the illusion of this world Ji. There's nothing wrong with different colour skinned people but as a sikh we should intend to make relations with those who are on the same path and when we are ready to get married.
Its not just one problem but a number and with each particular person it will be a combination of reasons.
