VJKK VJKF, following the birth of our child I have been struggling with my morning nitnem. Sometime I force myself up but keep falling asleep during but sometimes I get up late and start around 7 or 8 and don't feel sleepy but guilt that I missed the amritvela timing.

VJKK VJKF! It can be very difficult to do Nitnem when you're living a family life, try do it as a family but don't kill yourself as Guru is understanding. You may have to just squeeze in Nitnem whenever you have time, maybe do it a bit later ji.

WJKK WJKF. My dad recently passed away. He was amritdhari and a religious simple man. Us siblings arrangements his funeral but when we got home the elders that the funeral should not be done on a even day or on the 10th day. To me all days are God's days. Please advise what Sikhi says.

That's a ritual, you can do funeral whenever ji.

Where does it say in SGGS that dasam duar is a spot at the top of your head?

The Lord placed the soul to the cave of the body, and blew the breath of life into the musical instrument of the body. He blew the breath of life into the musical instrument of the body, and revealed the nine doors; but He kept the Tenth Door hidden. Through the Gurdwara, the Guru’s Gate, some are blessed with loving faith, and the Tenth Door is revealed to them. There are many images of the Lord, and the nine treasures of the Naam; His limits cannot be found. Says Nanak, the Lord placed the soul to the cave of the body, and blew the breath of life into the musical instrument of the body. ||38||

I was told not to read baani from SGGS ji at the main parkash asthaan at our gurdwara in riverside, calif, (even during off-sangat-hours and just because I cut my hairs,) as this is against maryada. Although i followed what a granthi would be doing reading paath. Please guide?

Guru Granth Sahib Jee Maharaj is the king of all kings and sitting on the Tabaya behind Maharaj is a big thing. You will be on show to the Sangat and they will see you before Matha Tekking before Maharaj. The reason a Gursikh should do Kirtan/Katha/Chaur Sahib/ Granthi Seva is because people should be inspired by seeing them. I'm not saying your not inspirational but it's part of Maryada, just accept Guru's Hukam.

What is the correct way to refer to a page from Sri Guru Granth Sahib? Some people say Panna, others say Safaa, others say Ang.

Ang - (means limb).

Is it true that Guru Gobind Singh stated to a Sikh who was mispronouncing bani that "Why are you breaking my arms and legs?"

Not sure if Guruji said those exact words but something along those lines and Guruji hit the Sikh for disrespecting Bani as it changed meaning.

I feel I need bani very much to keep me from straying into kaam, krodh, lobh, moh and ahankar, it keeps my focus and feels like a blanket of protection is over me. Is it ok to listen to Nitnem bani's several times on mp3 during the day?

HANJI - OF COURSE!

why do we need to sit outside when hukamnama/ardaas is going on inside gurudwara..?

It's just Satkaar (respect) - Hukamnama is when Guru talks and gives an order, it would be disrespectful to walk up to Guruji while their addressing Sangat.

I practice sikhi not the best but I've got into it thanks to You guys and do Kirtan sohila at night & ardaas during the day but nothing positive ever happens in my life especially as I just got my Uni results today... Some people do nothing and just living that good life I don't see how? Kismat...?

That's kirpa ji. Don't think we will start getting blessings straight away when we start living Gursikhi. We have many Karam from past lives to destroy.
When you talk about 'good life' - those people that are stuck in worldly affairs aren't truly happy as they wont be fulfilled, there will always be that God hole inside them that can only be filled by Naam.
Keep going with your Sikhi and thank Vaheguru if he blesses you or not. It will come in time ji.

I want to start Nitnem, but I am finding it hard to wake up. I need help.

Do Ardaas, start easy and build up. Maybe wake up at 6 and then work back 10mins every week. Start with Japji Sahib in morning if you cant read Gurbani then listen to Japji Sahib and keep your Nitnem going.

I feel like I'm completely controlled my Kaam, if I do aardas can guru ji help me fight not only Kaam but all the 5 thieves

Guru Sahib can completely destroy all 5 but sometimes we're tested.

someone said guru nanak met kaljug when he was holding his genetalia please explain?

Hanji Kaljug came in a physical form as a sort of demon and bowed before Guru Nanak Dev Ji. He held private parts in one hand and tongue in other and proclaimed that he will be most powerful in these.

WJKK WJKF I've just completed watching the Basics playlist (loved it, btw :) Which playlist should I watch next ? I can't decide..

VJKK VJKF! Would recommend the Japji Sahib playlist also you may find FAQ'S interesting too.

Why do people believe the Dasam Granth Sahib is not written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji?

Its Kaljug ! Just because people cant understand Bani they don't see it as Bani, then we could start saying that for Bani in Guru Granth Sahib Ji! Ultimate beadbi to reject Guru's Bani!

How would you explain what a raag is to a non-Sikh? Would you explain it as being a "chapter" or something similar to that?

Raag is music for the soul (actually higher than music - Dhur Ki Bani), meant to be sung and when played with instruments you can make one experience different emotions depending on Raag being played.

If we dont work hard Vaheguru wouldnt give us what we want right. like for an exam, we dont put effort, even Vaheguru can't help us right?

We have to put effort in and then Vaheguru will help.

If you committed a bujjar kurehit as a teenage but have very little memory of it and are now following a strict rehat with lots of naam Simran should you still go talk to the panj? Would guru ji hold it against you or forgive for an old mistake?

If one commits a Bujjar Kurehat then its a MUST to see Panj Pyare as they are the form of Guru and they can forgive. If we don't own up in front of Panj Pyare then we'll be owning up in front of Dharam Raaj!
