why did all the other 9 gurus keep their kes even though it was only introduced by Guru Gobind Singh jee in 1699?

the gurus were from the same jot (light) so each subsequent guru had the same light.

I have decided to take Amrit soon but my mind is scared. I know life will change, maybe it's the mind/ego that is bringing this reluctance and hesitation. Should I still go ahead?

when taking Amrit the answers u need to be sure of are...am I willing to die for my guru. really ask ur self this. only u know this answer you don't need to ask anyone. sit in a quite room. and imagine a life with everything u have but without Guru. then think of a life without everything knowing guru is over ur head. what do u need/want ji

You know how most music other than kirtan will pollute your mind, what about music from like immortal productions

anything listen to we must always b alert that it matches Gurus message. we are all imperfect and each of us is learning to become like guru. take everything with caution n see if the message matches Gurus message. don't forget Guru sahib did have dhadi jathas who would sing n it wasn't always gurbani but it was messages promoting gurus message Ji

I know I'm a sikh but I was told because I don't know punjabi I'm not punjabi.. Plus, it's hard learning it as I'm not surrounded by people who speak it.. What do I do?

come to a class and learn. you'll meet others who can speak it and they may become your sangat. check ur local Gurdwara where they teach. please see basics of sikhi YouTube videos where there are easy to follow lessons n u can learn. also its a hukam from guru for every sikh to learn. gurbani in pure form is a must for every sikh to learn Ji Smethwick Gurdwara every Wednesday there are classes starting this Wednesday till 30th July for complet beginners 6.30pm to 8pm

(1 of 2) Veerji, This school year, I went through depression and my grades started to fall. My parents denied that I had depression but luckily I got over it. My parents got very mad about my grades and they started comparing me to my friends and said I was worthless. I tried to tell them that

also I'll add the concept of fear Bhai sahib:
Are aim as the khalsa is to become fearless (nirbhao). Normally to do this we need to slowly sensitise ourselves to the stimulus which is causing this problem. find a situation that your uncomfortable with and try to deal with it once you become comfortable then move on gradually till you reach that stimulus which causes the most fear.
We can only grow when we are uncomfortable. Everybody will have challenges in their lives but with each one we need to move forward and overcome it....that is true chardi kala

(2 of 2) guruji has blessed me with other qualities such as I enjoy woodworking etc. They are totally against this and are calling me unkind things and want me to only focus on school for the rest of my life. Because, of this, I am not allowed to do any extracurricular activities. What do I do?

This path was never meant to be easy it's thinner than a strand of hair & sharper than the edge of a sword but it's straight & simple. 'Sir deejai Kaan n keejai'. Give your head (surrender to the Guru not Pakhand of the world).
I go to university myself and I had to do a lot of extracurricular activities to actually get into uni. Its literally a criteria these days to get into uni so you basically need to do them. Everyone does the same things but if you could do something distinct & different like gatkha (sikh marital art) then unis look more favourably on them.
kiv sachiareea hoii kiv koorhai tuttai papal? ( how can we see past this illusion?)
hukmee rajaa chalna Nanak likliaa naal
the above reply translates as o Nanak follow his hukam. His hukam is what will lead us to be one with him.... the world hasn't become one with him and when we do something to walk towards the guru the world will try hold us back but remember the words of Guru Gobind Singh Ji 'until the Khalsa remains distinct, I will give them all my power & radiance'.
Therefore go from what your inside is saying, connect to that inner self and see what its saying... if its saying listen to the guru and follow woodwork then go for it...but don't have expectations. These tests come to us to see where we are with our faith and how much we have given ourselves to the guru. However we need to still show love to our parents because they may not understand where you are coming from and with it we need to show love and compassion as we explain to then the gurus teachings.
finally do Ardas to maharaj and jaap naam ....

My mother says not to eat meat or drink alcohol on Sundays or something bad will happen to someone in our family. Is there any truth to this?

that's a great logic you shouldn't eat meat or drink everyday by that then..... what's special about a Sunday Lol.
everyday moment and every millisecond is so important. Sunday isn't some religious day...everyday is

When a Hukamana is given to you at birth for your name, is there any other spiritual purpose of the Hukamnama. Like other than naming, what else does this hukam supposed to mean?

Personal life message.

Vjkk Vjkf! is it better to watch a katha - for example on youtube - on your own or with others? sometimes i feel like the others arent paying attention as they keep on talking over it and its frustrating but i heard that sangat helps Vjkk Vjkf!

VJKK VJKF! That's a big Seva getting others to listen to Katha but sometimes if you want to gain the maximum benefit then it's best on own.

I wanted to go vegetarian. .. n tried for a while but it didn't work out for me. But now I've decided to be vegi om a Sunday in anticipation of one day being fully vegetarian or taking amrit. Is it ok to do one day vegi? Alot of ppl say its not in our sikhi to do this?

A lot of people don't eat meat on Sunday as a ritual, but if you're working to cut eating meat altogether its fine ji. For some people it works best to stop at once which I'd recommend, and if gets tempting then eat veggie meat. If that doesn't work out then start with not eating meat once a week and increase to two and so on. Don't leave the gap between increasing too long as you could drop it any time. Do Ardaas for Guru's Kirpa.

My kirpan won't open, what should I do?

Definitely sort it out, what use is Kirpan if we cant even open it. Either try to remove rust if it's got rusted by soaking in water with acid such as vinegar. If that doesn't work get a new Kirpan, and make sure to keep it in good condition - check regularly, sharpen if needs be. We should respect Shastar as it's Guru's own form.

Sometimes when I'm doing simran or remembering vaheguru I get really emotional and sometimes even start to cry, Is this normal?

yep, enjoy it and do even more of what your doing :)
share it with me :p

You know how after you die, you either go to Waheguru or you get reincarnated. But what about ghosts? Why are those souls just wondering around?

Ghosts had an attachment in this world I.e. their home. Therefore they are trapped in the home that they were in love for... watching families move in and die continuously. Even when the house is broken down they are still stuck in the location of the hold home.
They also remain like this for thousands of years.

Is it okay to do salok and ardaas after 26 pauria because I haven't finished learning the full japji sahib

Only 12 more Pauriya! Hanji you can do that if you don't know the rest but maybe just put rest on from tape - only an extra 5mins and you can do a full Japji Sahib...

I'm a bibi and wear a patka so how should I look after my kirpan when having an ishnaan? As most people tie it round their dastaar?

You can tie gatra around head and tuck in jee.

If you are an atheist and you join in with simran at camps you go to would this still count ?

yep..... but simran is saying vaheguru (gods name). say it with your mouth and listen with your mind without your thoughts interrupting
