Did you have any Chicago style pizza when you were at Frostys?

Of course! Each Chicago tournament has involved one meal where I enthusiastically fuck up a chicago style deep dish pizza, and then I never want to see it again and it's all anyone can get.

Xrd. So what's the deal with Faust? Reach? Normals? See people saying he is quite strong, but I don't get where is the strength in a character with random elements.

I haven't played much Faust myself, but the randomness in his item toss actually isn't that random -- sure, you might throw different things, but each thing he throws is designed to control space and force a reaction out of your opponent. Sometimes it does this through a reward (heal) other times it does it through an attack. The trick is to understand what each item means when it's on the way up, and press your attack accordingly on its way down.
Basically, Faust's randomness is a way of balancing his incredibly vast possibility space; a good Faust player is constantly observing the situation and figuring out whether it's a good idea or a bad idea to throw an item given possible followups/space control/etc. He's kind of like Eddie in that his possibility space is higher than most other characters', but where Eddie is balanced by execution, Faust is balanced by mental complexity.

Chili: Beans or no beans?

Both are good!
No-bean chili is perfect for toppings or as a side to a larger meal. I got some no-bean chili my roommate made that I am gonna put on some tater tots and I am hella excited about that.
Beaned chili I usually eat over rice, or by itself.

Why do scrubs complain about fellow scrubs doing stupid punishable shit as "Why should I have to learn how to beat scrubs?" Is that why they're scrubs too?

You don't deserve to play good street fighter. You have to earn it by being able to beat bad players, and you're not good until you can do that.

do you believe in evolution?

Seems to me that it's the best way of describing how things came to be where they are now.

How do you feel about pop music seeping into hip hop or in general leaving its roots and becoming more 'mainstream'? Is it fine for the genre to expand and open up, or even if it isn't fine is it inevitable?

Hip hop is a method applied to life; life includes pop music. I adore both for what they are and I don't think we lose anything in the crossover (which is not new, btw).

Dear Pat, How easy is it to transition to another character in Street Fighter if you start your foundation by learning Ryu?

Pretty easy! Ryu basically has a little bit of everything, so you should be able to look at any character and think, "oh, her tools are like a better version of ryu's in this particular range, I just need to focus on this." But, this also comes with practice and time; a new ryu player won't be able to do this as quickly.

Is it possible to meet a complete stranger, play someone in RockPaperScissors once, see what they do, and regardless of who won and who lost, tell what they will pick next time and win? If not, then how many times do you need to play someone to read what they will do? How many times is optimal?

When it comes to RPS, I personally try and play pretty close to random instead of going for reads, because I don't find the mental cost of yomi layers to be worthwhile in this game. So it might be possible, but I don't know what that would look like.

Friend of mine is getting salty about normals clashing with overdrives in Xrd. Don't know what his exact example is but you got any design talk on that?

You spend meter in Xrd to get things you wouldn't otherwise get: safety, pressure, damage. Overdrives cost meter because they're high damage and not burstable, not because they automatically beat everything.
Also this is hilarious.

I'm a short fat introvert nerd with no friends who thinks he's good at fighting games but sucks at it and is fucking trash at everything else. Should I just kill myself because I'm useless and have no skills that would contribute to any worth in the real world?

Funny you ask this - my dad told me over the holidays that he'll be impressed with me when I start contributing something of value to the world. So perhaps I'm in a similar boat as you in this regard!
It sounds to me like you don't have a whole lot of confidence in your value as a person; that might be connected to what you do and what you're good at, or it might not be. I'm convinced that the things I do help people become better versions of themselves, because that's what fighting games did for me, and that conviction makes everything I do feel rewarding and worthwhile -- no matter what my dad tells me.
But I don't think it's the objective standalone merit of the work itself that motivates me, I think it's that I am addicted to the process of self improvement -- the IRL level grind. And that is only rewarding when you see yourself as someone worth improving, and from your tone it seems like you might not think that's the case. If that's what's going on, I don't really know how to fix that, but I don't think fighting games alone will do that for you.
Also, as a side note: I think fighting games, and just about everything else in life, are healthiest and most useful when they're not the only thing you value about yourself. I take fighting games seriously, but I also do lots of other stuff, and that broad base helps me weather the disappointing moments.

On a scale of George Lucas to Quentin Tarantino, how bloody do you like your action movies?

I don't mind it but I don't go out of my way for it. Ever since Mortal Kombat, blood and guts haven't really done anything for me.

What profession are you most polite towards the members of? Least polite?

That's a good question! I try to be Extra Nice Guy to anyone working in customer-facing or custodial jobs, but I got special love for delivery people because they brave the night to bring me food.

Can I set up a kickstarter to get your legs back from Nerdjosh's stream?

Thanks to the magic of green screen technology, my legs come back whenever my pants come off.
I find the idea of a Kickstarter to take my pants off highly appealing. Go for it.
