Trying to get my girlfriend into UMVC3. What's a good starter team?

Hulk/Haggar/Sentinel if you just want a starter team with satisfying buttons.
If your girlfriend has prior competitive fighting game experience, Magneto/Doom/Sentinel (cribbing Viscant's rec, here) is a great way to learn the systems and general competitive landscape.

What does it mean if I enjoy the "sexist humor" in stuff. Like, I giggled when Star-Lord forgot about the girl in his ship and couldn't remember her name, and I kinda went "yeah!" when he called Ronan "bitch" at the end.

It means you're a terrible person.
Just kidding. It means that you enjoy problematic stuff. Which is understandable, because we all have some problematic shit we find funny or entertaining or sexy or what have you. But you owe it to yourself to ponder why you find it funny and see if there's any fucked-up reasons why you find it funny.
And mind that humor by itself isn't problematic because of X or Y topic, but because of said topic's dependence on a trope or social common sense that is part of a larger narrative that fucks over real people. Part of the reason the "bitch" worked the way it did was because it accentuated the ludicrous nature of that scene; that said, they could have used a word that wasn't frequently used to dismiss or denigrate plenty of women close to you and gotten the same effect.

when i'm on a date and i'm doing footsies should they get what's going on? That's not what footsies is about?

Remember, footsies escalates in stages. You can't utilize your full footsies game until they start trying to play along too. You want to lead, not follow, but if you get too far ahead they'll just stop playing.
Stick to medium kick until they start counterpoking with their own medium kick, then chuck a few fireballs over that medium kick, and get ready to DP the jump-in.
(I'm bad at flirting.)

I have a girlfriend how do I get her to like me

Meaty fierce dragon punch.
You deserve better than a girlfriend that doesn't like you. =/

Weirdest thing you saw at Evo 2014? For me I think it was a dude with a house arrest ankle bracelet on

I can't say I remember anything that weird, though that probably just means I'm jaded.

Have you ever been criticized for receiving praise or acclaim that the critic felt was undeserved?

Probably, but not to my face. And really, I can't say I'm publicly praised that much. I try to be a guy that does his best work behind the scenes. Very rarely do I do anything worth mentioning in public.
Closest thing I can think of was that a handful of people didn't like the approach I took in From Masher to Master. Some of that feedback was useful! The rest of 'em can go write their own book and show me how it's done.

a friend and I are about to get our first sticks! and though right now we're just playing street fighter, I'm definitely planning to branch out. are there certain really great games that are platform-specific? am I missing out by picking one console over another? (I have most major consoles btw)

If you're a newbie, I'd say just figure out a) what your friends want to play and b) what your local community plays and go from there.
In general, PS3 tends to get more fighting games (especially a lot of the really Japan-specific stuff) but online multiplayer can be a mixed bag. Too early to see at what point serious XB1/PS4 exclusives become a thing, or what the dominant platform is for tournament competition.

How do you feel about giving someone FG instruction at locals? Awesome opportunity, kind of condescending, both, or neither?

Personally, I'm always happy to give and receive advice, and tournaments are no exception. I'll give my opponent advice, sometimes! I'll even give them advice to get in their head -- I often go for Ryu's meaty toward + MP overhead if it'll end the round, and if it gets them 2-3 times I'll tell them what I'm doing, and then go low. Heh.

You are in charge of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot, but corporate has mandated that you rename the Turtles after contemporary artists. Which ones do you choose?

I'd probably name them after assorted members of the Wu-Tang Clan.

Have you ever grown a beard?

Noooope. I only have to shave, like, twice a week? I get most of my body hair genes from my mom's side of the family, and Filipinos aren't very hairy people in general from what I can tell. No chest hair, very little facial hair. My uncle doesn't even have armpit hair. o_O

What is your favorite conspiracy theory, if any?

...Are you the same person who asked me about chemtrails?
I don't really fuck with conspiracy theories. Weirdly enough, I hold many beliefs others consider hugely cynical (I don't think they are), but I tend to be fairly relaxed and positive in my interactions with other people. Conspiracy theories are for people who have the time or energy to be scared of shit outside their control, I think.
They sure are fun, though. Makes me wish I could play Deus Ex for the first time again.

How would have FGs changed if daigo had dropped the parry?

This is some Back to the Future shit right here.
Whenever any '09ers bring up the Daigo Parry, I'm tempted to interject with some "You weren't there, man" stuff. I like to joke that being there for the Daigo Parry is the fighting game equivalent of shaking Sinatra's hand from Ocean's Thirteen. That moment clearly means a lot to me; I was there as a fresh-faced 19-year-old, and ten years later, my career is inextricable from competitive games.
But you know what? I don't think shit would be markedly different if he had dropped it. And here's why:
Amazing shit happens at Evo ALL THE TIME. My first Evo Moment was watching SooMighty destroy Justin in the EC/WC MVC2 tournament the year before. If it wasn't the full parry, it would have been something else.

What if Daigo dropped the full parry on Justin? Would he have the same level of infamy as he has now?

Perhaps not the same level, but dude was a legend long before Evo Moment #37.

Okay so your fighting game guide is great and all, but when is the guide on Nanaca Crash?

You want my elite Nanaca Crash tech? Here it is: The Educated Videogame Enthusiast's Guide to Nanaca Crash.
-Start at a low angle (like 10 degrees) at max velocity so you can just go straight into the first person you see at max velocity because why the fuck not. If it's a bad person (slow, block, angle up, or Stop Girl) you'll probably get a game over pretty quickly and just start again without wasting time on a suboptimal run. If it's a good person, you'll get a nice boost in the start of the game.
-Use your up-boost when:
1) When you're coming on the tail end of a SPECIAL (ideally before you hit the ground for the first time), and you're working on a high score or close to it.
2) If you're about to die, and you're either working on a high score or you're close to beating it.
See, boosts after hitting a SPECIAL are way, way better than when you're just at normal velocity, so you really want to save your up boosts for these times. After you get a high enough score, though, it's not worth it to burn all three boosts on your first SPECIAL -- you want to wait and see if you can get three or four before using them.
Basically, up-boosts are the one tool you have to make sure that you break a high score given a promising enough start. If your high score is 10k, wait until 8k or so to consider using them; if it's 15k, wait until your run breaks 12k or whatever, and so on.
-Use your down-boost to spike into good people. Pay attention to who's lit up on the SPECIAL meter and when Stop Girl is on there, go HAM with the down-boost because getting her special alone can put you in high score contention early on. And use the down-boost often -- be aggressive with it because it's the only control you have over who you hit.
Basically, you want to take risks to make for a really big score instead of just prolonging each game by 5 minutes just because you can.

So I just realized my EVO question from the other day could have been better worded. I was asking what games would be main tournaments, not who would do well at any particular game.

Oh hey, I totally missed that. My guesses: USF4, Marvel, Smash 4, Guilty Gear, MKX, KI, BlazBlue, and uhhhh Tekken 7 probably won't be ready by then but I'll guess it because why not.

What is the nerdiest accessory or clothing you have worn in public, outside of a convention setting?

I have a good amount of nerdy stuff!
If we're talking cringe-nerdy:
I used to wear those dorky anime dragon t-shirts when I was in high school. Had a DBZ shirt that was cut like a baseball jersey. Sometimes I'd wear Gundam Wing t-shirts underneath them. It was pretty terrible, but everyone is in high school. Also I own a beanie with the konoha forehead protector (metal) but I've never had the nerve to wear it.
If we're talking nerdy-cool:
Most of my regular t-shirt rotation comes from video games (or MMA/BJJ, though most of those I have gradually rotated out). I have a t-shirt that's just the Earthbound Starman sprite, a whole bunch of fighting game shirts, and probably some other stuff too (the Halo 4 t-shirt from E3 two years ago was pretty cool).
Also, I've dressed up as Ryu for a few Halloweens by now.

A wrestling move has been named after you! What kind of move is it?

The Patriangle Choke. Pull guard, throw up a triangle choke, tap you out, and then smile at you and tell you that you did really well, just gotta watch out for that next time.

How do I find out what kind of playstyle fits me? I know part of the answer is just try out a bunch of different characters, but I feel like I don't completely understand fighting games enough to grasp the concept of "zoning" or "pressure" characters. I read your book, but I still don't get it all

"Trying out a bunch of different characters" is definitely the most important part.
Ultimately, the question you're asking yourself is basically, "Where on the screen do I want to be in order to win"? Do you want to be far away and pushing them out, or closing the distance to get up close? But that question by itself doesn't really tell us a whole lot if you haven't at least tried out each character's basics to see what they can do and how they feel.
