how would you start to ask a horse to come on the bit?
start off getting them to work long and low, and always ride forward making sure the back end is engaged, the rest will come when you have an engine the back end working properly :)

You said that a horse you rode the other day was stiff in his sacroiliac joint... how can you unstiffen a joint through riding?
well the sacroiliac joint is between the hips of the horse and most horses are probably tight through their s-joints because the rider doesn't move with the motion of the horses hips. so in order to unstiffen it, you need to follow the horses rhythm and move your hips in time with theirs in the same motion

well i'm not saying it will work for all horses, they are individuals, just like us :)
but if you think about it, when a horse tanks off, they galloping because they are pulling against the weight in their mouth or on their nose. if that weight is taken away, what do they have left to pull against? absolutely nada. so really, they are running for no reason whatsoever then, and they usually stop. however, you have to be very balanced sit very still to remind the horse that you aren't scared and you're still with them :)

How did you stop Bonnie tanking off? My horse always does it to me and it's so scary :|
i dont think i ever 'stopped' her, shes still definitely got the potential to piss off when she wants to but when she shoots forward she slows down the minute she's told to, although she doesn't when other people ride her haha. but i realised that pulling her wasnt working because she would pull back twice as hard and i would never ever ever ever be stronger than her, circling her wasnt working because she had an unusual ability to throw all of her weight into your outside leg and run through it, gradually making the circle bigger until she could just fuck off in a straight line with her head down... so it really was a moment of pure insanity on my behalf where i just dropped my reins onto the buckle, and sat tight waiting for her to stop, and it worked :) so that's how i stop bons, just loosening the reins right off so there is no contact whatsoever haha, but it doesnt seem to work for other people riding her :S
My horse always tries to bite me when I do his rugs up and put them on, What can I do?
hahah i know so many ponies/horses like this :) first off, i would say that you need to make sure you're not doing anything that's pissing them off because roxy bites when you pull the rug forwards because it ruffles her hair around a bit and shes sooo irritable about stuff like that, so now i put the rug on too far up her neck to start with and then pull it back once i've done the front up so she has no excuse to be rude.. so if she tries to bite me when im doing it like that, i give her a light slap on the mouth to make her move her head away :) then she gets patted when shes good. make sure you're being fair because if something is making them uncomfortable, biting or being 'naughty' is the only way they'll get your attention
how often do u lunge, jump, hack and school
mostly i hack and school, i rarely jump and roxy HATES being lunged and tends to spend her time attempting to kick me on the lunge so yeah :P
