well without seeing the horse there isn't much i can say really. but personally i wouldnt change the bit, nor would i use draw reins, i dont really give a fuck if the rider is experienced or not, you should be able to ride your horse forward onto the bit without pinning it's head to it's chest. plus if youre horse is young it will learn to rely on the draw reins and still go crappy without them so i would just focus on getting your horse to work through it's quarters, use it's back and learn to go long and low and then work from there to get your horse into a correct frame x
