well i personally dont feel comfortable asking a horse to come in a higher, rounder shape if they can't work long and low. to be honest, long and low is really good because it teaches horses to balance and use themselves, which sets them up for later work where they have a higher shape. you just have to be careful that your horse isnt just poodling around on the forehand, they actually have to be working forward even with long and low x

well you'd want the horse working from behind, engaging its hocks as obviously that's where the power will be coming from to do the jumping, but you want their head raised a bit and in a position where the horse can comfortably see the jumps so they can judge their stride etc, also letting them have more freedom over where their head is means that they have their head and neck to balance themselves if they get into any sticky situations
