I still get confused with 'barely'. what does it mean? and how to use it in sentence
"Barely" means only just, almost not, scarcely. Here are some examples:
- Peter barely finished the level before time ran out. (He almost didn't finish in time.)
- They had barely enough cash to pay for the meal. (They almost didn't have enough cash.)
- Because it was so noisy, I could barely hear the teacher.
"Barely" can also mean in a sparse way, e.g., The hotel had a barely furnished room available for $50 a night. (The room was almost empty.)
