How can we know when to pronounce 'A' as in /ə/ or /eɪ /. For example I have a book. So, I have /eɪ/ book or I have /ə/ book?
99% of the time, "a" is pronounced /ə/. The 1% when it's /eɪ/ is when you're talking about the letter (e.g., "Is there an a /eɪ/ in 'definitely'?") or when you want to emphasize that you have only one of something, e.g., "I have a /eɪ/ pencil, so I can't let you borrow mine."
