It is totally okay to chat first, but smart girls do it smoothly. Because girls don't do pdkt, they manipulate circumstances. Cara paling basi sih nanyain tugas, but please do it in more creative way.
But you also need to read his interest. When he seems not intrigued, it's time to back off.

Kak, how to make the chat/conversation with your crush keep going?

1. Do some research, or in simplified words: stalk them and analyze them. Therefore you'll know how to please them with your reply, like replying with their favorite LINE stickers.
2. Always make response-able sentence. You gotta make them keep replying, right? Keep asking them something can be one of the ways.
3. Use your most flawless pic of you as your profile picture.
4. Don't make a mess like: "Have you found your lost watch?" "No. Hey how'd you know that I lost my watch?" "(FUCK, IT'S BECAUSE I FOLLOWED YOU ALL DAY)"

Karena menurut gue rasanya kayak keju, gurihnya creamy. Terus karena gue orangnya rada pemalas, jadi suka sebel kalo pas bikin indomie minyak bumbunya kena tangan waktu dibuka sehingga harus repot-repot cuci tangan. Wadoh gue nggak pernah ngalamin yang begitu sih, tapi kok gue kebayangnya kayak katarak gitu ya? Langsung periksain ke dokter hewan aja sist, mungkin nanti bakal dikasih obat tetes gitu.

I'm a plain basic bitch jadi indomie favorite gue adalah indomie paling basic which is indomie kaldu ayam (yang seasoning-nya cuman serbuk doang ga ada minyak maupun bawang) dan tanpa side dish sama sekali.
Btw ga cuma gue doang kan yang suka indomie kaldu ayam? :"o
