Here's something to put down your thoughts on.
I think the skull mask would be a bit conspicuous. So if Milo sees him and describes him then we’re going to get more details. Something interesting would be if Karl sees him and recognizes him. Henka knows who he is, maybe the reverse is true too.
As for Milo, Observer once left a message for Noah saying a drowning man will grab a snake. He’s 10 years old at this point, he’s dealing with the equivalent of a god, these people are promising him help, and his mommy is telling him they’re cool. He’s basically being indoctrinated. This is a cult after all and his mom is a member.
As for The Order, no cult understands a god. At all. They twist facts and make assumptions and make it their doctrine. And if you disagree then you’re a heretic or they’ll kill you. Or both. Henka clearly has a way with words. And if he didn’t help found this chapter, or even help found The Order itself, then he was absolutely able to talk his way up to elder. Course, since he’s Deadhead he may have seen The Administrator and be put in high regard there.
In regards to Karl, I know it’s easy to dismiss him as a crazy ass, selfish old fuck since he chose to save a book over his wife. Course we know he’s crazy. But keep in mind Henka Visae, a servant of The Administrator, is on this boat. We don’t know what’s in the journal nor do we know why The Administrator wants it so badly. But whatever it is protects Karl from him and may be key to hurting or even killing him. So maybe The Administrator getting this book would cause untold destruction or hell. Maybe Karl chose to sacrifice his wife versus potentially letting it fall into its hands/tentacles. Keep in mind Karl knows what the hell is happening. He’s just crazy and can’t explain.
