I've felt this way about a few films. Alien for example. Good film in every regard. I didn't see anything wrong with it. Didn't have a problem with it. Just...felt eh to me.
The one film I thought of immediately that didn't live up to the hype for me was The Exorcist. Fantastic movie. I've seen it multiple times. But nothing scared me. Hell, I was impressed by the visuals more than I was scared. So I can see what he's talking about.
I've seen films that people loved that I've flat out hated (Fifty Shades. It was a bet. Don't judge me.) but for most of them I've had my reasons (over 70 text messages to the person who bet me of reasons). And I've also loved movies that people don't care for (The Star Wars Prequels).
There are some movies that despite the fact they're good movies and deserve all the credit they get they just don't have that affect on you. Maybe you aren't interested. Or like with me and The Exorcist maybe it just didn't live up to the hype. Course, I watched it like 40 years after it was released. So back then it probably was scary as shit back then.
Maybe that's what it is. Just a lack of interest. Actually, I just thought of this, I have the exact same thing in regards to a renowned TV show. The Walking Dead. I watched about three episodes and just couldn't get into it. I have nothing negative to say about it whatsoever. Hell I've even recommended it to a couple of people if it interests them. But I just can't get into it.
