Hi! Do you have any suggestions for a good rock audition song for a female? (For Jesus Christ Superstar?)

Just look at some good pop-rock musicals.
Joseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat
And anything upbeat that fits the material!

Audition songs for damn Yankees? And Tarzan? Both male

Look at my last post for Tarzan and I'm not really that familiar with the other one

Good song auditioning for Tarzan in Tarzan?

Something Disney! I would suggest something from lion king or maybe even under the sea from little mermaid

What are you're favourite dramatic monologues for auditions? :-)

Well there not very dramatic (well kinda depending in how you act it) but I really like to use monologues from alice in wonderland!

Any advice for singing a solo for the first time? I have to do one Saturday and I'm really nervous. It's not long but I've never done it before...

Take a deep breath, make sure you're prepared, and know that if you have the opportunity to sing a solo, you are good enough to do it!

I sing soprano 2 in choir, but I can also hit some pretty low notes. I can hit pretty high ones too. I have a little trouble staying in head voice for a long time. I'm not sure if I would call myself soprano or mezzo. I can hit high-ish notes, but not crazy high notes. Why do you think?

I would think that you are a mezzo-soprano. Which is pretty much the same as soprano 2. This is the range I am in. I can sing alto and soprano. I can hit crazy high notes every now and then but it is not consistent so I'm not really soprano 1 but I do consistently sing higher than Alto's this is a good range to be in A LOT of musical theatre singers are in this range.

I need to pick a Christmas carol for an audition, I'm a mezzo soprano. I'm thinking We Three Kings!

That sounds good you could also try joy to the world or Mary did you know!

help! if i'm auditioning for a part with an accent should i do the accent in the audition? i know normally you're not supposed to but it is written in broken english so it would be weird not to. and it would set me apart from others. opinions?

If you do make sure you tell the directors that you are using an accent. If you don't then they won't know if you are using an accent, have trouble reading, or have a speech impediment. I have made this mistake before!!! Usually they will let you know if they would like you to use an accent though.

What are some good audition songs for Tracy from Hairsray?

Suddenly Seymour,or maybe something from footloose?

What scene were you an extra in for Jackie Robinson? I actually went to see it for a school trip ^^

Actually, I haven't seen the movie yet so I'm not sure exactly where the scene I was in worked into the story. But I was a spectator at one of the dodgers home games.

I have an audition coming up for a straight play, and I was wondering if you have any advice about cold reading. The play is a comedy written by our director. :)

Be flexible with it and try to think of another piece it is similar to and act it out in a similar way. Since it is a cold reading you will probably need to look at the script some but try not to stare down at it the whole time!

Good songs for Lucy or Kendra in 13: The Musical?

You can try: Notice me Horton, pulled, or new girl in town

If I wanted to sing You Can't Get A Man with A Gun from Annie Get Your Gun for an audition, would I have to use the accent?

Not unless the show you were auditioning for required the accent

I'm a female alto auditioning for Willy Wonka the musical. Do u have any suggestions for songs?

Try a song from Charlie Brown, seussical, or some other slightly wacky children's show!

Any character, soprano

Look at songs from hairspray, little shop of horrors, rock of ages, anything similar to the 80's style!

Ok, what I don't understand is why was ur honest opinion asked if no one really wanted to hear it? You guys everyone has the right to their own opinion and If you don't want to hear it simply dont ask.

can you explain what belting is and how to belt, what a head voice is, a chest voice is, what foods and drinks are good for a singer, and what foods and drinks are bad for a singer. I know this is a lot but please explain in detail and answer every question. thanks!

Ok hopefully I will remember everything:)
Belting is really just singing loud from your diaphragm. Some people call it your chest voice. To do it you just breath from your stomach. To practice breathing from your stomach lay flat on your back and sing something. This forces you to sing from your diaphragm and gets you used to it.
Your head voice is where most people go when they need to hit the higher notes. Sometimes it sounds a little nasally and breathy but with work it can sound better. When you are singing in your head voice you should feel a little something in the area behind your nose.
I don't drink anything carbonated, anything with a lot of sugar, or any dairy before I sing. For rehearsals i don't drink any of that starting a few hours before and for shows I try not to the week of so that I stay clear. Dairy and sugar can cause thick mucus build up in your throat and coat your vocal folds. I also don't eat anything with dairy or anything too filling right before a show.
What I DO use. Tea is always good! Throat coat tea or tea with a little honey or lemon. Drink LOTS of room temperature water and maybe put a little lemon in it. I've heard citrus is good for the voice. I also will usually suck on a ricola lozenge before I sing and I like to eat salty foods but that's just a personal thing.
Hope I remembered everything!
