Why are you so hot and smart and romantic (from your answers) and not within my vicinity .__.

The smart part I will happily agree with. The hot and romantic parts are HIGHLY arguable.

OH.MY.GOD. Nemu ask.fm authornya meter/second ugh i swear it's one of the best indonesian novels i've ever read! i'm waiting for your next masterpieces, ko! :D p.s: been reading most of your answers and your intelligence is such a big turn on ;_;

Dear Kak Nyankent yang gemar membaca buku dan jago bermain DotA, what are the things you willingly to do anything to buy it when there is a sale (50% above discount)? And maybe you can share an unique experiment when you bought it? Peace out!

Books! You can leave me in Periplus or Books and Beyond and I can set up camp for the whole week.

A more entertaining answer would probably be stocks? A stock from a good company discounted by 50% would be a good financial investment. Ha. Sorry for being such a party pooper.

absence of both concept (God and evil) what can happen, if this condition co-exist? thx

kurcad’s Profile Photocayadi
As iterated in my previous answer, I believe that there is no such thing as "the absence of evil," since evil itself essentially is just "the absence of God." Therefore when you said the absence of both, I believe it refers to the ABSOLUTE absence of God. Which would lead to utter Chaos with a capital C.

How do you measure people's intelligence? (please do not answer this with a scientific or philosophical approach, I simply want to know your way of measuring people's intelligence)

As you mentioned, there are dozens of ways to measure intelligence. Mine consists of determining whether the person has an open mind or not. Open-mindedness, in my experience, has a strong (very strong) positive correlation with intelligence.
.
Cognition and ability to coherently organize their thoughts are also decisive factors in my function of determining one's intelligence.

So, my apology if I'm simplifying, you can see the good in this current ebola outbreak too? And as extreme as this sounds, can't we also apply logic of 1st example to 2nd example? Perhaps God 'intended' for Hitler to 'help control' the population? Hence it happened.

Did you know that in MH17 there were hundreds of researchers specializing in AIDS? People have been saying that the shooting was staged. General public see it as a tragedy, I see it as a blessing in disguise about population control.
Answering your question, yes I think of ebola as a way to control the booming population.

Re your understanding on Epicurus' God argument, can you probably give some real life examples of evil begetting good? Why does it seem like it's a case for 'war for peace'?

I can think of two things:
1. Have you heard of the Black Death? It's the amazing (relatively bad adjective, but hey, I find it wonderful) pandemic in the 1300s. In the span of five years, 25 million people died and it ultimately wiped off 25-50% of Europe's population. It's obviously evil, yes?
Even with the Black Death we are facing the ever-looming overpopulation problem. Can you imagine what the Earth would currently be like if the Black Death hadn't happened?
.
2. If you had the ability to travel through time and space and to kill Hitler preventing the Holocaust from happening, would you? Killing someone is evil, but by doing that, you would prevent the death of millions of Jews.
.
Did you know that the concept there is no such thing being cold? Cold is really just the absence of heat. And darkness is the absence of light. Evil, then, would be the absence of God.

can problem of evil from epicurus solved? if it can how? thx

For those of you who don't know, Epicurus is a Greek philosopher who proposed:
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?"
.
You have to be aware that solving any problem requires logic. And logic and God are two things that don't mix well together (or, at all). After all, the existence of God depends on each person personal faith. The way I see it, religion is a trade-off between logic and inner peace.
.
Like time in the Grandfather paradox, we also have minimal understanding of God. However, God is a more abstract concept compared to time. At least we can observe time and quantify it. It's not the case with God.
.
I'm going off track, two possible solutions (although not readily proveable) as to avoid contradiction with Epicurus' proposition is that: 1. God gave human free will, and evil is just a consequence of human's actions, or 2. God allows evil since it would lead to the greater good.

explain the grandfather paradox!

This is unexplainable. Mainly due to the fact that we have little to no understanding of how time works. We as human think that time is linear, while in reality, time MIGHT work un-linearly (is this even a word, I can't remember what prefix goes with "linearly.")
.
Maybe reincarnation does exist and when we die, we can be reincarnated into the past (or to the future, in that case). Maybe later when you die you would be reincarnated as Hitler. Or when you die you would be reincarnated as your spouse, interacting with who you currently are.
.
My point is, we have limited knowledge of time, we could sit down and discuss about the conjectures of time. But unlike the Birthday paradox or the Potatoes paradox, the Grandfather paradox has no readily available solution.

If you let potatoes consisting of 99% water dry so that they are 98% water, they lose 50% of their weight. Can you explain this potato paradox?

devlinputra’s Profile PhotoDevlin Putra Candra
Assume the weight of the potatoes is 100 kilogram. Since the potatoes are 99% water, it implies the other 1% is solid. (Unless the remaining substance is gas, but I believe that is an extremely unlikely case). The ratio of the potatoes then becomes 1kg solid and 99kg water.
.
So if the potatoes are dehydrated so that the water goes down to 98%, it follows that the solid part of the potatoes goes up to 2%. The ratio then becomes 2:98 (solid:water). This ratio simplifies to 1:49. We know that the solid part of the potatoes is 1kg, it then follows that the water part of the potatoes is 49kg.
.
Therefore, the weight of now-dehydrated potatoes becomes 50kg, or half its original weight.
.
Paradox solved!

Being slow, I stared and stared at your paradox answer, googled and asked around : 1.Still staring. 2.Is this supposed to only be a logical theory? Say, if tortoise reached 11.2m?

1. The first one on the list, the birthday paradox, is a paradox simply due to our flawed brain: 1. we tend to prioritize ourselves. When we think of the birthday problem, our instinct is that we compare our birthday to someone else's. While in reality, we have to take everyone's into account.
.
Here is the mathematical proof. This requires some basic understanding of probability and statistics. Feel free to skip to #2 if you have no affinity towards math.
.
We are proving that in a group of 23 people, there is a 50% chance that there exists at least a pair of two people who share the same birth date.
.
Instead of calculating the probability of people who share the same birth date, it is much easier to calculate the probability of 23 people where no two people share the same birth date, then subtracting that number from one.
.
Why? Because p(x) + p(not x) = 1. Instead of calculating for p(x), we will calculate p(not x) and then subtracting that number from 1.
.
(I hope I'm not losing you already).
.
In this group of 23 people, there are 253 pairs of people. (23C2, or, 23!/(21!*2))
.
In any given PAIR, the probability of those two people NOT sharing the same birthday is 364/365, or 0.9972 (excluding February 29). Why? Because the probability of the second person having THE SAME birthday as the first is 1/365.
.
Therefore, if we would like to calculate the probability of 23 people (253 pairs) where no two people share the same birthday, we have to raise 364/365 to the power of 253.
.
(364/365)^253 = (0.9972)^253 = .4995.
.
Therefore, subtracting that number from one, we get, 0.5005, or 50.05%. This is the probability that, in a group of 23 people, the probability of AT LEAST two people sharing a birthday is 50.05%, that's the number we're searching for.
.
PHEW. I HOPE THAT MAKES SENSE.
.
As for the solution to #2, you should know that there are two kinds of infinities: countable and uncountable. The sum of an infinite amount of positive numbers does not necessarily become infinite. This is apparent when you sum up (1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8,...) since this will sum up to two.
.
As to your question, much like Schrödinger's Cat, it is just a thought experiment, since we are aware from our experience that Achilles will obviously, inevitably overtake the Tortoise. But if we follow the earlier premises, then Achilles would never be able to reach the Tortoise.

What is your favorite paradox?

steffiteo’s Profile PhotoSteffi Teowira
I can't choose just one! Let me do a few:
1. The birthday paradox
Suppose you choose a number of random people, there is a probability that two people will share the same birthday. Using the pigeonhole principle, obviously the "number of random people" required to make this probability 100% is 367 people, since there are 366 distinct birthdays.
However, the probability of 99% is reached with just 57 people and 50% with 23 people! (If I remember correctly). Please tell me I am not the only one being mind-blown.
.
2. Zeno paradoxes, especially the Achilles and Tortoise one
So Achilles and the Tortoise were holding a running race. Achilles was able to run 10 times faster than the Tortoise, so as a handicap, he decided to give the Tortoise a 10 meter head start before he started running.
And so the race went. The Tortoise crawled and as soon as it reached the 10 meter point, Achilles started running. He ran and he reached the 10 meter point in 1/10th of time needed by the Tortoise.
But in the time Achilles ran 10 meters, the Tortoise ran one additional meter, reaching the 11 meter point.
So Achilles ran one meter, reaching the 11 meter point. But the Tortoise reached the 11.1 meter point.
This implies that Achilles would never be able to reach the Tortoise, much less overtake it.
.
3. The Pinocchio paradox
This one is really simple. What would happen if Pinocchio said, "My nose will now grow!"?

Have you ever feel like that you miss something that you never knew?

Logically speaking, it is quite impossible to miss something one is not aware of. Missing something requires a previous experience regarding it, which follows that I am aware of that particular something. And if I were to miss something that I never knew, it implies that I'm amnesiac.
.
Metaphorically speaking, yes I have. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning, I yearn for something I can't quite put my finger on.

hv you ever written a letter for your crush?

Yes! I wrote this when I was infatuated with a certain girl.
.
Is it weird that I find my eyes secretly inching towards you in the crowd?
Is it even weirder that somehow I manage to find you without fail? It's like you got put in a 1950's television where everything is black and white while you are gleaming with your colorful clothes and cheerful expression.
.
Is it weird that I forget what else my smart phones can do when you're busy?
Is it even weirder that I had this micro urge to duct tape your phone to your hand so you can always reply to my texts? (I know that I'm probably starting to sound like a fucking creep, but in my defense it was only a really small urge.)
.
Is it weird that I find myself checking my phone every 30 seconds hoping for a notification?
Is it even weirder that every time my phone vibrates, I immediately turn into a fucking cheetah and grab my phone in the speed of light? If Pavlov was still alive, he probably could redo his experiment with me and a vibrating phone instead of a dog and a bell.
.
Is it weird that I can probably watch a two-hours-documentary-movie about you and probably be too busy to go to a restroom for even once?
Is it even weirder that I live in a constant fear of unconsciously spouting something that I only learned from stalking you online?
.
Is it weird that I get this irresistible urge to pinch your cheek every time you smile?
Is it weird that I want to play with your hair every time you flip it?
Is it weird that I get butterflies in my stomach every time I see you?
Is it weird that I grin like a retard every time I hear your name?
.
Is it weird that I wish there were more than 24 hours in a day just so I can have more time talking to you?
Is it even weirder that I wish humans didn't need to sleep so I can have like 8 extra hours to talk to you?
Ever since I met you, I feel weird. But then again, if this is what being weird means, I wouldn't mind being the weirdest person on Earth.

.
Nah dulu, ketika gue lagi main Dota, nyokap gue bilang, "Kamu ngapain sih main game mulu?"
.
"Soalnya seru..?" bales gue.
.
"Kamu buang waktu banyak banget buat main game. Mama nggak setuju kamu main game terus-terusan."
.
"Mama juga nonton tivi mulu. Nggak beda dong, wek."
.
"Beda dong. Mama kan udah tua. Kamu masih muda, harusnya melakukan kegiatan yang berguna."
.
"Loh ini berguna, Ma. Kent jadi belajar multi-tasking, prioritas, dan cara nyuruh-nyuruh tim."
.
"Tapi game itu nggak menghasilkan. Titik. Mama nggak suka kamu main game."
.
"Loh Mama jangan salah. Game itu sekarang udah kayak olahraga. Sekarang tiap tahun ada turnamen Dota. Tahun lalu juara satunya dapet 4.7 juta US Dollar."
.
Mama hening.
.
"4.7 juta Dolar, Ma. Dibagi lima. Satu orang dapet 900 ribuan Dolar. Sembilan M," imbuh gue, curiga Nyokap ga denger.
.
"TERUS KAMU KENAPA NGGAK IKUT TURNAMEN ITU???"
.

ko aku mau ikutan lomba feature writing tntg dampak teknologi trhdp budaya indonesia nh. mnrtmu topik apa yg kira2 bgs utk dibahas?? thx before :)

nathanialrs’s Profile PhotoNathania Larissa
Hi Nathania,
Off the top of my head:
(Ini mungkin agak susah researchnya, tapi I'm sure the advance in technology has a positive correlation with our attention span getting shorter)
.
3. Atau mungkin tentang the rise of e-commerce in Indonesia and how Indonesian citizen handle it? Seberapa percaya mereka kepada online shopping gitu2.
.
Oke udah buntu. Good luck!

Ehm.. Gue sih ga bisa detect sekali liat ya. Harus kenal dulu dan notice traitsnya. Ini lo lagi dideketin cewe emang?

what is to know about you?

It is generally very advisable to not talk to me before I have a dose of my morning caffeine.

Hi. I like to think kalo pacaran itu mirip banget sama cari kerja, di mana fisik adalah CV dan mengetahui kepribadiannya adalah pas interview. Kan nggak mungkin kalo kita, sebagai cowo, meng"interview" setiap cewe yang kita ketemui. Jadi kita filter dulu berdasarkan CV, kalo ada yang cocok baru kita "interview" to get to know her better.
.
Which, as we all know, is easily altered.

what do u think about cowo yg nilai cewe cuma dr fisiknya?

With no sugarcoat at all, cowok yang nilai cewek cuma dari fisiknya itu dangkal banget.
.
And I think it's sad to think like that, since a beautiful mind beats a beautiful face any time of the day.

cewe plg aneh yg prnh lo kenal?

Cewe paling aneh yang pernah gue kenal namanya kuntet (bukan nama sebenarnya, red).
.
Kuntet ini cuma punya dua ekspresi muka: kalo nggak cengengesan ya tidur. Tapi kalo udah tidur..
.
Temen-temen gue (sama gue juga) awalnya cuma iseng gangguin Kuntet. Goncang-goncang badannya sambil teriak, "TET GEMPA BUMI TET WOIIII"
.
Eh ga bangun.
.
"TET KOBONGAN."
.
Hening.
.
"TET BAKSO TET ONOK BAKSO LEWAT."
.
.
Hebat ya itu cewek.
