I don't think that's how that works. Manufacturers have all but admitted that they slow down service on your old phone to make the new cool phone seem faster and thus more desirable.
Captain Jack, River Song, or Sarah Jane?
I love them all. I find Jack and River's dynamics particularly interesting, but as an old school Whovian there will always be a special place in my heart for Sarah Jane Smith.
She's been my favorite companion since sixth grade. I've always admired the character's determination and smarts as both journalist and feminist, and later as an actor I appreciate the way Elisabeth Sladen was able to balance all that and give Sarah a proper vulnerability. When Sarah and the Doctor were in danger, you really felt it. I was overjoyed when they brought the character back, and felt her inclusion brought a layer of legitimacy and continuity to the new series.
I was devastated when Lis passed. I'm sad I never got to meet her.

Why are so many people depressed nowadays?
Depression has always been around us, but it's just now finally getting the awareness it needs. The stigmas attached to mental health issues are slowly starting to go away. Everyone needs to understand depression is an actual disease affecting someone, and not just "extreme sadness." It requires diagnosis and treatment just like any physical medical condition.

Someone who offers help without being asked and without expecting anything in return.

I'm married, so I've already got that covered. But, generally speaking, yes it does help to be friends first when starting a relationship.
When and from where did you buy your furniture?
All sorts of different places throughout the years. We have no real decorating aesthetic. Some pieces are hand me downs, some antiques, some things are from Ikea. There's definitely a mix.
