hi heidi! for music show recordings where you have to take the confirmation shot, do you think it's okay if you have a foreign number but can still text korean numbers?

hmm i've never tried it but as long as you can send a regular mms it should be fine :)

Hello! Are you paying for your own college fees? I have thoughts on going to sogang too but I'm not sure if I can financiallyㅜㅜ can I know what is your monthly expenses(food/accom/transport)?

My dad paid for my tuition but I am paying for all of my housing and living expenses.
For housing I spend about $400 per month. But it can be pretty different depending on what kind of housing you find and where it is. I don't live on campus in a dorm, I live off campus in my own room. It's in an expensive area.
Transportation well...I travel a lot for my job so I spend a lot on subway fees and etc. Uhh....probably $100 per month?
Food usually..I'd say $100~200 per month depending on what/how much you eat, or if you eat out...etc. >< Plus other necessities, and daily life...going out and having fun too...and shinee too...it really adds up. D: so I have to work a lot to earn that much each month ㅠㅠ

Ooh whats the difference between the academic and the regular programs? At ewha our writing and workbook homework tasks count towards our exams >< every textbook chapter theres a corresponding workbook chapter and writing (mini-essay type) that we have to do

Ahhh. At Sogang the academic program is specifically for people who want to attend university in Korea. It prepares you for writing college apps and etc. But really, the language content you learn is the same as the regular class so it's still the same just looks better on a college app if you take the academic program haha.. plus they prepare you for the apps and stuff so :D

hello! I loved your explanation of how to go on music shows/enter fansigns and I was wondering if there is a way for foreigners to become official shinee fanclub members? thank you :D

Sorry, there is not ㅠㅠ They only opened the fanclub one time back in 2009, and since then no one new has been able to join the fanclub in 6 years..........
Originally (back in 2009 when it opened), foreigners could not register unless you lived inside Korea and had an Alien Registration Card (like a foreigner ID number). So although I knew about the fanclub opening, I still couldn't register because I was outside of Korea. So yeah foreigners outside of Korea weren't allowed.
But SM has stopped opening all of their fanclubs years ago. SNSD's fanclub has only been opened twice in their 8 years, and Super Junior's fanclub also twice in their 10 years. So, since back then many OTHER idol groups (who actually open their fanclubs about once per year...) have started letting foreigners and even overseas foreigners join. So we're not sure IF sm ever started opening fanclubs again, maybe they would change their rules to reflect that. Dunno~ ><
P.S. SM did name Exo's fanclub and open that website for them in the last couple years, but that's not the same as a regular fanclub membership. Exo doesn't have the same kind of official fanclub like SM's older groups do.

what level of sogang are you in? Do you have a lot of homework, and do you fibd thr classes hard? im in level 2 at ewha and struggling like crazy these days ><

I'm in level 4 of KAP (the academic program, not the regular program). The homework is...not too much but it's not 100% required either. The classes themselves can be pretty challenging and fast paced. But I like it. I haven't heard about Ewha's language school, I'd be curious to know how the classes are set up ^^

i'm the topik anon (hope you remember me^^) thanks for anwering. actually sogang is my first choice i also read loads of bad things regarding yonsei and such. i hope to enter at hongik then but im really afraid i cant affroad it

Hongik would be a fun school to attend!! And yeah money is always the problem..I'm having trouble paying for college too >< good luck to both of us! ㅠㅠ

What are your plans after you graduate from sogang?^^

after i attend the language school (i'm not sure if i'll stop at level 5 or continue to level 6) i hope to attend regular korean university in an undergrad program, since i have yet to actually graduate college tbh XDDD if possible i will transfer my credits from america (i attended uni with a linguistics major for three years in michigan) and finish here. eventually i would like a degree in one or two of these: linguistics, korean language, translation/interpretation ^^ we'll see how that pans out lol...i'm not a very "big picture" kind of person XD

do you watch korean drama? what's your favorite drama?

i actually do not. i have only watched a couple dramas all the way through, and a few halfway, but that was all a long time ago. anyway one that i liked was Pasta ^^ and Personal Preference was good too. but i'm not a fan of dramas so i haven't watched any in years hehe sorry

do you know what is 'ieidi'?

ieidi...????? like....is that a misspelling of my name or something?? haha i don't know

do you know the meaning of '내가 원조다'? thanks:)

it can mean "i am the originator/founder" o:

Hey heidi, for music show entry, what is song ringtone and how do I get it?

they actually don't do the ringtones anymore. now you need the physical album and/or music download proof sheet + photo ID

Hi~ how much would you say you usually spend on food a week/month (whichever number is easier for you to work out!)

lord...that probably varies on whether i HAVE money in the first place. if i have money i tend to spend more, like say 50+(usd) per week, if i order takeout or go out with friends a few times. but if i'm super broke and have self-control i can spend nearly zero since i live in a goshiwon and they provide free rice and kimchi, and sometimes ramen and eggs so i would never starve ^^ perks!!

Have you ever gone to blue night radio??? I tried going last Saturday but they said Jonghyun wasn't recording... but they told me to come back on Sunday (I couldn't, I had to go back to jukeon the next day..) but ive read he records on Wednesday's???

i have never goneㅠㅠ i don't know anything about it. i'm sorry.

hi so you're in sogang, how is the regular korean language program for 1 year (like are u satisfied/is it well balanced/and the TOPIK etc)? how much are the costs ? and if there are possibilities to have scholarships how can we apply thanks !

well i just started a couple months ago but so far i am really enjoying it. i like sogang's course setup. i've heard a lot of negative things about yonsei tbh (but i've also heard some positive, so it really depends on what kind of learner you are).
yonsei focuses mainly on grammar. lots of book work and grammar drills/writing, etc. but sogang's main focus is speaking. of course sogang also puts importance on accuracy and being correct, but their main goal is to get the students to speak, a lot. speaking takes up half of the classes, and even the reading class involves a good chunk of speaking. they want to promote usable korean in real life situations. in speaking class there are a LOT of short solo presentations and group work/presentations and a large group video project.
to be honest even for me that sounds like a nightmare, because speaking was my worst skill (i was always too shy to speak, studying alone in america for 5 years with no korean friends to speak to didn't help). but i wanted to improve that area so i picked sogang and even though i'm shy and hate presentations it wasn't as bad as i thought. my classmates and teachers are great. and now my speaking teacher says i'm one of the best in the class. so don't be afraid to jump into something scary, if you really want to improve you will succeed ^^ (i know that wasn't part of your original question, but it's a good thing to think about!)
but although i made it sound like that, speaking is not ALL they do, and the reading and writing classes kick my ass frequently. so i do believe it's a good balance.
as for the topik, i have never taken it, and the classes themselves don't specifically address topik prep. they DO have free topik prep classes each semester, however, so you can feel free to attend those classes outside of your regular class time. (topik test is...well, it's more of a test-taking skills test than a language test. you could pass all 6 levels of language school and still get a 2~3 on the topik. it does take a bit of research and prep work to learn HOW to pass the test with a high score).
the cost for sogang klec courses are about 1,600,000krw per semester (roughly $1,350 usd per ~3 months). as for scholarships i'm not quite sure if there are any for the klec/language school. i haven't really looked into outside scholarships. but i know that at the end of each semester there is a scholarship awarded to the #1 student in each class to put towards their next semester.
anyway i hope that helped, feel free to ask if you have any other questions ^^; (and sorry i haven't checked ask.fm a lot lately so this is a couple weeks late..)

Heidi, does shinee lives separately now?

yep yep yep they haven't all lived together as 5 for a few years already ^^ if i rmb correctly jongtae were the first to move out cuz their families live in seoul so they went to live with them. idr specifically what happened after that

hi heidi i hope all is well with you ^^, i would like to ask your opinion about OIAM's Trauma. i was planning to order it but ive read something on twitter on how she is not so active lately. now im not so sure, do u think its still worth it to buy her goods? & what is ur fave fansite btw? thanks!

sorry this reply is so late, i think i wasn't able to help you with your decision in time but ㅠㅠ if you still want my opinion i'll say this~!!
i don't know about oiam's trauma goods, but i have also seen that she's not as active online as she used to be. but just because she's not active on twitter doesn't mean she doesn't have pictures (even new ones) or at least unreleased photos even from the past. she is a good fansite with high quality work so i don't think it would be disappointing either way.
fav fansite is a hard question for me to answer...recently i like guilty pleasure, and kingjh also has consistently good photos. but gp released a whole set of goods called loup blanc ("white wolf") and it was all photos of white haired jjong ㅠ3ㅠ totally my style. those goods were so nice.

honestly, do you really like such otp or pairing between 2 members in SHINee group? I personally dislike it very much. I think moment-moment between two members are exist because they are just good friends from trainee era until now

well, i like shipping just for fun. i don't believe they're actually together or anything, and i won't ever say they are seriously (only jokingly). because we don't know any truths unless they say it to us with their own mouths.
but i don't see a problem with shipping as long as you're not delusional..lol. people ship and write fanfiction just...because that's what it is: fiction. it's just a hobby and art form that people use for entertainment ^^
but some people really believe their otp is together which is kind of weird for me, i don't like jumping to that kind of conclusion. if you're being serious, assuming things like that about people might be offensive. even if it's real or not, you shouldn't put words in someone's mouth or say things about them unless they themselves already said for a fact whether it's true.
so yeah, in my opinion as long as people aren't delusional there's nothing wrong with using fiction/shipping for entertainment, same as shipping book or movie characters and writing fiction of that. you could argue that it's weird because idols are real people, which is true and i also feel weird sometimes, but if you don't go to some crazy extreme that affects the idols themselves, then i don't think they mind either. it's just...a thing people do XD

what secondary school were u from O,o

secondary school? like, my high school in america..?? o: it's a random hs in michigan, usa XD not important!

Hi (: I was wondering if you knew how to get a tutoring job for the summer in Korea any type of volunteer service that gives you room and boarding if you work for them? I'm trying to find a way to stay in Korea next summer for a bit (:

you can get tutoring jobs by looking on craigslist or other websites, or using friends to find students through word of mouth. but obviously, that's not steady or guaranteed so it's a little scary.
as for volunteering that provides room and board, i do not know. i've heard of some kinds of volunteer programs like that, for organic farming or something...but i don't know if they're in korea. i never looked into it.
if you have a degree (any bachelors degree) from an english speaking country you can get a job as an english teacher, which pays well and usually also provides room/board and even one or both plane tickets sometimes.
if your trip is short, like just for the summer, you can look into working holiday visas. i don't know the details since i've never done it, but that's another way to earn money while on vacation.
