Hello Heidi! I have a question, you said in one of your answers that call someone by (name)goon is barely used for being too formal, but i'm listen to Jonghyun and Minho at Blue Night and Jjong calls "minho-goon" and Minho calls "Jonghyunnie-hyung",its just bc is Jonghyun's work?(thks&srryfortypos)

I didn't say it's BARELY used, I just said it's less common than -ssi ^^ but yeah, it's a little more formal so since Minho is the guest on the show, that's probably why he called Minho "Minho-goon". Usually on talk shows when idols come on, the MCs are the ones who call them ____-goon :)

If you don't mind to answer, have you met Brazilians in Seoul? If yes, there are something like a community is Brazilians/south Americans? Thank you ^^ .r

Personally, I don't remember ever meeting any Brazilians but there are lots of groups of people in Seoul! So many foreigners and they all have their own hangout spots haha. I've even been to a Nigerian bar! So even though I never met any Brazilians myself, I'm sure there's a community of them here :D

I have reading you talk about shipping prices, but if the person pays for it? Isn't like 12~20 dollars? I'm saying that BC is what I pay when I order something from a Korean store, it is different for you? (Sorry for any typos, and thank you >.<)

Yeah, it can be quite expensive to ship stuff from Korea. So It usually would cost around 10~15 dollars >< or more if it's a larger package

I'm always curious and it may seem silly as you met them regularly but after I met SHINee at SWC3, I cannot move on haha, their actions are still vivid inside my mind and I miss them so much. Have you ever feel like this?

Yeah, all the time! Even though I see them a lot, I guess I got spoiled XD it sounds silly or whiny to other people who can't see them often, but during a long break like this it feels like way too long, especially since they were promoting nonstop for a year and a half! I complained a lot about it being so hard and exhausting to go see them, but now I miss it so much T_T haha
Even after you just see them and you're leaving the venue, you already miss them right? All of us feel the same! Everyone misses them all the time T~T <3

Yes! That's why. Taemin and Kai both celebrated their coming-of-age on the same day (coming-of-age day is the third Monday in May).

do you mean in Korea? because in Korea it's ages 6-12 for elementary, 12-15 for junior high school and 15-18 for high school.

Have you heard key nag in real life?

haha i'm not sure. not at a fansign, i haven't. possibly in some talk segment of a concert or showcase that i can't remember off the top of my head XD

omg don't you want to give albums away only by shipping price? I think a lot of people can be interested

the shipping cost is so high that it's still hard to find people to buy it...most of my albums are opened, and even though i let people choose the photocard they want, many people won't buy the albums because shipping is still too high......T___T i've already tried...

I can't give them away because people in Korea already have them (it's pointless to give them away here) and to ship them outside of Korea is way too expensive for me. If there was a way for me to give them to people for free I would gladly do it immediately! But I can't afford shipping and stuff so... :(
And (name)ssi is the normal way to call someone, similar to Mr, Mrs, or Miss. (name)goon has a similar meaning, but it's seen as just a little bit more formal (used less often) ^^ and it's only used for boys. (name)yang is the female equivalent of (name)goon. :)

Hi Heidi! So you said you're from the Midwest in America, right? If there's an SM Town show in either New York or LA while you're back home, will you go? If so, which one will you go to? Both? :)

I always had trouble going to Kpop events in America...in the USA I never had a good enough job (teaching English in Korea pays really well) and traveling to those places is too far and difficult (unlike Korea where I can be in Seoul in just 2.5 hours for only $16 T__T)
But if there happens to be a concert while I'm in the states I will definitely try my best to go! It all depends on my luck with funds, etc XD ahh..

Months and days use Sino-Korean. So May is "o wol" (5+month) and 25 would be "ee-ship-o il" (25 + day).

I'm a diff anon but I would like to thank you for teaching me something. I'm not crazy trying to learn korean (but its nice picking up a language its just not my hobby lol) but your explaining is very clear and understandable. Thank you for that!

Yeah it's very much the same! Japanese also has Sino-Japanese words that came from Chinese. Even though Japanese still uses Chinese characters and Korean doesn't, it's the same situation.
But yeah, I think that makes it hard! I used to be very interested in Japanese back in elementary/middle/early high school. But I never learned it very far, and I always found kanji to be super difficult even though I enjoy Chinese and Chinese characters. I think it's because the kanji is used along with hiragana/katakana and there can be different pronunciations of the same kanji..>_< I never learned Japanese conjugation or anything, so that's probably why it was so hard and I gave it up to learn Korean instead XD
And yeah I love SHINee's Japanese hehe ;m; they're all getting so good at it now~ I wonder if Key's Japanese is better than his English...he never gets a chance to show off his real English ability, other than his silly captions on instagram or short sentences. I wish we could hear him really converse in English like we've heard him speak Japanese!

I'm confused btw korean and sino-korean ><; which one is used more often and how do you differentiate

Sino-Korean refers to words in Korean vocabulary that come from hanja (Chinese characters used to write Korean in the past). Pure/native Korean words are words that don't have a hanja equivalent. So many Korean words have multiple forms, one from native Korean and one from Sino-Korean. The biggest example of this is the Korean number system.
Korean has two different number systems. The native Korean number system only goes up to 99, and starting from 100 you can just use Sino-Korean numbers. The native Korean numbers are "hana, dul, set..." etc. These numbers are used for counting objects (fruit, chairs, people, etc.) and telling time (hours only).
The Sino-Korean number system has hanja roots and so these numbers were originally written using Chinese characters. So numbers 1-10 only have one syllable. For example, "il, ee, sam, sa..." These numbers are used for years, months, days, measuring, currency, math, phone numbers, addresses, and anything having a number higher than 99 (even if it would normally use native Korean numbers).
When it comes to telling time, both sets of numbers must be used. For hours, you use the native Korean numbers, and for minutes, you use the Sino-Korean numbers.
For example, 1:03 would be "han-shi" (hana + shi /'hour') "sam-bun" (sam + bun /'minute')
If I were to have to choose one set that was more important, I would say Sino-Korean, especially when living in or visiting Korea. But they're both useful and necessary for everyday life.
