(ctd) but there are obvious issues with that. i just a.) wouldn't want to randomly assign prompts because i want people to be comfortable and b.) want people to write their own fics? so that every fic has a unique storyline? granted it would be cool to see how two or three people tackle the same prompt but still. i also wouldn't want to have people just write what they want because i want things to be very harlequin as opposed to like vaugue "this is romance-y right???"

maybe another way you could do it is have people sign up for a top three and then assign the prompts based on that? so then writers would have some choice, but there would be a fair amount of distribution, too. i think it partially depends on how many prompts would be available, too. and i think some would probably be a bit leery of signing up for a prompt that a lot of other people pick too, out of concern that their fics come out similarly.

supernatural-y like zombies/vampires/werewolves (yuck on my end i hate a/b/o) but i was just asking people i like if they had any opinions on what kind of theme they'd like to see? it'd be something like you know a minimum word count and length of time and probably in the fall? for ease. let me know if you have any ideas or opinions or anything~ it was a while ago when i talked to vee about this so i'm not even sure if she's still interested but i am lol u__u romance novels is the one that i am most interested in because i'd love to see people tackle crack-y prompts and i think what i've decided, if that's what ends up happening, on opening up a list of romance novel summaries for authors to choose from so that we can ensure maximum crack appeal, lol. O M F G i would be all over a romance-novel themed challenge *u* plus, with the romance novel theme, there's definitely a chance to incorporate supernatural elements, etc. into the prompts/fics, whatever floats each writers boat (agreed with you on a/b/o, but w/e ykinmk and all that), since there are all sorts of subgenres romance can get into, or genres it can cross with

i think my main concern would probably be the minimum word count ngl. besides that, the only thing that i'd want to know about is how prompt claiming would work? first come, first serve vs. unlimited number of ppl being able to work with any particular prompt vs. a limited ppl being able to work with a particular prompt, etc.

The first time Jongsuk catches Woobin sneaking in, they lock eyes and Woobin practically freezes in his tracks. To be honest, the thought of throwing him out never even crosses Jongsuk's mind -- he knows all too well the feeling of not having a place to go back to at night -- he just turns and walks away. Woobin doesn't say anything, and neither does he.

One night becomes two, then three, five, nine. "Do you like the bath house in particular?" he asks one night. It's the first time they've ever spoken to each other.

Woobin seems wary at first, but he shrugs. "I like it," he answers.

Jongsuk smiles. "I'm Jongsuk," he says. "I like it here, too."

"My name's Woobin," he replies. Jongsuk's pretty sure that isn't a real name, but he doesn't press upon it.

"You know, the bathhouse opens up at eight, but morning shift workers come in at seven," Jongsuk says, tone carefully casual. "Just in case you didn't know, Woobin." There's a pause -- "Good night," he adds, before he leaves.

Woobin's already tall and skinny to begin with, but Jongsuk is positive he gets thinner every time they happen to bump into each other. "Are you eating well?" he asks. Woobin shrugs; Jongsuk takes it as a no.

The next night, right before the bathhouse closes up, he boils a cup of water in the employee office's coffeemaker and pours it into a cup of instant noodles, putting the wood chopsticks on top to keep the lid down as the noodles soften. "Hungry?" Soohyuk asks.

"Not really, I guess," he replies. He leaves the cup of noodles in a corner of the locker room.

The next morning, there's a note there in its place: 'Thank you.' Jongsuk smiles vaguely as he folds the note up and slips it into his wallet.

"What," Jongin asks blankly, "are you doing in my room?"

Joonmyun looks up from the basket of clothes he's working on folding. "I'm doing your laundry," he answers, holding one of Jongin's sweaters up.

"Well, don't," Jongin says. "Especially not in my room, just -- shouldn't you ask before coming into my room?"

"You weren't home," Joonmyun replies, trying to keep his tone neutral. "The drier finished its cycle, so I thought it would be nice to just get it done and over with."

Jongin frowns. "It's my laundry, anyway. You know you don't have to do anything for me, right? I can take care of myself."

There's a pause as all sorts of thoughts go through Joonmyun's head: Jongin can't take care of himself, Joonmyun thinks, and he's a little deluded if he thinks he can. Joonmyun cooks and cleans and works and -- no, he shouldn't have thoughts like this. "You're right," Joonmyun replies. He can feel his ears start to go bright pink. "I don't /have/ to do anything. Have you ever considered maybe I /want/ to be of help to you?"

Jongin is silent. Joonmyun drops the sweater to the ground, because his grip is starting to get shaky, and he's not sure if it's because he's angry or not. "That's what I thought," Joonmyun says softly.

Eating dinner the day after Yixing and Lu Han's fight is quite possibly one of the most uncomfortable experiences of his life, Minseok thinks. The two of them refuse to engage in eye contact or sit down without at least two people between them, and Minseok is one of the unlucky two. "Please pass the water pitcher," Yixing says.

The pitcher is sitting right next to Lu Han's elbow. Everybody waits for him to pick it up, but nearly a minute passes, and he makes no acknowledgement that he's even heard. "Here you go," Zitao finally says, reaching over Lu Han's arm to pass it down to Minseok, who quietly pours for Yixing.

"I'm having bad flashbacks to middle school," Jongdae mutters. Everybody politely ignores him, even though they're all in agreement.

"Let's not be like this," Yifan says. "We have to perform in two days. It won't be good if we're so awkward on stage."

"What's awkward?" Lu Han asks.

Minseok loves Lu Han, honestly -- he thinks Lu Han is a great person and a great friend -- but in that moment, Minseok thinks he could punch Lu Han in the face and not regret it. He places his chopsticks over his bowl with a quiet clink. "Lu Han," he says, a certain tone of warning in his voice. Minseok's not very assertive, especially for being the oldest, but that's why everybody listens to him when he's serious. "And for that matter, Yixing too," he continues. "Can't you two at least settle this like adults?"

"We /are/ being adults," Yixing replies stonily. "If we weren't, we'd still be yelling right now."

"Look, we'll work things out at our own pace. It won't affect our performance or anything, we promise," Lu Han adds. It's such a strange conversation to be in the middle of, Minseok thinks, because both of them are pointedly speaking away from each other.

"Of course it wouldn't. We're idols," Yixing says.

Minseok finds it mildly baffling how in sync they are, even when they're trying not to be. Across the table, Yifan stares at the two of them. "As long as you two aren't like this on stage," he says, and everybody can tell he's speaking as Kris, the leader.

The two of them scowl at almost the exact same time. Minseok has to hide a tiny smile -- he's sure things will work out just fine.

When Sunggyu approaches Woohyun and says, "I'm babysitting for my neighbors this weekend, wanna come over and meet them?" Woohyun knows what he really means is, "I'm babysitting for my neighbors this weekend, wanna come over and do it for me?" He says yes anyway, because he's a sucker like that, and he likes kids.

The kids are great (named Myungsoo and Sungyeol, known around the apartment complex for being the liveliest pair of friends around) and don't require a lot of care, to be honest. "We're both almost ten," Sungyeol informs Woohyun, who actually would've pinned Sungyeol a few years older with how tall he is. "That means we can already do pretty much everything by ourselves."

"Sure you can," Woohyun replies, trying not to laugh. "Do you guys want help me make lunch, then?"

Myungsoo and Sungyeol take a moment to consider the offer. "Okay," Myungsoo says. "But I don't want to eat pasta, 'cause we already had that last night."

"I think we can manage a pasta-free lunch," Woohyun replies, smiling as the two of them shoot off to the kitchen to inspect the contents of the fridge. "Hey, Sunggyu hyung," he says, turning to face Sunggyu, who is frantically going through paperwork on the coffee table. "You could help too, you know?"

"Huh?" Sunggyu says, before shaking his head and getting up. A few papers fall to the floor, but he ignores them. "Yeah, okay, I'm coming."

Woohyun is pretty sure he's only getting up for food, and that taking care of Sunggyu is going to be far more work than taking care of the kids. "I should get paid for this," he mutters to himself, but he makes a pile of ham and cheese sandwiches anyway.

i'm not sure i'm well-equipped to give advice on this, but here are the things that come to mind:

sometimes, it takes a while. maybe you just haven't found that something (a subject or a teacher, perhaps?) that you enjoy a lot! like, i'm an econ/math double major now, but i didn't even take an econ class until the last semester of high school. and i didn't fall in love with math until coming to college, even though my parents started teaching me math when i was four (asian parenting e___e)

i feel like that's rather passive advice because i'm basically saying "wait it out" but there's also no reason that you can't go towards it, as well! what kinds of things do you enjoy? do you have a subject you particularly enjoy already? or maybe you can try picking up on subjects outside of the standard school curriculum, as well. i'm assuming you like k-pop so maybe try reading about asian culture or languages or history, if you think that's be your thing?

tl;dr be open to learning as many new things as possible. cast your net wide, because the waters are vast! you can always narrow things down later. as long as you have the interest in learning, then that's the most important, i think. liking to learn things >>>>> liking school by a long shot.

[side note: nobody is obligated to like school, so don't feel bad if you dislike it. sometimes the education system can be unfair and unrewarding to students, and doesn't encourage students to pursue things outside of ~~conventional success~~, which is kind of a terrible mindset imo. students are graded more on things like memory recall than, say, creative thought. and it's like, if you don't test well, too bad, screw you!! and that really frustrates me because there are lots of bright people out there who have their passion for learning dulled by a system that doesn't support them properly. ranting aside, the point i think i'm trying to make is that a lot of people dislike school for very legitimate reasons, that have nothing to do with personal preferences and everything to do with the way the school system is.]
