I have met with a fraternity here in USC, Alpha Phi Omega, and they were very nice people. I think you're scared because of the negative stigma surrounding the word faternity and sorority. Don't cage yourself :)

student formation are deprived of recognition due to their nature: fraternities (i am opposing the fraternities inside each universities), sororities, political organizations, non Catholic groups, LGBT are summarily deprived of their right to organization. Mao ni sha ate
According to the magna carta, every student has the right to organize. These organizations are progressive in nature. During Martial Law, fraternities and sororities played major roles in the fight for democracy. USC refuses to recognize these organizations. :)
