What do you recommend for growing longer Curly hair?

Time, patience & avoiding any damage from straightening it. Use good products to maintain the condition of your hair in between trims. I recommend 3-4 trims a year

hi shai , if I do have to dry my curls with a blow dryer do you recommend using a defuser? thanks;)

Diffuser works great if you know how to use it.

I usually use SheaM. products but after reading your advice to other curly girls realize/notice how much buildup I have. I'm going to invest in DevaCurl products soon but in the meantime, how do you suggest I remove all the buildup without using a sulfate shampoo? Thank you, love your work. <3

Thank you! Keep using it & eventually you'll be build up free

Is straightening your hair once bad? I've been natural for 9 months and haven't put heat on it at all but I'm curious to see what it would look like straight.

I've seen hair burn beyond repair with only 1 blowout! Straightening is very dangerous no matter how you do it

What do you think of cantu products

From what I've seen they leave build up on hair causing it to look greasy & limp. I prefer DevaCurl
If you see hair products at discount shops like Target, CVS, Wal Mart, grocery stores or beauty supplies they're most likely low end quality.

Hey Shai, I really am fascinated by how you give curls so much life!! I also have curly hair but I live in Holland (Europe). Is there a chance that you will visit Europe one day. Because I really think i need your magic hands for my curly frizzy hair

I would love to but it's really far & expensive. I love Holland! One of my favorite countries. I've been twice & can't wait to go again. Amsterdam is one if the most underrated cities in the world. I love Museumplain

Many ig celebs are promoting hairfinity. Have u heard of it? Do you think it bs?

Infiniti doesn't sponsor me..... I always recommend your doctor to check on all pills & liquids you plan on consuming especially long term.
If you treat your hair properly you won't need too many supplements. Healthy hair grows.

is it okay to cowash my hair everyday? pineapple bun does not work for me and I dont know how to keep my curls intact while i sleep

Only if you're using products that don't build up. If your hair feels clean & fluffy then you're fine. If you notice it's gummy, sticky, flakey, oily, greasy....... then it's not a good product.
I have a very detailed explanation about cleansing on my blog ->>

When getting a DevaCut with you, what exactly are we getting? Just the cut or is there a treatment included?

Cleanse, treatment, haircut & styling including the lesson of proper hair care.

I have 17 years of heat damage from press n curl to flat irons. Do I need to chop my hair? Im trying to embrace my curls, but they look dry.

If your hair won't curl with moisture it's probably dead

How often should you get your hair trimmed ?

Every 3 months! It's important to keep split ends from getting worse.

Shai. You gave me an amazing cut on Tuesday! I am using the Deva Curl No Poo, One Condition and Light Defining Gel and letting my hair air dry (which gives me defined little cork screw curls), but when i do it myself my hair isn't as long as it was when I left your salon. What am I doing wrong? Shay

Thank you!!! It's feeling healthier so it shrinks more; it's a good thing! You can stretch it after it dries.

I have poofy natural curyl hair, i need something to weigh it down, or a conditioner to train it and eventually it would stay straight. (not a relaxer or perm though). What do you recommend?

My blog is very helpful so you can understand how to care for your hair.

I avoid heat. Maybe use it once every 3-4 months. But are you saying not to use it too much or not to at ALL?

Drying it with a diffuser that blows hot air won't hurt your hair. Avoid stretching out your curls with heat!!!!

My curls do not survive the night or the pineapple bun. I wake up looking like an electrocution Gone wrong. I have to re-wet each day to activate them. Any way around this? Sometimes I don't have the time!

Some people can't wear 2nd day hair. I replied to a similar question a few minutes ago

Hi shai... whenever i wash my hair its puffy on the top and kinda curly/wavy at the bottom... if i used a little bit of gel and a diffuser would it even out everything on my hair

It all boils down to proper hair care using good products. Avoid silicones & sulfates.

i'm thinking about getting the big chop, however, i'm doing some research before i make the decision. do you know a way i could sleep with short afro-like curly hair?

There are great hair tubes/scarves/head wraps that protect your hair

do you think olive oil is good for curly hair ?

There are many articles about it that explain the benefits of it. Unfortunately, I've never seen it make a difference in my clients' hair.
I'm not a fan of walking around with greasy hair

Does too much water damage the hair?

You should always condition your hair if you rinse it in the shower. I don't know what you mean by "too much water"

when im in the shower i seemed to noticed that a pieces of my hair keeps falling , is that bad ?

If this continues you should consult with your doctor unless it's normal shedding
