Since you have been featured on a book cover before, do you yourself have any desire or plans to write a book yourself?

I used to want to write novels, and even have some partially-done work from years ago, but I don't think that I have the mind, time or talent to write something worth publishing. I just write poetry now and then.

How it feels to move to another country? Do you feel more Canadian than Iranian nowadays? If not, What keeps your feet on your homeland?

I am Iranian no matter where I live. I simply live in this beautiful country that is Canada, but I will always be a true Iranian. :)
It feels normal living here. I think that the freedom I have here is something natural to me, something that everyone deserves.

Hey Fo, how good is your portuguese? xoxo 'u'

Very bad for now. I carry around my Portuguese phrasebook, but so far I only know how to swear in Portuguese. Haha
No, but in all honesty, I just know a few things, plus a bunch of swear words.

epica or within temptation ?

I can't choose. I "grew up" with both sounds, and adore both in their own ways. Both bands, including Nightwish, hold great memories for me.

Do you have a life motto that you live by?

Many... but the one I keep in mind more often these days is that life is all about balance. You wouldn't appreciate the highs if you didn't suffer through the lows.

What is your spiritual state at the moment you are onstage? What helps you not to get distracted by the crowd's reactions and generally all this chaos happening around while you are on stage? :-)

Good question. I don't try to distract myself. I actually try to get even more connected with the people, or the "chaos" going on around me. That's part of the whole experience to me, to feel the crowd's energy, be a part of them.

How did you feel the first time you performed in front of an audience?

It felt normal, to be honest. I was a little more nervous than I get nowadays, but 10 seconds in, and I felt "at home".

Hello I have a question for you. It's difficult for me to find a place where I can dance. It's really expensive to pay for a place to practice, at least in my country. I tried at college but sometimes I get distracted by people, and I can't do it at home because there's no space! =/ What can I do?

I had the same issue before I found a comfortable dance studio, which is still a lot to pay for over here.
You might be surprised at how much room you have to dance at home. You don't need much room to practice isolation and abdominal movements. For traveling, however, you do need a lot of room, but traveling isn't as important. If you have 3-steps of space around you, there is a lot you can do.
If you want proof, you can see my live performance with Epica. I had no more than 3-4 steps worth of room around me. It is possible. :)

hi! do you recommend to dance without mirrors? i'm learning bellydance and we don't have any in class so i want to know what do you think about this

I personally think it is very important to dance in front of mirrors when you're practicing. It helped me realize my facial expressions, for example. Sometimes I would do moves that I thought looked good, but in reality didn't. Mirrors helped me realize what I did, and how it actually looked like to the audience. Well, mirrors and recording yourself both help, although mirrors are more effective.

What do you think about other styles of dance to metal?

I love it. I once saw a video on YouTube of a girl doing ballet to metal music. It was one of the most original things I've ever seen. It makes me happy to see more people picking up metal bellydance, or mixing metal with any style of dance that they enjoy.

How do you prepare for a video, and how do you choose what song to dance to and what movements to use?

Before renting the studio, I choose a set of songs and make an iTunes playlist. I then try to choose the proper outfits/accessories for those set of songs, and since I improvise, I don't really plan on what moves I will use. That part comes naturally after the many times I have listened to those songs and thought about how I would dance to them.

Do you have a nickname? What is it?

Shortly after I came online as "Mahafsoun", people took my real name which is "Foroogh" and gave me their own versions of my nickname. Such as "Fo", "Foo", "Fofo" and basically anything in that line. :P

Think of three of the most interesting conversations you've had the past 12 months... where did these three conversations take place geographically (i.e., cafe? prison? nursery? space colony? in your head?)

On the "Interesting" factor...
1st place: Internet
2nd place: Home
3rd place: Coffee Shop

Is bellydancing the only thing you do for living? I mean, is it enough or you have one more job? And did you go to college? Xoxo :)

No, unfortunately it is not enough for a living. I work for a living, and to support my art. Like most artists, I do what I do for the love and pleasure of it. Money, when it comes to "Mahafsoun" and the whole thing, is the last thing (or one of the last things) on my mind, as I know how impossible it is to rely my entire life's needs on just my artwork.
