Has he been always the one doing the effort? If yes, it's your turn. Show him you're worth it. Show him you appreciate everything. If, despite all your effort, he still doesn't come back, it's his loss. Moving on will be painful, but i promise you, all pain is temporary.

I wouldn't generalize. I'm friends with a handful (and they're absolutely the best) and i'm civil with many (and they're really nice too, we just aren't close). A few either don't like me or the other way around lol
