Sorta. We have our PS4's connected to an El Gato which is then connected to our Black Magic cards. (It's the only way we could get our PS4's to work with Black Magic)

I think they should just have you create your own Assassin at this point. I think that would make everyone happy, but I guess it might mess with the historical parts of the story. That being said the excuse they gave wasn't a great one & everyone had the right to be upset.

I haven't played AC4 so I don't know. Glitched achievements suck and I hate them. Thankfully some developers are good about that and will fix their achievements.
