Some say music is haram. What's ur opinion on that?

I believe that SOME music is haram, if it propagates messages that are haram. Music itself however? Not in my opinion. I believe that the evidence presented by those who believe it is haram is extremely weak and totally unconvincing to me.

Is hunger striking 7aram?

This notion is embraced only by those having a very narrow understanding of Islam. Those who believe this, are also unaware of the concept of struggle, what struggle means, and what circumstances make people decide to choose hunger strike as their form of resistance. Khader Adnan, the pioneer of Palestinian hunger strikes, is a deeply religious Muslim. I believe it is not Islam, but ignorance, which leads people to believe that this is haram.

Do u feel ur music is reaching enough people?

It can never be enough, until Palestine is free. Statistics show me that STILL, my music is mainly embraced by Palestinians. My deep wish is that more citizens of other nations get acquainted with it. So please, do share my music with people in the West, the Far East, Africa and South America.

Why don't u compose a song in Hebrew to open the minds of Israelis?

A Palestinian will not open their minds. I don't believe in that formula. It has no power against settler colonialism. The reason: this would not be resistance, but a gesture of love, recognition and cordiality that is entirely inappropriate under the circumstances. It would confirm their proclaimed superiority, not weaken it. Occupation, land theft and expulsion must be met with resistance, that is the only way. My songs address the world community, to explain our struggle to this global village. That, I believe, can be useful, but only if my songs reach them - and that is where YOU can be helpful.

Do u speak Hebrew?

No. I wish I could speak it, but I have a profound dislike of the language because I know it mainly from border police, and Israeli forces invading our village and shouting it through their wireless devices. It is the language of the oppressor, the occupier and the land thief. I find the language EXTREMELY unattractive (euphemism!) and this poses a major problem for me if I would attempt to learn it. Nevertheless, I would recommend that any Palestinian learn the language. Knowledge is power.

Do u have Israeli friends?

No, but I have some anti-Zionist Twitter acquaintances among them. I will not communicate with anyone who has Zionist sympathies. I have explained my position on this in the article 'Futile Dialogue' that you can find on my website. I never portrayed myself as a 'bridge-builder'. There are plenty of other Palestinians who specialize in that, and I haven't seen them achieving something that actually helps liberate Palestine. And let that be clear: I am only interested in liberating Palestine. When Palestine is free, enough bridges can be built, on the basis of equality.

Why are u not focusing on the other hunger strikers, only on Samer Issawi?

Maybe u haven't read the articles on my site. You will see that almost every article mentions Ayman Sharawneh, Tariq Qa'dan and Jaafar Azzedine as well. The focus on Samer Issawi was an excellent strategic choice by the Free Samer Issawi Campaign which helped the public remember one name, and through it find out about the other hunger strikers. EVERY hunger striker is equally important to me, and to all of us. In our calls, tweets and statements, we include them ALL.

Who is Samer Isawi? U tweet a lot about him.

Samer Issawi is an amazing Palestinan hero, whose tremendous courage inspires us all. Visit my website on http://www.docjazz.com and you will find a lot of information about him there. Also, type his name in search engines and find out. I really recommend it !

When ppl say ur work is anti-semetic, what do u say?

Usually, that's my cue to completely ignore them. But if circumstances don't allow that, I say the following: 1. 'Anti-semitic' is a racist term, it implies that only Jews are 'real Semites' and other Semites like Arabs are not (perhaps these are 'sub-human'?) The blatant racist arrogance ! 2. Nothing I have ever said or written is anti-Jewish (using the correct terminology here), it is strictly anti-Zionist 3. Whoever calls me 'anti-Semitic' is under high suspicion of Zionist sympathies.

Oh, and may Allah reward you the best, of this dunya and the akhira for all you do in favor of raising awareness on the situation of the hunger strikers in particular, and on the great palestinian people in general ! (i'm not a Palestinian myself but respect your cause so much)

Thank you so much and I extend the same wish to you! May Allah have mercy on all of us, and alleviate the suffering of all those around the globe who are suffering from injustice, and may we never forget our duty to fight against it.

Dear Tariq, what are your thoughts on fellow Palestinian who used to be very active and reactive when it comes to demanding justice for the hunger strikers, who even used to initiate the twitter campaign, and who are now shamefully silent, while tweeting insignificant stuff ?

I really haven't noticed. Has this happened? You know, I have stopped thinking this way. My focus is on my own duties. I try to fulfill them as well as I can. Focusing on that others do costs a lot of energy and doesn't bring any results. But thank you for the question.
