What do you think of the Valley Junior Warriors U18 team.

Have barely seen them. Can't give you an accurate assessment

Where did you pick Merrimack to finish?

10th. After examining last year a little more closely, scoring is a definite concern but cleaning up the .890 team sv% is more important.

Across all of college hockey, who do you think has a legit chance at the Hobey Baker award this season?

I think it's very much up in the air. No clear-cut favorite. Czarnik, Roy, LaLeggia I'd imagine are in the conversation.

What do you think of Bailey MacBurnie (Salisbury)

Good goaltender. Heard he was getting D-I looks last year and rightfully so if you look at his numbers.

How do you think Saugus will fair now that there back in thr northeast conference. I think there going back to the tournament this year.

The NEC is where they should be. I haven't seen their team in probably two years, so not sure how they'll do but I'm glad to see them back on the NEC.

How do you feel about Merrimack recruit Pat Kramers linemate Kayser Raei, saw him play couple days ago for u18 GBL Jr.Bruins.

Honestly, Kramer's entire line stood out when I watched BC High last year. I'll have to go back and check my notes, but I think I remember writing down that I was impressed with Raei while Kramer was sidelined during the S8

And do you think Pat Shea's older Brother Brqndon has what it takes to turn his career back around in Windsor

Absolutely, he does. No doubt he was derailed a bit but a little bit of confidence can go a long way. Change of scenery should help.

What's your opinion on Pat Shea (Maine). I watched him at beantown an he's a very solid player who looks like he may haave been under the radar at Marshfield

I thought he was underrated a bit, too. Seemed to come on as of late. Should be a good player.

Will CM recover from their spell of blandness that's lasted a few years now?

I think so. They had MC on the ropes last year at Tsongas, if I remember correctly, before MC blew their doors off in the 2nd period. That game plays out differently and it would be a different season for them.

Top players at BC High?

Kramer's going to have a huge year for them. He's the one I think people will watch. There are a few '97s on that BC team that I think are good players.

You mentioned earlier Ryan Shea, Austin Goldstein, and JJ Layton were three of the top uncommitted players you've seen in MIAA, and thoughts on each individual players and colleges they might be headed to.

Those were just three guys I named, that I liked, and thought had D-I prospects. Haven't heard who any of them are talking to other than Shea, who I know has offers from UConn, Merrimack and BC, at least. Possibly more.

3rd times the charm for Springfield Cathedral, Mike. They are taking home the super 8 title this year over BC high or MC

It will be one of the familiar names, for sure.

Based on what you see from current D1/Potential D1 forwards, what seperates them from the DIII/ rest if the pack players (physical/mental/skills)?

A lot of times it's their skating. There are a lot of really good players who were great in juniors, and had great hands, but couldn't keep up. Skating is the most important attribute. Vision and hockey IQ certainly helps, but if you can skate, you have a good chance. Also, play away from the puck. Everyone always wants a 2-way player.

Odds Plevy comes back with tail between his legs after all the dust settles? Sounds like his options are not desirable now due to the penalty of leaving an NLI

10 percent? It's not 0%. We saw this same situation, for the most past, last year with NU and Szmatula, although that happened much earlier in the offseason. Around the beginning of July, I believe.

In your column you said teams some of them want to recruit until a letter of intent is signed why not just do that? get rid of verbal recruits/

Some teams have said they will recruit until the player signs a NLI, because that's ultimately the only rule on paper. If they wanted to do that across the board, then fine. But, I don't think it's going to stop verbal commitments. I still think you'll see kids "commit" to a school at 14, 15, or 16 and then it's just not official until they sign an NLI. ... The problem with recruiting to the NLI is that in most cases, the CHL is going to be involved long before a player can sign, which means if a player doesn't have a solid offer or doesn't think he's going to have a solid offer from an NCAA program, he might go to the CHL where there would already be an offer on the table.

Is the GOJHL in Canada a good league to get recruited for to play NCAA ? It's suppeed to be almost Jr. A level hockey but it's still a Jr. B league ? And is there a chance you can go D1 from that league ?

You can do D-I from anywhere. Literally. If you're good enough, teams will find you. They're going to Europe, everywhere.
By my count, there were three committed players going D-I in that league last year. But there were probably many more who played in that league but had already moved up to the OJHL, CCHL, USHL, etc. I don't have numbers, but I'm sure plenty of D-I recruits have gone through the GOJHL.

How long do you think it will take Princeton to rebuild

There's a lot of factors, both things that are in and out of control of the hockey people in charge. Ultimately it all comes down to recruiting. If they recruit well, it could be a quick turnaround.

You talked about Ryan Shea and his options for college. Where do you see the two other players in your top 3 uncommitted hs players?

Did I name a top-3? If I did, I honestly don't remember doing so. If you have names, I'll let you know if there is word on who he is talking to.

Where do you see Ryan Shea committing? I feel he has BC all over him

BC has offered. Others have too. I get the impression BC is preferred by the player, but that's just a guess.
