Will nu hockey ever finish a four seed or higher in the HE with the Current coaching staff

Sure. It won't happen overnight but I really like the recruiting class they bring in, especially Benning and ZAR along with Szmatula. Offensively they should be pretty good this season. Their biggest question mark in the short term is goaltending.

Will you be covering any Merrimack football games this fall?

I usually get at least one or two. Try to get to as many as I can. Merrimack has done a nice job in recent years with football gamedays. Parents/fans have a huge tailgate party in the parking lot. Those games have really become all-day events.

Not hockey, but Merrimack football should be good this year. Can't wait.

Agreed. Having Clancy back is a big help. Blogged on him a few weeks ago. Could set some (more) passing records this year.

Too many seniors left BU to make them a top HE threat?

I'm excited about who they return (especially O'Regan), but they did lose a lot, you're right. On top of that, they really surged in the playoffs last year. I thought, given their schedule down the stretch, they should have been a player for the league RS title and they faded. But that said, you never know what a breath of fresh air (Quinn) can do. A lot of times it tends to bring guys to life.

If Ouellette can replicate what he did last year, where do you see Maine ending up?

Between 5-8. Think they're in that tier with Merrimack, BU, UNH & them. I see BC, ND, UML, PC as top-4.

Do the high amount of seniors on UMass give them a better chance to succeed than what most people think?

Talked about them yesterday too. I think they're still rebuilding. Moving in the right direction but it takes time. They made a lot of roster changes p we the summer and have only been able to recruit their own guys for about a year. More in the MC mold than UML, IMO.

How will Dan holland do for Merrimack

He played well in the BCHL. Not sure what the role will be as a frosh

Not college, but how would you say Catholic Memorial does this year?

They're always in the conversation. It's gotten to the point where the entire Catholic Conference is a favorite to win Super 8. But CM should even be better than last year. They were very good last year, and young.

Which Hockey East team do you think is the biggest sleeper?

Northeastern, as long as they get good goaltending. I really like their incoming class. Roy returning helps, of course.

No ZAR in frosh list?

He's very, very good. Should be on there. Part of the problem working off the top of my head w/o rosters in front of me.

Most underrated incoming freshman in hockey east?

A few. Hampus Gustafsson and Jonathan Lashyn at MC. Brendan Collier at BU. Ryan Fitzgerald at BC.

who would finish in your top 5 hockey east player of the year votes? mine are gaudreau, tynan, roy, gillies, and hellebuyck (in no particular order)

In no particular order: Gaudreau, Gillies, Hellebuyck, Tynan and Matheson, who I think will have a huge year.

You are really pumping Demko's tires. You think he's that good to be a stud as a freshmen?

Jon Gillies and Connor Hellebuyck did alright as freshmen, didn't they? Demko is at least as good as those two goaltenders, from what I've seen. He'll immediately be an impact player at BC.

Where is Stephane Da Costa playingnext season? Heard he might go European?

He signed a 1-year extension with the Ottawa Senators last month. Two-way deal. Will be competing for probably 2 roster spots at forward.

What has happened to shawn loiseau the last two weeks?

You know, I'm not sure. He hasn't been cut, but perhaps he is hurt. I haven't seen a report and I'm not sure myself. I'll see if I can find out.

what returning players do you see emerging a top players in hockey east?

O'Regan for sure. Leaving out the obvious I think Scotti (MC) and Saracino (PC) I like. Filing will be regarded as one of the best D by March.

Can/Will the USPHL ever rival the USHL in terms of talent and NCAA Commitments?

Not any time soon. USHL way too established as the top dog.

Better chance of umass not coming in last or bu winning the beanpot

Mathematically, UMass not finishing last :)
