If that's the case, I prefer you should make a quick u-turn or get off as a survival mode for yourself. Risking a total sadness or worse, heartbreak can lead you to misery for a few weeks or even, months. Sometimes people value a friendship more than a romance that will probably not work out and then lose that friendship. If you truly value the friendship, accept that, keep your romantic options open - try to see what else is available - and maybe someday you will both be on the same page. :)
