i think it helps but you have to actually pass the test. if you dont, it doesnt matter if you're in varsity or not unless they have scouted you prior to taking the test. that's what i know

I dont do anything special in paticular. I just shampoo, condition once or twice a week then just let it dry naturally/towel dry then comb/brush it yay
