What are the pro's and con's of the company you work with to teach English? I am curious as I am headed to Japan soon.
Hi I'm sorry I didn't see this message until now! I actually just completed my contract with Interac at the end of this most recent school year. This is what I can think of off the top of my head but let me know if you have any more specific questions.
The pros:
-They find you an apartment and sort any of those issues out for you with the real estate company whenever you need it.
-They have someone help you register for a bank account, register within your city and get a phone. (Not every company will do this for you. I already know Altia does not.)
-Work related transportation is reimbursed.
-They were easy to reach.
-Salary was always on time.
-You can work an additional job. (JET doesn't allow you to)
-My trainers were awesome and always super helpful.
-They give you access to lots of lesson planning materials.
The cons:
-Salary is prorated during months with fewer work days but I think it's similar for many ALT companies. (but you can work another job so it's not the worst)
-It's a company so there will be a couple annoying procedural things like monthly transportation paperwork but... I think most companies will have these things.
