how will the multiplayer work? will it be like lan in minecraft were you just press a button in any world? or will you have to set up an independant server?

You can load any save in multiplayer mode and other can join or leave while you are playing it. No dedicated server is needed.

in the logistics menu i can get a small plane but in the research menu i cant find how to make a small planeplease help

There is no plane in the game, it is just custom item for one mission. We created mechanism to show some items like this to avoid confusion in the future.

How big of a milestone is 1.0 for you? Just buiseness as usual, as the game is already 'released' or something of epic dimensions indeed?

From the business point of view, we will mark it as 1.0 when we would consider the game to be ready for critics. There are so many things we would like to improve, that the 1.0 is probably going to be just one of the milestones :)

I really love the game but there is one thing that i have been constantly thinking about but do you have plans to add bridges/pathways to the game or does a mod already have that added? Because i would love to be able to build over the water for more area in my already cluttered world.

I'm really love the pathways/roads concept in the game, so it is quite probable we will make something like that for the vanilla game.

I'm sorry but there is no plane in the game :) There is just the item used specially as goal in the specific mission.

Is the game coming to Steam anytime soon?

Once the multiplayer is stable and the 0.12 release with endgame goal is there, we might consider to go for steam. But we might also consider, that there is more tweaking needed to be done when we get there :)

Clearly you've been working on multiplayer. Is there any desired timeframe us users can expect for at least Beta support for multiplayer?

The release date of the 0.11 is scheduled to 31. October 2014 (This month). But keep in mind that it will be the experimental release, so you can expect one to two months before it becomes stable release.

Why is it a diesel locomotive when it can run off coal, wood, and anything else that burns? Why not make it properly run off diesel and have a steam train that works like it does now, but also requiring water and unlocked earlier?

Hello, there are historical reasons for that, liquids weren't present when the machine was created. If we make something like "liquid inserter" we can change it.

I have tried to pay for this game 6 times and I've tried all options, any advice?

In these kind of situations, you should always send an email to factorio@factorio.com, we read it quite often usually.

Another thing is there a way i can prevent an Factorio instance from using data from %Appdata% (windows) because i have two intances of Factorio installed on my system. the stable and the expermental but i can open the stable without crashing because of the mods try to load

In your case, it would be best to use the zip package, that is configured to use just the local folder. For existing installations, it is possible to adjust the Factorio\config-path.cfg and instead of __PATH__system-write-data__/config as the config path, you can just put there config + use-system-read-write-data-directories set to false.

I would like to start modding but what programs do you recommend as a enviorment to code in. Because lately i have just been using note padto try to understand the code that goes into factorio And some of the mods

On windows, we use Notepad++ to edit these files, on linux you would probably use your own favorite all in one editor (vi/vim/emacs ..)

Your game is just epic!!! But I would wish you could do more with oil. Btw can you please add accumulators to trains?

Adding another possibilities with oil and other resources is possible, we are just afraid to complicate the game too much. I would try to look around for some mods that extends it, we have the modding possibility specially for this reason. If you are asking for electric trains, it is possibility to have it in the future, but we have lot of things with higher priority now.

PART2: is to transform the walls into better looked fortress wall when they have more than 2 layers of walls.

It is a nice idea, we will keep it in the pool of possible upgrades in the future, but as always no promises :)

We started game programming by doing Factorio :) Other than that, programming is our profession and we do it for living for a long time already.

Would there be paths above the machines? Some kind of a footbridge? :)

Probably not, but maybe there will be other ways to overcome the obstacles, but I can't be more specific as it would be understood as a promise :)

We love the game. We did it in a way specially optimised for us to have fun with it :)

They are mods that contain stronger walls already, but we definitely plan to add tier for walls or electrified walls, but first we want to make the basic parts like gates.

Right now there is only Solar and Coal power, do you have any plans for other sources like oil, nuclear, hydro, wind?

Yes, we have plans for some of these, but no promises, as there are lot of other things on our todo list.

I have a low end graphics card and I play this game 1080p. But when i put lights on, or when i zoom out the game laggs. Could you fix that? Because I think factorio does not require too much graphic power...

This issue was resolved in 0.10.2 version, the light is bit pixelated, but the slowdown should be gone.

your game is so addictive :D and i love you for it! i even got two copies one for me and my bud. thanks to sips for introducing me. where did you get this amazing idea from? and are we going to see air planes in the game?

We are happy about it, but sometimes we feel guilty, specially when people are telling stories of playing Factorio instead of study and preparation for important exams. The first idea for a game about automation came from the Buildcraft mod for Minecraft. I found it very enjoyable, but I wanted to have much bigger factories than the Minecraft engine allowed. I also wanted to go deeper and specialise mainly on the factory building. I also wanted to connect it with some kind of thread as partial motivation of the building (biters) and enviroment where players can compete somehow.

Will the system requirements go up when the game goes to beta or release? Will they have changed within 2 years?

The biggest problems we are struggling is the video memory amount requirements, we are planning a solution that would require less video memory. As we optimise the performance practically every major release, the CPU requirements should be lower for the factory of the same size.

underground conveyor belts dont seem to work more than 5 blocks or so. is this a temporary thing or is it always going to be like that?

It is part of the game mechanics and we don't plan to change it. There are 2 reasons for it, the first one is to make it visually clear where does the belt connect to, the second one is, that too long underground connections would make the transport belt system too easy to do with lot of different stuff.

will we be able to plant trees to cut back the pollution?

This way of changing the environment is something we like. Once we allow destroy forests with fire, we should allow to replant it as well :)

any chance your going to add roads in for cars that the player can build?

Yes, we have been debating this, so it is possible. We would mainly like to add walk paths for the player, so he can move around the factory more quickly.
