Hi Kai, I am a big fan of you, but I got a question today, and it may sound weird. So I saw your Antz mep part /old video, for MissDoonaQueen/ a couple of minutes ago and you surprised me... I don´t know if it was, since you know, art is relative, we see different stuff, but I thought it was a...

(cont). "pretty anti-religion video, and I don´t mind that it was, I am not religious myself, but I always thought you were a really open minded person and respected everything, since you edit with almost everything in the world, and this surprised me, again, not insulting or anithing. So, am I that wrong? I sound so bitchy, I don´t want to sound mean, I love your videos and you, you are a great person I love you!!!!"
Hey there! Don't worry you don't sound bitchy at all - just curious! :) I'm not insulted in the slightest! I'm really glad that I come across as an open minded person - this is seriously such a compliment that I can portray myself in such a way online!
As a bit of background, I have a huge respect for religion although I am not a religious individual myself. I was exposed to it growing up by my parents, so that I would have an understanding for it. I am very grateful that they did that - exposed me to church, took me to christmas mass, etc, but didn't force me to subscribe to a faith. They let me make that decision for myself. I have had both horrible experiences with organized religion, and incredibly touching ones. I've seen, what is in my opinion, religion done right, and religion done wrong. I have a huge amount of respect for people who believe so deeply in their faith - that's a very strong emotion/feeling and I respect this.
Personally my respect for religion hinges around whether or not it oppresses or invalidates anyone else in the process - my interpretation of religion is that it's a very personal thing, and everyone should be respected, whether they believe in a greater power or not. Although, if your religion/how you practice your religion is aggressive or hurtful to another person or group of people, then I simply have no respect for that.
With the Antz mep part, that was just an exploration into a different sort of thing - it was a bit of a creative collaboration with wanderluft, a dear friend of mine. We somehow escalated the theme of the part into something... very dark! XD It doesn't really portray any of my beliefs, or hers (she is "sorta" Christian - her words not mine XD). It was just a really interesting editing experiment into creating something around a particular theme. The footage itself is an interesting portrayal for this topic anyway, and really has a lot of layers to its construction through symbolism and content.
So basically it was just a creative experiment. I love how you applied "art is relative" to video editing, and this in particular - this is such an intelligent outlook, and seriously it's really nice to discuss video editing in such a way!! <3 So, I'm not sure if this really answers your question, but it wasn't necessarily supposed to be a message about anti-religion, or portraying my particular beliefs, just a sort of journey into a theme/topic. I hope this makes sense as an explanation, and answers your questions/concerns!

Hey there! Sorry for the late reply :) I used keyframing in FCP to animate the pictures :)

Hi! I was wondering if you could help me? :D I really admire your editing and how you think outside the box. So I have the theme of 'Female' for a video, and I'm not too sure how to approach it. I have a few ideas in mind but they seem to vague. I would really appreciate it if you could help me out

Hey there :)
I know what tourney you're in *winks and pats on back* your secret is safe with me ;)
Personally, I think you've got the easier side of the topic! You could focus on femme fatale as a whole, or pick a female character in specific and focus on her arc/character development! That's probably what I would do :) ALSO WATCH BLANK SPACE BY TSWIFT FOR INSPIRATION NO LIE THAT SHIT'S LIFE CHANGING

I just wanted to say something: I've always had this weird feeling that editors with a lot of subscribers are stuck up and arrogant sometimes (they rarely ever reply to comments or give advice) but you're such a sweetheart. It's nice to know that you take the time out of your day to help others! <33

OH gosh!! You know, I totally understand where that feeling in coming from, because I often experienced it when I was like a little newbie starting off in the community!! But.. it's funny... you just keep something as a hobby and all of a sudden you don't have the time to reply to every comment ; A ; I read absolutely everything though, every day, and it means a LOT that people comment.
I honestly wish I could be more involved in the community - writing comments on all the videos that I like and watch, subscribing to more people, hosting tournaments and appreciation events, etc... I used to be so much more involved, but alas high school is over now ; A ; I'm so happy I can actually be a co-mod on Viddertips to help editors, and I do my best to keep ontop of messages here and on my tumblr even though I am absolutely useless at keeping ontop of my youtube itself LOL.
It's really lovely to receive a message like this because I often feel that I probably get the reputation for being arrogant and stuck up because I did used to be so active in the community... but aah university and a social life is really keeping me busy these days - I'm in the second year of my degree and I'm really enjoying everything :') I try my absolute best to give back when I can <3
I want to apologize also for taking 3 days to reply to this - my semester actually just finished up so I've been getting my ass kicked with finishing up term papers and assignments OTL. But thank you so much for this seriously <3 Made my day!!

But yeah I try to answer everything I can!! <3

Kai-sama, You'll ... you'll do in the future a SasuSaku project? Just ...now this pairing is CANON ;D...and yr collab w/ Nav "Landfill" so awesome ;3 -feels-

Hi there! I'm really glad you like that video!! Unfortunately I doubt I will ever make another ss video... I'm actually weird about my ships and I dislike it when they turn canon... But also I haven't been very into naruto for over a year and a half now and I'm currently focusing on my life instead of my editing :) sorry!!

oh thanks ;D u is awesome editor.i cant wait yr new project * ^ *

Thank you so much <333333 IM REALLY GLAD YOU ENJOY MY VIDEOS. I'm not sure when my next project will be I'm super busy with uni and volunteering! But I'll do my best to work on something soon :D

how do you find the fanarts for your wonderful OSSOM video works? c;

Tumblr! Also sometimes zerochan. But most I just scroll the tumblr tags and then if I like something I check out (well I used to do this when I had time), check out the pixiv artists page to see more potentially awesome things.

On facebook is your name ONLY Kai and do you have brown short hair. And like of mice & men? Cause their is a girl who is Kai and from Canada and omg it got weird.

Haha not me! :'D But .... why were you looking for me on facebook?... LOL

(im the one that asked you abot the for editors hi) so thank you for the reply! By the way, let me thank you for helping so much people in here, your answers are soo long and full of help, I love you

No problem! I'm sorry for the late reply here (I was in Poland with no internet the last few days!) I'm always happy to help people :) I didn't have much support when I was starting out, so even though I can't edit as much as before I still really love to give back to the community through answering questions ^^

Hey Kai!! I admire your editting a lot, whenever I watch your videos it makes me hate myself because of how good you are! ;-; How did you find your style? And what do you use for your coloring?

Please don't say it makes you hate yourself... this really isn't a compliment at all... no editor strives to make others feels shitty about themselves. We're all just doing this for fun.
I just found my style by editing and trying to be different from everyone else and coming up with my own original ideas - it's not something you develop overnight, you create a style over many months and countless videos ^^
For colouring I just use plugins I downloaded for fcp sorry!

*part1* Hello. Do you know the following editors? XxKeyBladeSlayerxX,TheMusicTouch,TitoGoesMad, DiamantTiger? Those four along with you are making me want to start editing, and you are the only one I found courage to talk to! So, would you say editing is worth a try? And are those editors friendly?

[*part2* Cause they reeeeally scare me, like starting to talking to them freaks me out! And do you know what editing software they use? .sorry for the questions omg I love you so so so so so so much, your editing is flawless you are a godess. Sorry for my english, I know almost no English :O]
>> Where do I even begin with this! OMG! XxKeyBladeSlayerxX and TheMusicTouch I don't know personally, but they are SO incredibly talented and I've been following them for many years now and they seem like absolute sweethearts! TitoGoesMad is an absolute dear - he's such a funny/adorkable dude - totally approachable he would love to get a message like this I'm 100% sure! Vee (DiamantTiger) is also a total gem - she's so precious and her editing is so deliciously unique! She's /very/ approachable :D I would not be scared of them <3 They're all dears and totally human - they would adore a message like this! <3 They all use Sony Vegas as their program I believe! (I use FCP X the Mac equivalent)
I'm so happy you found the courage to talk to me omg! I'm so honoured (most people are scared to approach me! ;-;) You should DEFINITELY (!!!) start editing!!! Don't worry about not being good or something - everyone starts out not knowing anything we're all self taught and we all stumbled around with our programs for ages before we grew to be more comfortable with them! I think it's a totally amazing idea that you want to start editing, it's something I do not regret at all - it's an obscure hobby, incredibly fun, and useful in many ways. It comes in handy for school projects, randomly impressing people, and gives you a sense of design and typography which are actually surprisingly uncommon! If you ever edit anything, I would love to see! Please feel encouraged to show me :3 It would be the greatest honour that I inspired someone to start editing! <3 <3
Thank you so much for this message! <3 <3 I wish you the absolute best if you decide to try editing out!

Hiiiii :) Do you have any advice for text/typography? How to make it smooth and blend in with the background/footage? Also, what are your favorite font's for dark/twisted MMVs?

Hmm, honestly the best advice I have for typography is that it's damn hard and the only way to get better is to practice. (Trust me, I had shittyass typography for years). Just keep experimenting and trying new things that you think look nice, and eventually your aesthetic taste will develop and naturally refine itself. Just always keep trying your best to pick the best fonts and placement you can find :D
You can also learn some typography/design theory and browse around in what other people have created to refine your personal taste! Some useful resources include:
http://swifth.tumblr.com/post/77404924828/typography-masterpost-by-swifth-1
http://hydrazoite.tumblr.com/post/86574781587/betype-the-10-commandments-of-typography
http://gryfflndor.tumblr.com/post/67263587018/im-currently-obsessed-with-typography-so-i
In terms of "smooth" and "blend in with the bg footage" that is really up to your scenes, every scene is going to be constructed differently with different colour schemes and design patterns so there are no real ground rules for this. If you are wanting to put your white text to transparent though, you just have to change the composition setting to overlay or anything similar :)
Favourite fonts for dark/twisted meps... hmm... this is really hard to say because I never go into a video thinking "I'm going to use this font" I fit the fonts to what I have created, which sometimes involves a lot of browsing through fonts, downloading new ones, trying ones I already have, trying everything until I get something I am pleased with that fits the mood of the song! It's really just trial and error and sometimes the right typography can take hours to obtain! (Srsly it can be so hard OTL)
These are my two favourite sites for downloading fonts:
http://www.dafont.com/
http://www.fontsquirrel.com/
Hopefully this helps a little bit ; A ;

How long do you spend editing in one sitting for your MMVs? And how long does it take to edit the entire project?

Depends how much time I have! Normally I get pretty sucked into projects (I only allow myself to edit when I have the time to get sucked into them as a result) so I can easily sit for 6-10 hours editing, although that is inspiration permitting. To edit an entire project really depends, they can a few days to weeks depending how complex the scenes are, how much inspiration I have, and how much time I get to work on it. It really just depends - something like Scratches took 2-3 weeks of hardcore work every day when I had the chance to take a break from uni work, but something like my Sinners MEP parts took a few days tops. I used to edit every project I had in 1 day but that was maybe 3 years ago... I no longer am able to pull off such stunts LOL

Hey Kai!! What's your advice for someone starting out in MMV?

Honestly, the best advice is just to practice. MMVing is really quite hard, especially when you're starting out, and it can take a while to train your brain to think in those sorts of ideas. Just start small and simple with your scenes, don't try to create hugely complicated scenes before you're confident. If you're woking on moving manga/fanart, take this slow too, focus on moving one part at a time - complicated animations fuck with your head often, so it's good to start out simple. For example, when I started I only moved a head, or an arm and that was it. Once I got more confident I began to move multiple parts. Another helpful tip is always have movement in all aspects of your scene (doesn't have to be moving pictures). I'm just talking keyframing to the right/left/in/out, etc. Try your best to make the scene look natural though, not all keyframing ends up looking smooth. Don't be afraid to redo scenes if you're unhappy with something either! I hope this helps :'D

Hey I just want to know what plugins you use for FCPX? This is Bman54950 btw if you remember me you should check out my new vids i've gone away from rap ^_^

bman54950’s Profile Photobrandon houston
AHhh... I have literally downloaded dozens and dozens of plugins :'D I'll check out your vids if I have time, but I'm currently en route to the EU for a holiday, so I definitely won't have time for a while ^^

Hoiii!~ :') I just wanted to ask you, how do you make your manga/fanart animations so smooth? I know you don't use Sony Vegas, but any general tips would really help, ahaha X'D

Basically just a lot of practice and consistent re-doing XDDD I don't let an animation stay if it seems off to me - I have to completely redo it to get it just right. Generally movements that are too fast look super unnatural, and movements that are too slow defeat the purpose, so it's all about timing. Sometimes I have to re-do the animation on an image so many times that I am cursing myself for even trying to animate it. Layering a few simple animations gives it a more natural look too, instead of trying to animate everything, just picking a natural focus for what is moving, ie an arm and the head, or smth similar (depends on the image). It's super hard animating images tbh it just takes a lot of practice. I sucked for a long time 8)

I know it isn't your part, but I wanted to ask you cause your advices and what you tell us is really clear and I can learn easily. Do you happen to know how to do that? I'm talking about the black lines on the face :D

Ahh of course I can help ^^ Well, I know that she used a brush pack that featured scribbles in Photoshop. I don't know what the name of the pack is, or where one could download it though :c I'm sure with some google searching though you could find a similar thing :) You could also recreate the effect by dropping the image you want scribbled over into photoshop, creating a new layer, scribbling around on it in black, and then just saving the scribbles only. (Do this two to three times so you can switch quickly between the different scribbles to intensify the effect :P)

I love your editting!! Please share with us some of your tricks?

Well, there are many aspects to video editing! Honestly, the best general advice I can give is to keep practicing, keep working hard on your editing, and your improvement. Pick one thing in each edit to focus more on, to improve on, or learn from scratch. If an effect or scene doesn't turn out right the first time, try it again until you can get it better, or don't be afraid to try something else in its stead. Making mistakes is part of learning ^^ I have made /plenty/. I would be happy to chat about various things you would be interested in learning though, if you have specific effects or questions about editing, or my videos - I would be happy to answer such questions on either my tumblr (hydrazoite) or the VidderTips(.tumblr.com) tumblr where I am in charge of all of the FCP questions (or any question tbh if you ask for me I'll be the one to answer even if it's not specifically fcp LOL) :) Either way I will get back to you as soon as I can, if you are interested in messaging me there :)
