I work overnights + officiate five different sports throughout the year. But when I'm home, I don't wanna do NOTHIN. Just leave me be with my bed and my computer.

My own. Well, that and China's. It's awesome.
If you had to evacuate your house immediately, what is the one thing you would grab on the way out?
My tablet. My card would probably be in my car already and my phone would be on me. I can get by without everything else.
If you could visit the past or the future, which would you choose and where would you go?
There's so many places. I'd want to be in Constitutional Hall in 1776. Part of the Underground Railroad in the 1850s. I'd want to be in Hyde County, NC during the Civil War when the Union Army came through there to capture gangs and bandits, and freed slaves along the way. There's plenty of places.
Do you think NCAA football and basketball players should be paid? Why or Why not?
No. If no other reason than it's not possibly feasible. You're not going to pay football and men's basketball players and not pay women players. You're not going to pay those guys and not pay swimmers, gymnasts, track and field, amateur wrestlers, baseball players softball players, fencers, and the countless other student athletes in every other sport in every department in every school.
As soon as the decree is made to pay football and basketball players, you'll have a slew of two-bit Title IX lawyers heading up to the courthouses to file lawsuits by sundown. A number of these schools would rather kill off their athletic departments altogether than have to deal with that mess. I believe as soon as you pay those players any kind of significant money (and remember; full rides can already receive a stipend per semester), the clock starts ticking as far as the cancellation of seasons and sports programs.
It's not gonna happen.

Do you see pro sports in the US having a major shake-up in the next 10 years with one of the major sports(NFL, Baseball, Basketball) falling rapidly in popularity?
Very possible, for several reasons.
- Legal challenges stemming from concussion injuries result in the NFL taking a more extreme approach in changing the rules and how the officials enforce rules. Football may be a completely different game in 10 years; hell it's already changing at the high school and college level. Right now, the NFL is the juggernaut that's bringing in ridiculous amounts of advertising and merchandise revenue. But what's going to happen to the NFL in the upcoming generation, as fundamental rules are being changed at the lower levels and those kids start moving into the league?
- Refer to a question I answered yesterday about ESPN and the bubble of sports programming. There could be a much bigger bubble on the horizon for these sports leagues, but soon satellite and cable providers are not going to continue paying high subscriber fees for these networks. As with all bubbles, they must burst sometime.
- Legal challenges to the NCAA, whereas we may see the NCAA broken up and colleges get out of athletics altogether because it's not cost-effective anymore. That may not happen in 10 years, but 20 or so? Very possible. There will continue to be challenges in regards to amateurism and student athletes getting paid as well as collusion of major athletic schools whom might break away from the NCAA and make their own leagues with their own championship. That's not out of the realm of possiblity, as a number of schools could be tired of the conference realignments. It would only take a big time athletic director of a major school (Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, etc) to start talking and it may set the wheels in motion.

*scratches head* to be honest, I have no clue. But I hope they're good tho? I'm thinking about going to the Miami game at Chapel Hill and taking that night off from work and JV football. But something tells me they're gonna get whupped up on by South Carolina.

How successful do you think Fox Sports 1 will be?
It'll take a few years. But they're going to give ESPN fits for college football, basketball, and the NBA now has newfound leverage. They'll never surpass ESPN but stay mentionable.
As a bonus, I think the haggle between ESPN, NBC, Fox, and CBS will be what leads to the bust of sports broadcasting. Right now we're in the boom period, but it seems like they're willing to overpay these college comferences and leagues for live broadcasts. That can only go on so long, and ESPN can only charge so much to the cable and satellite companies before they start fighting back, as we're seeing already with Time Warner Cable waging war against Viacom this week.
